YORK HAVEN, PA 5/28/16
In what was billed as by far the best race of the season, Newville’s Tony Jackson scored his first career Susquehanna Speedway win in Saturday night’s Bud Bricker Nationals.
Jackson took the win in the 30-lap Credit Connection Auto Sales Super Sportsman feature after taking the lead on lap 19 and then holding on following a last lap restart.
New one lap track record holder and dash winner Scott Dellinger started on the pole and led the first three laps before giving way to fellow front row starter Scott Geesey.
Geesey held the point until lap 18 when third-starting Jackson drove his Clair Finkenbinder owned, McCoy Brothers General Contractors, Alvin Beam Painting, Liberator Performance #17J into the lead with 19 laps complete.
Jackson was headed to victory when a final lap caution for a stopped Timmie Barrick set up a one lap shootout. He then had to fend off eighth starting Kevin Nouse before earning the $2,000 payday. Jackson became the fifth different winner in six events this season.
Dellinger settled for the third spot ahead of Geesey and Chad Criswell with Mike Enders, Kenny Edkin, Rich Eichelberger, Doug Dodson and Paul Miller completing the top 10 finishers.
Dellinger set a new one lap track record in time trials with a lap of 17.086 seconds. He also won the Dash.
Heats for the 30 Super Sportsman were won by Dellinger, Geesey and Russ Mitten, who was running third on the final lap of the feature before suffering a flat tire. The consolation went to Gregg Foster.
Alex Bright earned the Hard Charger Award, coming from his ninth starting spot to win the 20-lap ARDC Midget feature. It was Bright’s first win of the year at Susquehanna.
Bright inherited the lead on lap nine after race leader Ryan Greth blew up while leading the event.
Bright took the win over Jim Radney, Brent Arndt, 11th starting Danny Stratton and Justin Grosz.
Trevor Kobylarz and Greth were heat winners for the 17 ARDC Midgets.
Jason Townsend came from his sixth starting spot to take the lead on lap four of the 20-lap Street Stock feature and never looked back in becoming the first repeat winner in the division this season.
Townsend held on through four cautions to score the win over Jim Palm, Hard Charger Randy Zech man (up from 12th), Bob Scott, Jr. and Chris Derr.
Thirty-seven street stocks signed in for action with heat race wins going to Sean Todd, Chad Stine, Jimmy Combs and Chris Heller. The consolation was won by Eric Tripp.
The night’s events were run in honor of Bud Bricker, the man who built Susquehanna Speedway back in 1954.
Susquehanna Speedway returns to action on June 4th on Tyson Fence Night as the Credit Connection Auto Sales Super Sportsman joined by the Xtreme Stocks, Road Warriors and PENMAR Cars. It will also be the Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown (ARCH) Night at the speedway. .Pits open at 4PM with grandstands opening at 5PM and racing beginning at 7PM.
