HAMMAKER WINS INSINGER PERFORMANCE FUELS SPRING CHAMPIONSHIP THRILLER; BRIAN MARRIOTT TAKES MASON-DIXON 270CC MICRO-SPRINT WIN; McMULLEN BEST OF STREET STOCKS; CHRONISTER WINS LIMITED STOCKS IN LAST-TURN PASS

HANOVER, PA (5/20/2016) – “This is the hardest place to race in Pennsylvania.  Anyone who doesn’t believe it can come down here.”

So said Doug Hammaker after making it look easy in scoring his second win of the season in the Insinger Performance Fuels Sprint Championship for “358” sprint cars at Trail-Way Speedway Friday night.

A redraw by the top 12 drivers placed Hammaker fifth for the start.  Hammaker methodically worked his way through the top five as Cody Fletcher was leading the first 23 laps from the pole. Hammaker caught Seth Kearchner for second on lap 17 and drove around Fletcher for the race lead in turn two of a 24th-lap restart.

Fletcher and Seth Kearchner got together on the final turn as the checkered was waving, leading to a mad scramble over the final quarter-lap which didn’t matter, because scoring reverted to the last completed lap for everyone but the winner.

Ninth-starting Mike Bittinger was credited with second, followed by Jeff Halligan, David Holbrook, and hard charger Kevin Nouse (who started 18th).

“I know the World of Outlaws are in town, but we have better racing and I want to thank the fans for coming out,” said Hammaker, “We’re just having fun right now.”

Qualifiers for the 22 “358” sprinters were won by Isaac Sneeringer, Fletcher, and Kearchner.

Brian Marriott assumed the race lead when Cory Myers ran out of fuel entering turn three of lap 17 and drove to the.91-seond win in the 20-lap Maxon-Dixon 270cc micro-sprint feature sponsored by Lucas Oil.

It was Marriott’s first Trail-Way win of the year and the fourth of his TW career.

Steven Cox, Joe Long, Jr., Levi Peck; and Zachary Glass completed the top five.

Polesitter Bill Laughman led the first 14 laps before pulling to the infield two laps later after handing the lead to Cory Myers.  Laughman’s mechanical issues were caused by a hole in the radiator.

Heats for the 27 micros were won by Nik Gower, Steven Cox, and Brent Bull, with Levi Peck taking the consolation event.

Marshall McMullen held off Zach Myers for his first career win in the 20-lap street stock feature.  The former three-time TW thundercar winner started on the pole but yielded the lead to Jeremy Stremmel for the first 16 laps.  The two switched the lead several times over the final four laps, with McMullen scored the leader each time around.  Zach Myers caught Stremmel for second in the last turns, with  Stremmel, Matt Wampler, and Michael Smith rounding out the top five.

Dan Furman, Myers, and Wampler won qualifying events.
Furman was uninjured in a last-lap crash of the feature event and credited with an 11th-place finish.

Matt Chronister slid under Justin Wagaman in the final turns to score his second win of the year in the 15-lap limited stock feature.  It was Chronister’s 34th career TW win, and the final margin of victory ws just .15 seconds.  Shane Miller, Jason Chronister, and Chad Weaver crossed third through fifth.

Jason Chronister and Julio Perez were heat winners for the 17 limited stocks on hand.
