FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mechanicsburg –
Aaron Ott of East Berlin won the 33rd annual Jack Gunn Memorial for
410 sprint cars at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, taking the $6,000
victory in an attrition filled event that saw only 10 cars finish the race.
Tyler Reeser scored his second Williams Grove win of the
season in the 305 sprint main, scoring a sweep of the oval’s 305 action this
season.
The initial start of the 30-lap Gunn Memorial was red flagged
when Stevie Smith got turned over on the frontchute after contact with a slowed
Doug Esh who nearly lost control of his car on the high cushion.
Another yellow then unfurled before a lap could be completed
for a turn three connection between Jordan Givler and Wayne Dadetto.
The red flag again appeared with three laps recorded as Ott
held sway over Greg Hodnett and Brian Montieth, this time for a turn two flip by
Brock Zearfoss after Danny Dietrich got into him while attempting to pull a
slide job for position.
And then the restart went red again when Greg Hodnett nearly
vaulted his car out over Montieth’s in the fourth corner after Montieth blasted
deep into turn three trying to steal second away from Hodnett.
Hodnett hung tough on the outside as the pair hit turn three
and Montieth couldn’t hold the car and went up in front of Hodnett with Hodnett
hopping his right rear tire and somehow saving the car whiel Montieth went on to
turn over but not before also collecting Pat Cannon and also Doug Esh.
Lance Dewease assumed second for the restart and took a look
low for the lead when action resumed but Ott was fleet on the cushion and pulled
away once the race finally got going under green flag conditions.
By lap 10, Ott had put 3.3 seconds between himself and Dewease.
The yellow unfurled for a stopped Danny
Dietrich on the 19th tour and then the red flag again appeared with
six laps to go, this time for last week’s winner Austin Hogue who had flames
erupt into the cockpit while running eighth in the field.
Ott then went on to win the lengthy event by 2.917 seconds
ahead of Dewease, Lucas Wolfe, a bullish Esh and Brent Marks.
Sixth through 10th went to
Cory Haas, Chase Dietz, Rodney Westhafer, Glenndon Forsythe and Troy Fraker.
Two rounds of heats for the 410 sprints went to Dietz, Hogue
and Haas in the first round with Dewease, Dietz and Hogue taking the second.
Ott set fast time in qualifications with a lap of 16.864
seconds while he also won the dash to earn the pole for the feature event.
The 305 sprint main was also caution riddled with no less than
four yellow flags slowing the action.
Darren Miller led the first two laps before Tyler Reeser took
over on a restart to score the win.
After starting 14th in the
20-lap main, New York’s Mike Kiser was up to second and ready to challenge for
the lead when he suddenly lost power, with five laps to go, causing the final of
the four caution periods.
Scott Ellerman finished second followed by Stephanie Dodson,
Nate Gramley and Colby Dice.
Heats went to Miller, Alex Schanz and Cale Reigle.
