TYLER ROSS, GARRETT BARD, CHRIS TRANSEAU, & BRIAN WALLS RACE WINNERS,

STEVE OWINGS, BRAD WEBER, & BRIAN WALLS TRACK CHAMPS AT TRAIL-WAY

HANOVER, PA (9/8/2017) – Lincoln University’s Tyler Ross showed them how it’s done at Trail-Way Speedway Friday night.

Ross stepped away from the 410 sprint division to pilot the Dick Smith-owned, Tom Rumsey Incorporated #41B to the win in his first Trail-Way appearance of the year.

Hard charger Steve Owings, who started ninth, finished second and claimed his first “358” sprint car track title in the process.

“Steve was definitely better than me,” said Ross after scoring his first Trail-Way win, “Steve got by me square and fair but the caution saved me.  This is the same right rear tire that Jeff Halligan won with last week, and it’s pretty well worn out.”

Owings actually slid under Ross for the race lead in turns one and two of the final lap, but the caution came out for Andrew Frye, who came to a stop after striking the wall just in front of the leaders.  That gave the lead back to Ross for the restart, and he held off Owings by two car lengths at the end.

“I tried, but yellow flag kept coming out,” said Owings when interviewed about his track title, “We were counting cars for a while until they got down to 14.  We didn’t win the fight, but we won the war.  We’ve been racing here a long time…back to motorcycles and micro-sprints…and I’m honored to be track champ.  This is a great track, and it’s fun to race here.”

Third through fifth were Dwight Leppo, Mike Bittinger, and 12th-starting Isaac Sneeringer, who began the night with a shot at the track title.

Qualifiers for the 20 “358” sprinters were won by Bittinger, Owings, and Leppo.

Garrett Bard made a last-lap pass over Zane Rudisill in turns one and two following a restart to claim the win in the 20-lap 600cc micro-sprint feature.  Jim Young also got by Rudisill in the final turns to finish second, with Rudisill settling for third, Kameron Morral fourth, and 12th-starting Bradley Weber fifth.  Weber was the event’s hard charger and also earned the 2017 track title.

Heats for the 15 micros were won by Young and Hannah Riser, who was uninjured in a 19th-lap flip in the feature.

Chris Transeau picked up his third win of the year in the 20-lap Central PA Legends feature, holding off Australian Hayden Pascoe, with Travis Mc Clelland, Chandler Pagnotta, and 11th-starting Rick Hartwig rounding out the top five.

Heats for the 16 Legends were won by Trent Yoder and Scott Smith, who was unable to start the feature.

Brian Walls ended the night as the race winner, hard charger, and track champ in the street stock division.  Walls started eighth in the eight-car field and had the lead by the end of the third lap.  He led the rest of the way, with Travis Leh, Jeremy Stremmel, Gene Miller, and Kenny Startzman completing the top five.

Walls also won the lone qualifier for the eight street stocks on hand.
