HALLIGAN HOLDS OFF McCLELLAND FOR FIRST CAREER TRAIL-WAY SPRINT WIN;
Rutherford edges Gower in 270 micros; Furman, Rohrbaugh add to all-time win totals

HANOVER, PA (6/26/2015) – For the third straight week, Trail-Way Speedway saw a first-time winner in the 25-lap “358” sprint car feature Friday night.

Ephrata’s Jeff Halligan started on the pole and led every lap of the main event, but worked hard over the final seven laps to hold off hard-charger Brad McClelland.  Trail-Way’s all-time winner, who started 17^th after losing his steering in his qualifying event, drove under Seth Kearchner for the runner-up spot on lap 18. 

“I saw Brad get to second and that’s when I started counting laps,” said the happy winner after climbing from the Halligan’s Auto Repair #45H in victory lane, “He makes passing cars look easy.”

“This is the toughest place to race,” added Halligan, who crossed just 25-hundreths of-a-second in front of McClelland, “But it teaches you how to race.”

Though he already has two Saturday night wins at Lincoln Speedway in 2015, this was Halligan’s first-ever victory at Trail-Way, and it followed first-time wins by David Holbrook and Cody Fletcher in the past two races.

Third through fifth were Kearchner, Dwight Leppo, and Mike Bittinger.

Qualifiers for the 18 sprint cars were won by Hallligan, Kearchner, and Leppo.

Mike Rutherford claimed the 20-lap Mason-Dixon 270cc micro-sprint feature event.  He started third, chased polesitter Joe Long, Jr. for 14 laps, and then caught Long to grab the race lead following a 14^th lap restart.  It was Rutherford’s second win of the year and the ninth of his Trail-Way career.

Second through fifth were Nik Gower (who came from the 19^th and final starting spot), Cory Myers, Bill Laughman, and 12^th-starting Steve Cox.

Heats for the micros were won by Mike Boer and Rutherford.

Dan Furman raced to his 20^th career Trail-Way win in the 20-lap street stock feature.  Furman started fourth and raced back and forth with Mike Goodwin for the lead over the middle stages of the race.  Furman was actually scored the leader of lap six, but Goodwin reclaimed the lead until Furman got it for good on lap 18.

Goodwin settled for second .75 seconds behind, with Cory Weishaar, Travis Leh, and Kyle Emig completing the top five.

Heats for the 13 street stocks were won by Jed Latchaw and Craig Wagaman.

All-time winner Kyle Rohrbaugh scored his 29^th career win in the 15-lap limited stock feature.  Rohrbaugh started 11^th and methodically worked his way through the field to take the lead from Michael Kolodiej, Jr. on lap six.  Kolodiej dropped from the field three laps later.

Despite leading the rest of the way, Rohrbaugh received pressure from seventh-starting Sarah Redmond over the final laps, and he crossed 1.16 seconds in front at the end.  Third through fifth were Jeff Foster, Shane Miller, and Kenny Startzman.

Heats for the 17 limited stocks were won by Rohrbaugh and Robert Nicklow.

Trail-Way swings back into action Friday, July 3^rd, with the 358 Sprints, Limited Stocks, Street Stocks, Mason Dixon 270cc Micro Sprints and the Vintage Cars. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., with heats beginning at 7:45 p.m.

Friday, July 10^th the Precise Racing Limited Late Models return to TW along with the Limited Stocks, Street Stocks and Central PA Legends. It will also be A.R.C.H. (Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown) Night at Trail-Way. All card-holding members will receive $2 off admission.  Gates for that show also open at 5:30, with racing to begin at 7:45 p.m.
