Ryan Taylor Scores Career Second In Williams Grove Sprints Jeff Halligan opens 358 season with victory

3/30/18
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mechanicsburg – Ryan Taylor dominated the 25-lap sprint car feature at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night to record his second career oval victory in 410 sprint car action.

The win was worth $3,600 for the Perkasie driver.

In the season debut of the 358 sprint car divison at the track, Jeff Halligan outran Kevin Nouse for the win.

The initial start of the 410 sprint car main was red flagged for a first turn flip by Brian Montieth, who had started fifth in the field.

Max McGhee clobbered Montieth after flipping however both drivers escaped injury.

Only the first lap of the main was completed before the first of four yellow flags unfurled on the field, this one for a slowing Greg Hodnett and Tyler Esh and Freddie Rahmer who withdrew from the race.

Taylor led Mark Smith for the restart as Lance Dewease got by Anthony Macri for third and set his sights on Smith.

The pair raced close for the second spot with Dewease moving to Smith’s inside on more than one occasion before the duo made contact with six away, finding Dewease spinning in the fourth turn while Smith continued on.

The restart saw fourth place runner Lucas Wolfe stop on the track.

The final caution flag of the race appeared with 12 laps down when Caleb Helms spun in the third turn and then Taylor’s pace went unhalted to the finish.

Smith was never able to mount a challenge for the win over the balance of the event, instead finishing 2.058 seconds behind at the finish.

Taylor noted that he knew he had a car that was good enough to win when on the initial start he set the car into the first turn, “and it stuck like glue.”

TJ Stutts rode home third followed by Macri and Trey Starks.

Sixth through 10th went to 16th starter Kasey Kahne, Parker Price Miller, Steve Buckwalter, Hodnett and Brock Zearfoss.

Heats for the 31 car field went to Tyler Esh, Stutts and Montieth with the consolation going to Danny Dietrich.

The first 12 laps of the 20 lap 358 sprint main went non-stop with original third starter Jeff Halligan leading from the start.

Halligan slid to the pole for the initial start after Phil Walter relinquished the spot before the green flag could drop.

Halligan’s pace was slowed with 12 down for a third turn spin by Brett Wanner.

The restart saw third runner Chase Dietz hop the cushion and spin in the first turn.

No further cautions would hinder the race after that point with Halligan holding off defending track champion Kevin Nouse for the victory on both of the restarts.

At the finish and for the final 10 laps, Halligan held a one-turn advantage over Nouse.

Matt Findley rode home third followed by Brent Shearer and Chris Frank.

Sixth through 10th went to Nyle Berkes, Brie Hershey, Todd Rittenhouse Jr., Glenndon Forsythe and Gregg Foster.

Heats went to Halligan, Foster and Shearer.

Sheldon Haudenschild Continues Torrid Start to 2018; Captures Third Win of Season at Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA – March 24, 2018 – Last year’s Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Sheldon Haudenschild means business in 2018, as the young Wooster, OH native scored his third World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory of the young 2018 season at Bakersfield Speedway. Haudenschild stormed to the front of the Feature from ninth and was undoubtedly the class of the field, winning by nearly three and a half seconds despite a late caution. Shane Stewart came from seventh for his second consecutive podium finish with early race leader Jason Johnson completing the all World of Outlaws regulars podium.

Johnson was attempting to pull a clean sweep of the program after setting fast time, winning his Heat and taking the Craftsman Club Dash, earning the pole for the 35-lap Feature. Johnson set a fast pace, surviving a couple of cautions and leading the first 14 laps.

2016 Bakersfield winner Brad Sweet appeared to be the man to beat when he took the lead, to a huge applause, on the 15th circuit from his fifth-starting position, after exchanging multiple slide jobs with Johnson. Disaster struck three laps later for Sweet as he did a full 360 rotation and a massive wheelie before his NAPA Auto Parts No.49 machine came to a stop in turn two.

That allowed Johnson to re-assume the lead with Haudenschild right beside him on the double-file restart. Johnson kept Sheldon at bay for a couple of laps as the duo traded the lead each corner for a handful of laps enthralling the large Bakersfield Speedway crowd once again. Haudenschild officially led Lap 23 and was never truly challenged after that point.

The excitement didn’t stop there though for the driver of the NOS Energy Drink, Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall No.17 as Sheldon asserted his dominance over the field by lapping cars at a rapid pace, throwing massive slide jobs along the way. On Lap 29, Sheldon saw a four-second lead erased for one final caution.

Sheldon powered away on the restart, with no challenge going to win by 3.446 seconds. Haudenschild was the topic amongst the crowd all night after coming from 10th in his Heat Race, after spinning, to finish third. “It just shows how good my guys are,” Haudenschild said in reference to his recovery from the Heat Race blunder. “A lot of guys were fighting for the bottom and I just went where the track was free,” Haudenschild added about his cushion-pounding move in the qualifying event.

“It feels really good to a get a third win this early on in the season. This NOS Energy Drink No.17 was on a rail all night,” Haudenschild said in Victory Lane.

Shane Stewart secured his second consecutive podium finish on the strength of restarts. “[Double-file restarts] are one of the crazy and cool things about the World of Outlaws and I’ve been on the wrong end of them before, but tonight they worked out for us. Hopefully, we can get a win here real soon,” Stewart said after exiting his DC Solar sponsored Kyle Larson Racing No.2 machine.

Jason Johnson was in good spirits with his third-place finish despite leading a large portion of the race. “We came up a little bit short, we were a little too free once the fuel burned off, but still a very good night for this team. It’s always good to be on the podium,” the Eunice, LA native said.

Joey Saldana came from 14th to finish fourth with Ian Madsen coming from 16th to complete the top five. Neither of those efforts was good enough to secure KSE Hard Charger honors as that belonged to Donny Schatz, who came from 21st to finish sixth. The first six finishers, and eight of the first nine across the line, were World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series regulars.

The Series takes next weekend off as the Series allows its drivers, crews and teams a weekend to observe the Easter Holiday. The Greatest Show on Dirt continues its 40th Anniversary Season at Arizona Speedway on April 7, tickets can be purchased here. If you can’t make it to the track, be sure to tune into DIRTVision.com to watch all the action live!

Cory Haas powers to a podium finish at Lincoln Speedway

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

YORK, Pa. (March 19, 2018) – Ending a streak of disappointing finishes for the second generation racer, Cory Haas powered to a podium finish on Saturday at the “Fabulous” Lincoln Speedway, taking advantage of a third row starting position, the result of a second place finish during his respective heat race.

Haas, pilot of the Trone Outdoor Motorsports/Trone Outdoor Advertising/Eagle Evergreens/Bricker’s/Connecticut Oil Kings/No. 39 sprint car, maintained a position inside the top-five during the entire 25-lap program on Saturday afternoon, advancing to third with less than five laps in the books. Eventual winner, Brian Montieth, was able to sneak by Haas during his pursuit to the front, but the York native rebounded and drove by Cole Young to regain third.

“We needed that one,” Cory Haas said, who finished tenth in the final Central PA Sprint Series championship standings in 2017. “Sometimes, it takes a few weeks to get things clicking the right way. The beginning of our season was a prime example of that. I think we figured out a few things on Saturday and now have ourselves in a more comfortable position for next weekend.”

Cory Haas and Trone Outdoor Motorsports will continue their 2018 season on Friday and Saturday, March 23-24, with a pair of routine visits in Central Pennsylvania. Haas will join the field at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg on Friday night, followed by a trip back to the Pigeon Hills on Saturday.

“I can’t thank John Trone and the entire team enough for their help and support in 2018,” Haas continued. “The plan is to keep these solid finishes going and build up some positive momentum before the bulk of our busy season begins.”

MONTIETH WINS LAST LAP THRILLER FOR 56TH CAREER WIN AT LINCOLN SPEEDWAY

Jeremy Ott claims first career win in Central PA Legends season opener

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA 3/17/2018 – Montieth drove under race-long leader Alan Krimes with the white flag waving entering the first and second turns, and raced away to his historic 56th career win in the 25-lap 410 sprint feature at the Fabulous Lincoln Speedway Saturday afternoon.

It looked like Alan Krimes had the field covered, leading the first 23 laps from his pole starting position. But then Montieth “happened”!

Montieth came from his 9th starting position and charged through the field to move into second place on the 16th lap. But with Krimes effortlessly working through lapped traffic early on it didn’t appear Montieth would have a shot at the win.

A series of fortuitous cautions kept giving Krimes a clear track and remained in control as the laps wound down. But following the final caution restart with six laps to go, Krimes caught lapped traffic as Montieth closed with two laps to go.

With the white flag waving, Krimes got bottled up behind lapped cars entering the first and second turns. Montieth dove under Krimes and exiting the second turn with the lead and then led the final turns for his first win of 2018.

Krimes settled for a disappointing runner-up finish, with sixth-starting Cory Haas third, 10th-starting Kyle Moody fourth, and Jim Siegel fifth.

Completing the top-10 were Lucas Wolfe, Anthony Macri, Glenndon Forsythe, Greg Hodnett, and Caleb Helms

Heats for the 27 410 Sprints were won by Krimes, Brett Michalski, and Cole Young.

Heats for the 30 Central PA Legends were won by Mason Chaney, Scott Haudeshell, and Travis Perry, with Lucas Montgomery winning the consolation.

Lincoln Speedway switches to night time racing next Saturday, March 24th at 6 PM, with the 410 Sprints being joined by the 358 Sprints. Gates will open at 4 PM, with hot laps getting underway at 5:30 PM, and heats at 6 PM.

Cory Eliason Leads All 30 Laps to Score First Career Outlaw Victory at Stockton

STOCKTON, CA - March 17, 2018 – California native Cory Eliason, aboard the famed Roth Motorsports No.83, dominated the FVP Platinum Battery Western Spring Shootout at Stockton to score his first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory. Eliason, who scored a career-high second place finish last weekend at Tulare, survived numerous cautions to secure the hometown victory. Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Contender Ian Madsen finished second with Shane Stewart completing the podium.

Eliason won the Craftsman Club Dash, earning the pole for the 30-lap Feature alongside FVP-sponsored driver Brian Brown. Eliason powered out to the early lead on the elbows up surface and reached lapped traffic on the fourth circuit.

The first of a handful of cautions came on lap 10 as the hole in turn three swallowed up Brown while he was running second. That allowed Rico Abreu to assume second only temporarily, as a few laps later during a caution for Parker Price-Miller, Abreu surrendered his runner-up position and pulled into the work area.

When action resumed, Madsen found himself in second looking for a way around Eliason. The Selma, CA native was masterful in traffic, never allowing the field to mount a serious challenge. The closest call of the night for Eliason was entering turn one on lap 24, as his No.83 car hit a rut and bobbled heavily.

Brad Sweet, while running in the top five, slowed to a stop with three laps remaining giving the field one last chance to steal a victory from Eliason. But, it was not meant to be tonight, Eliason was the class of the field as he distanced himself from the field on the restart to win by nearly two seconds.

“It feels great to finally get an Outlaw win. And at home, too,” an out-of-breath Eliason said in Victory Lane. “That track was technical and it definitely wore me out. Hopefully we can another one next weekend,” Eliason added.

Ian Madsen was pleased with his runner-up finish, “We had nothing for those guys. Congrats to Cory on his first career win. This was a great night for our KCP team. We haven’t had much luck to start the season, so it’s great to a good night under our belt.”

Likewise, Shane Stewart was also happy for his first podium finish of 2018. “I don’t think it was the prettiest third place run; but we’ll take it,” Stewart said with a chuckle. “We need some good runs to get our momentum rolling.”

10th-starting Carson Macedo followed up his top-five at Tulare with an impressive fourth place finish. Tim Kaeding, aboard Jason Sides No. 7S, came from 13th to complete the top five.

During intermission, the World of Outlaws announced that the Brad Sweet Placerville Short Track Showdown has been postponed to Wednesday, September 12. The Outlaws continue their 40th Anniversary Season Friday, March 23 at Ocean Speedway before heading south to Bakersfield Speedway on Saturday, March 24. Tickets for both events are still available at woosprint.com. If you can’t make it to the track, be sure to tune into DIRTVision.com for live video of every World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series race in 2018.

Brent Marks prepares for two nights at Stockton Dirt Track

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

STOCKTON, Calif. (March 12, 2018) – After a short weekend in Tulare, cut short due to Mother Nature, the “Myerstown Missile” Brent Marks will continue his 2018 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series campaign with a pair of visits to the Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., on Friday and Saturday, March 16-17. The FVP Platinum Battery Western Spring Shootout will be the main attraction, highlighted with back-to-back World of Outlaws programs.

Marks made his first-ever appearance at Stockton Dirt Track in 2017, recording a top-ten finish with the Greatest Show On Dirt after starting on the outside of row 11. The former Pennsylvania Posse representative charged ahead to finish ninth during the 30-lap program, a near-perfect recovery after not transferring through his respective heat race and forced to race the evening’s Last Chance Showdown.

“We’re excited to get back to Stockton Dirt Track, for sure,” Brent Marks, pilot of the Brent Marks Racing/M&M Painting & Construction/BAPS Auto Paint & Supply/Eagle Hotel/No. 19, said. “That was a big night for us when we were there last year. That makes us all the more motivated to get back there this weekend. This time we’ll work on achieving a better A-main starting position.”

During recent World of Outlaws competition, Brent Marks joined the Greatest Show On Dirt at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., on Friday, March 9. Unfortunately for Marks, his night ended during the Last Chance Showdown, unable to qualify for the evening’s main event.

Marks will enter the Stockton Dirt Track gates 18th in the current World of Outlaws standings, highlighting the season thus far with a pair of top-ten finishes, one resulting in a KSE Hard Charger Award.

SELINSGROVE SPEEDWAY NAMES TODD PEIFER DIRECTOR OF FIRE & SAFETY SERVICES; INTENSIVE HANDS-ON TRAINING HELD FOR TRACK SAFETY CREW MARCH 11

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Selinsgrove Speedway named Todd Peifer of Millersburg as the speedway’s Director of Fire & Safety Services for the upcoming 2018 season. Peifer, who owns and operates Peifer Fire Protection, Inc., is a veteran emergency medical technician (EMT) and expert in the field of fire suppression and safety.

For more than 27 years, Peifer Fire Protection is one of the leading fire suppression companies in the United States, and Peifer himself is one of a select few specially-trained industrial fire brigade instructors. His company provides fire suppression equipment to a number of regional and national motorsports venues.

“We are very pleased to have Todd take on this leadership position with the track,” said Selinsgrove Speedway General Manager Steve Inch. “Safety is the most important aspect of operating a race track, and Todd’s wealth of knowledge and expertise will complement one of the best-trained safety crews at any speedway in the country.”

Peifer will oversee the coordination and logistics of the speedway’s fire and safety program with the Dauntless Hook & Ladder Fire Company of Selinsgrove. A direct communication link with Central Susquehanna Communications (911 Unit) has been established for the speedway to dispatch additional emergency, aero-medical, and state police resources if needed.

“My parents were season ticket holders at Selinsgrove Speedway so I’ve had a connection to the track since I was a child,” said Peifer. “I enjoyed volunteering on the fire crew and wanted to share my experience in the industry to make the track’s safety crew the best it can be.”

“My goal is to pull the crew together, give them the tools and training they need to be prepared for any situation they might face, and take Selinsgrove Speedway’s safety program to the next level by using today’s technology to our advantage,” Peifer continued. “We want the drivers, crews, and fans to feel safe when they are at the track.”

For the 2018 season, the safety crew has been outfitted with new helmets purchased by the Selinsgrove Fair Association and a dedicated set of two-way radios provided by the speedway. The new radio system will allow safety crew members to communicate among themselves as well as with track officials.

Selinsgrove Speedway was one of the first dirt tracks in the country with a fully operational Purple-K fire response vehicle thanks to the contributions by Peifer Fire Protection. Purple-K is one of the most effective agents used to extinguish flammable liquid fires such as those that are prone to occur in auto racing.

FRP/Fire & Rescue Products of Harrisburg will continue to provide the speedway’s safety crew with a dedicated “Jaws of Life” unit in the event a driver needs to be extricated from a race car.

Hilly Ridge Sales & Service of Mt. Pleasant Mills provided the speedway with a 2018 Mahindra Retriever for the upcoming season. The all-terrain vehicle has been equipped to serve as an additional Purple-K mobile response unit.

INTENSIVE HANDS-ON FIRE & SAFETY TRAINING DAY CONDUCTED BY EXPERTS
FROM PEIFER FIRE PROTECTION, POCONO RACEWAY, NHRA, FIRE & RESCUE PRODUCTS

MILLERSBUG, Pa. – Todd Peifer, who was recently named Selinsgrove Speedway’s Director of Fire & Safety Services, conducted an intensive hands-on training day March 11 for more than 25 safety crew members at the Peifer Fire Protection, Inc. facility in Millersburg.

Peifer was joined by Dave Richards, Fire Chief at Pocono Raceway; Steve Jeffrey, Fire & Rescue at Pocono Raceway; Tino Gonzalez, Northeast Division Services Coordinator with the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA); and John Brownawell from FRP/Fire & Rescue Products.

The guest speakers gave lectures and provided hands-on training covering race track best practices for fire suppression, rescue equipment operation, extrication, emergency vehicle staging, personal protection and communication, to name a few.

Jim Bernheisel at Bernheisel Race Cars in Lebanon provided late model chassis and Ken Duke Racing of Selinsgrove provided a sprint car chassis for the various training exercises.

“On behalf of Selinsgrove Speedway, we would like to thank Todd and everyone who contributed time and resources to make this an effective and successful training day at Peifer Fire Protection,” said Inch.

Selinsgrove Speedway’s 2018 season opener is slated for 6 p.m. Saturday, April 7, featuring the Mach 1 Chassis 360 sprint cars, Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center super late models, and A&A Auto Stores pro stocks.

The victory, the 39th of his career in the Pigeon Hills, was accomplished from the outside of row two, charging ahead to take command of the 25-lap feature program on lap 14. From that point forward, it was all Dietrich at the front of the field, blasting ahead to cross under the final checkers 1.25 seconds ahead of the running order.

Lucas Wolfe Scores First Career Williams Grove Season Opener Sunday

3/11/18
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MECHANICSBURG - Lucas Wolfe of Mechanicsburg led from start to finish to pick up the prestigious Williams Grove Speedway season opener for sprint cars on Sunday afternoon.

Wolfe’s first victory in the oval opener was worth $3,600. It was the 18th overall victory of his Williams Grove Speedway career.

The initial start of the 25 lap main for the 410 sprints was red-flagged when Phoenixville’s Brian Montieth vaulted into a series of flips in the second corner after starting 10th.

Montieth escaped injury.

Wolfe then went to work from the pole position to take control in the event ahead of Ohio invader Caleb Helms.

The first 22 laps of the race went non-stop with Wolfe entering lapped traffic on the seventh tour while pulling away.

And by the time the caution flag unfurled with three laps to go, Wolfe had built up a 9.077 second lead over Helms.

The caution flag appeared for a spin in the third turn by Cory Haas, who was running in eighth spot at the time.

As Haas spun backward, defending opening day winner Danny Dietrich made contact with the spinner however he was able to stay under power.

On the restart, another red flag appeared for yet another series of flip, this time as executed by Anthony Macri in the first corner.

Again, there were no injuries.

Ninth starter Greg Hodnett made the most of the final three laps once action resumed, getting by Helms on the final circuit for second.

Hodnett had previously motored inside the top five by getting around Freddie Rahmer and Jason Shultz with five laps to go.

Wolfe took the win by 1.645 seconds over Hodnett with Helms in third followed by Rahmer and Brock Zearfoss.

Sixth through 10th went to Shultz, Danny Dietrich, TJ Stutts, Coleman Gulick and Gerard McIntyre Jr.

Twin heats went to Montieth and Zearfoss.

Feature finish: 1. Lucas Wolfe, 2. Greg Hodnett, 3. Caleb Helms, 4. Freddie Rahmer, 5. Brock Zearfoss, 6. Jason Shultz, 7. Danny Dietrich, 8. TJ Stutts, 9. Coleman Gulick, 10. Gerard McIntyre Jr., 11. Bradley Howard, 12. Troy Fraker, 13. Anthony Macri, 14. Cory Haas, 15. Rick Lafferty, 16. Kody Lehman, 17. Brandon Rahmer, 18. Brian Montieth, 19. Jared Esh

DANNY DIETRICH OUTDUELS WOLFE FOR 39TH CAREER LINCOLN WIN

Central PA Legends to join 410 sprint cars for final afternoon show of the season next Saturday, March 17th

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA 3/10/2018 – “I think I’d rather forget about last week,” said Danny Dietrich upon exiting his Weikert’s Livestock/Sandoe’s Fruit Market No.48 in victory lane. “It feels good to be standing here today.”

“These guys (crew) put in a lot of hard work over time and so did I. To be good and get a daytime win here (feels real good)…last year it wasn’t over until it was nighttime.”

Fourth-starting Dietrich of Gettysburg followed polesitter and race-long leader Lucas Wolfe through the first half of the 25-lap feature before edging by for the lead at the start-finish line of the 14th lap. The caution waved for a spinning Chris Prior just before they got into the first and second turns, making the pass official even though the lap didn’t count as half the field didn’t cross the line before the caution actually waved. From there Dietrich was able to keep Wolfe behind him the rest of the way to claim his first win of the year and the $3,500 top prize that went with it in the 25-lap 410 sprint car feature at the Fabulous Lincoln Speedway Saturday afternoon.

“His car was really good,” said Dietrich on battle with Lucas Wolfe for the second week in-a-row. “He could really drive through the middle and drive the top pretty good and be pretty stuck.”
“I just felt the bottom was a good place to be. I got down there and stuck to it and made it my preferred line. Down there (turns one and two) you could move around. You could get on top and on bottom. I was just trying to make some moves. He’s got a fast car and he been hard to pass. I really wasn’t sure (if he could pass him).”

For the second straight week, Wolfe started on the pole, and led the first 13 laps before yielding to Dietrich, who had caught second-starting Kyle Moody for the runner-up spot on lap nine. Dietrich chased Wolfe after moving into second place, but was waiting for the right moment to make a bid for the lead. Dietrich found the opportunity exiting the fourth turn on the 14th lap and edged by at the line to complete the lap.

“I knew I just had to get back out”, said Dietrich on trying to wrestle the lead from Wolfe. “At some point in time I knew I had to abort my line and get back out and disturb his air…I’m glad he didn’t get back in front of me. I wasn’t sure I could get back by him. The track was getting pretty narrow all around and I wasn’t sure I could get back around him.”

An 18th lap caution for a spinning Caleb Helms gave Wolfe one last opportunity to retake the lead from Dietrich. But Dietrich was up to the challenge and raced to a 1.215-seconds win in front of Wolfe for his 39th career win at the Pigeon Hills oval.

“I was pretty good before that last caution came out,” revealed Dietrich afterwards. “I didn’t feel like my car was as good after that caution and I wasn’t sure with all the (previous) cautions that my tires were sealing over a little bit or whatever.”

“I had him at the line (just before the caution came out) and who knows if I would have made it through one and two in front of him…I’m just glad to beat him.”

Wolfe settled for second, with third-starting Greg Hodnett finishing third, ninth-starting Brian Monteith fourth, and Moody settling for fifth.  Sixth through tenth were tenth-starting Brandon Rahmer, 12th-starting Gerard McIntyre, Jr., 16th-starting Tim Glatfelter, 15th-starting Jim Siegel, and opening day winner Chad Trout.

Heats for the 25 410 Sprints were won by Wolfe, Caleb Helms (who was collected in Freddie Rahmer’s spin on lap 12 of the feature and then spun again in turn two of lap 19), and Cory Haas whose early season woes continued with a spin from his sixth-starting spot at the drop of the green in the first two turns of the feature. Haas did come back through the field to finish 11th.
Next Saturday, March 17th, Lincoln Speedway returns with its final afternoon show, but its first 2-division show, of 2018 with the 410 Sprints being joined by the Central PA Legends. Gates will open at noon, with heats beginning at 2 PM.

Reutzel Earns First Outlaw Win in Thunderbowl Thriller

TULARE, CA – March 9, 2018 – Texas native Aaron Reutzel scored his first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory in thrilling fashion after exchanging multiple slide jobs with local driver Cory Eliason. A lap 20 yellow for then race leader Sheldon Haudenschild bunched the field together and Reutzel began picking off the leaders in exciting fashion. Eliason settled for second with Donny Schatz completing the podium.

Eliason, aboard the famed Roth Motorsports No.83, won the Craftsman Club Dash, earning the pole for the 35-lap Feature alongside fellow California native Jason Meyers. Eliason, in search of his first Outlaw victory, set the pace for the first 11 laps before giving way to red-hot Sheldon Haudenschild on the 12th circuit.

Sheldon, who set a new Tulare track record in qualifying, seemingly had the fastest car on the track and maneuvered the heavy lapped traffic well as he continued to extend his lead. Coming off of turn four on lap 18, Haudenschild got into the back of a lapped car and the Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall No.17 never settled down. Haudenschild muscled his ill-handling machine through turn one and two, before making heavy contact with the frontstretch wall at the completion of the lap, ending the young gun's bid for his third win of the young season.

Eliason assumed the lead, but this time with nine-time Series Champion Donny Schatz alongside of him. The young Visalia, CA native got a strong restart and established a sizeable lead over the veteran. Reutzel, who restarted sixth, came to life as he pounded the cushion, weaving in and out of cars grabbing third on lap 23 and passing Schatz two circuits later to claim the second spot.

Reutzel arrived at leader Eliason on lap 28 and the duo waged war for the top spot, as you would expect of two drivers looking for their first World of Outlaws victory. The duo exchanged sliders in each corner exciting the large Thunderbowl Raceway crowd. Reutzel secured the victory on lap 31 as he powered his Baughman/Reutzel owned No.87 around Eliason down the backstretch and pulled away for his first career Outlaw triumph.

“This is a dream come true. I’ve led a handful of Outlaw shows in the past, but never been able to finish the job; you start doubting yourself. It’s something you don’t think will ever happen,” a jubilant Reutzel said. “It all played out perfect tonight. This track is truly special. It fits my driving style – gas it up on the fence. I am so lucky to have the people behind me that I do,” the former 360-winged sprint car ace added.

Eliason settled for second and was in good spirits, “It’s always tough when you are out front in traffic. Aaron drove a great race. Hopefully, the weather cooperates, and we get another chance at it tomorrow,” he said.

Schatz was also pleased with his podium finish as he extended his early Series points lead, “A top-three finish is very respectable for us at Tulare. We usually don’t run too well on tracks like this.”

Dominic Scelzi and 12th-starting Carson Macedo completed the top five. Tim Kaeding, aboard the Sides Motorsports No.7S, earned KSE Hard Charger honors coming from 16th to finish eighth in his first start for Sides. Action continues Saturday night at the Thunderbowl Raceway as the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series tackles the high-banked bullring once again.
