Brent Marks Wins 48th Annual Port Royal All Star Tuscarora 50 Myerstown Driver Pockets Over $21,000 In Three Oval Wins In Six Days

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

9/13/15
Port Royal – Brent Marks closed a storied chapter in Port Royal Speedway history by claiming the 48th annual Tuscarora 50 for sprint cars sponsored by Ramsey’s Car Washes and Packer’s Concessions on Sunday night, besting the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions field for a payday worth $12,625 including lap money.

For Marks, the win was his third in six days at the historic oval after taking the September 7 Labor Day Classic and in the Night Before The 50 feature event run on Friday.
Marks took home a total of more than $21,000 for his trio of wins and in doing so he became the first driver in history to sweep the three events at the oval since the format began in 1998.
“Oh man, this is awesome” said Brent Marks, “This is a race I’ve wanted to win and this is a race I said we could win.”
“We’ve went so long without a win this year and now to pull off three in a row is just unbelievable. I just hope I wake up tomorrow and it wasn’t a dream. This has been an awesome, awesome week for us. We’ve been working so hard and this car has been working so good. It was an amazing night.”

The first 25 laps of the 50-lap Tuscarora were electrifying with multiple lead changes and action throughout.
The initial start of the talent-laden field went red when pre-race favorite and fifth starter Greg Hodnett spun his car as he sat it into the first corner, collecting Ryan Smith and Curt Stroup.
The restart of action saw polesitter Ryan Taylor led the first lap before second starter Doug Esh rocketed by for control.
Just after Esh was scored the leader, All Star point runner-up Cody Darrah swiped the outside turn three fence, saving the car but slowing the action.
Danny Dietrich, Mike Wagner and Steve Buckwalter followed Esh and Taylor for the restart.
Dietrich went to work when action again got underway, taking second from Taylor on the fifth lap before setting sail after Esh.
Esh had near disaster on the seventh tour when he burst into the third corner to find a crashed Dylan Cisney into the outside rail.

Esh looped his car in front of the field but kept going as the yellow came out, which stopped the action for refueling with Dietrich, Wagner , Taylor and Buckwalter in tow.
However the restart would prove to be more disastrous for Esh.
Dietrich pounced when the green reappeared, diving by Esh before coming back to the line as the leader with eight away.
But then as the pair raced onto the backchute with Dietrich low and Esh on top, Esh took a high run off of the second corner to try and reclaim control.
As the pair reached the scoreboard, they touched with Dietrich at first turning into Esh, toward the outside rail before straightening but then Esh turned toward the inside rail as he tried to correct and made hard contact with the inside barrier after losing control and coming across the track as Dietrich skated by.
However while under caution, Dietrich came up with a right rear flat thanks to the hard contact with Esh, and this remanded the lead to Mike Wagner.
But Wagner would never be able to be scored the leader under green flag conditions because when action restarted, 14th starter Sheldon Haudenschild drove from his third restarting position around the outside of Ryan Taylor in the second corner before threading the needle on the backchute to blast under Wagner for control and the lead back to the ninth lap.

Once at the front, Haudenschild went to work blasting through the field from behind, working into the backmarkers while 13th starter Brent Marks drove up to second with 12 away.
Haudenschild had a 1.015 second lead over Marks when the mandatory lap 25 stoppage for refueling took place.
Haudenschild had Marks, Dale Blaney, 22nd starter Greg Wilson and Wagner following for the start of the second 25 laps segment.
But to everyone’s surprise when action got underway, Haudenschild took the middle line into the first corner, leaving his customary top lane wide open and Marks used that line to rocket into the lead as the pair raced out of the second turn.
And once at the front, Marks simply turned on the afterburners to drive off from the field for the rest of the nonstop distance.
Only for a few moments in traffic when Marks got bottled up behind cars running two by two was Haudenschild able to close back up.
But just as quickly as Haudenschild would narrow the margin, Marks would break free and again drive off with the lead.
At the finish, Marks won by 1.097 seconds for the prestigious laurels after scoring $625 in lap money.
Haudenschild was second, tallying $5,000 for second plus another $425 in lap cash.
“We got up front pretty quick there and we had a really good car” said Sheldon Haudenschild after finishing second.

We put a lot of hard work into this deal and to not get the win after leading is a bummer. Congrats to Brent Marks...definitely happy for those guys. He did a great job. I kinda’ messed up on that restart, but we won’t let that happen again.”
Dale Blaney finished a stout third followed by a masterful run by former All Stars titlist Greg Wilson.
And after restarting at the rear on the ninth lap, Danny Dietrich crossed the finish line fifth, perhaps offering proof that he could have taken the win had it not been for the contact and flat tire.
Sixth through 10th went to Wagner, Stevie Smith, Taylor, Blane Heimbach and Steve Buckwalter.
Fast time over the 41-car field went to Greg Hodnett with a time of 18.138 seconds.

Heats went to Esh, Rodney Westhafer, Wagner and Lance Dewease.

Twin B Mains went to Todd Shaffer and Greg Wilson.

Middleburg’s Andrew Yoder led all 22 laps of the econo late model main to best Eric Irvin in the event and in the quest for the track title.

Yoder took a five point leader over Irvin with a run on Labor Day and then stayed ahead of Irvin on Sunday night to take the victory and the track title.

Tim Fedder was third followed by Shaun Miller and Harold Ranck.

Heats went to Fedder and Yoder.  Fast time was set by Yoder with a lap of 22.009.
