RAIN POSTPONES CHAMPION RACING OIL SUMMER NATIONALS FEATURE TO NATIONAL OPEN WEEKEND AT WILLIAMS GROVE SPEEDWAY

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – All qualifying events were complete Saturday night when rain hit Williams Grove Speedway during the Champion Racing Oil Summer Nationals.

After waiting for 30 minutes, and with rain still falling, Williams Grove and World of Outlaws officials decided to postpone the 30-lap, $20,000 to win Sprint car feature to the opening night of the National Open, which is Thursday night September 28.

Five-time and defending Williams Grove track champion Greg Hodnett was scheduled to start on the pole with third place Outlaws point man David  Gravel to his outside. The Posse and Outlaws also shared row two with Danny Dietrich starting third and Brad Sweet fourth. Logan Schuchart, Daryn Pittman, Jason Sides, Lucas Wolfe, Outlaws point leader Donny Schatz and Shane Stewart completed the top 10 in the starting line-up. Lance Dewease and Brian Montieth were scheduled to start 11th and 12th.

The 38-car field was split into two groups for qualifying time trials. Hodnett set quick time over the first group with a lap of 17.186. Wolfe, Sides, Dietrich and Matt Campbell followed Hodnett. Schuchart set quick time over the second group with a lap of 17.314. Pittman, Gravel, Sweet and Trey Starks followed Schuchart.

Hodnett, Dietrich, Gravel and Sweet won the eight-lap heat races. Hodnett drew the zero pill for dash inversion and won the six-lap race over Gravel and Dietrich.  Anthony Macri beat Steve Buckwalter to win the Last Chance Showdown
