60th NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey's Postponed Until August 2021

Tuesday, June 30, 2020
KNOXVILLE, IA (June 30, 2020) -- The Marion County Fair Board and Knoxville Raceway have postponed the 60th running of the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s until August 11-14, 2021.

In lieu of the Knoxville Nationals, Knoxville Raceway will partner with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series for three nights of racing, August 13-15, culminating with the Brownells Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank, previously scheduled on Sunday, August 9. The 2020 Brownells Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank will pay $50,000 to win and $3,000 to start. Due to COVID restrictions, only 7,000 spectators will be permitted to attend each night. Further information for this race will be announced at a later date.

“This is devastating for all of us on the fair board and at the track, as we know it is for all our fans, competitors, sponsors, employees and everyone in the racing community,” said Brian Bailey, president of the Marion County Fair Board. “A year without the Knoxville Nationals just feels surreal. This is not the outcome any of us wanted. We can promise everyone, that when the 60th running of the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s happens, it will be our biggest event yet. We’ll be eager and ready to welcome all 23,000-plus fans back to Knoxville.”

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Knoxville Raceway officials have worked diligently with local government and Iowa state officials to craft a safe plan to host the 60th NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s. Unfortunately, as case numbers continue to rise in the country and mass gatherings continue to be discouraged, the track’s latest and most viable event plan was not approved.

“Since March, we have collaborated on several different plans with state and local officials to make the Knoxville Nationals happen,” Bailey said. “In the end, we were just up against too many obstacles to make the event happen safely and at the level expected of the Knoxville Nationals. We’re grateful for all of the time, effort and understanding we’ve received throughout the process. Collectively, everyone is disappointed with this outcome.”

Ticketing and camping information is listed below. For all inquiries concerning the postponement of the 60th NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s, please call the ticket office at 641-842-5431.

Information on Tickets and Camping:
Tickets: All tickets purchased for the 2020 NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s will be automatically rolled over to the 2021 event. If fans prefer to forfeit their 2021 tickets and receive a refund, they are encouraged to call the Knoxville Raceway ticket office at 641-842-5431. Existing 60th NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s tickets will not be valid for the 2021 event. New tickets will be issued.

Tickets for the 2020 Knoxville Nationals will not be transferable to the aforementioned three-day World of Outlaws event this August.

Previously purchased tickets for the Brownells Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank will be refunded. Information on purchasing tickets for the re-scheduled Capitani Classic on August 15 will be announced soon.

All Stars to visit Wisconsin and Iowa on July 30-August 1; Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race to kick-off weekend at Plymouth

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (June 29, 2020) - Although a slight shuffle in destinations from the original weekend agenda, the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will invade areas within Wisconsin and Iowa during the final days of July and the first weekend of August, setting aim on three tracks over a three-day time lapse, all of which kicking-off with the highly sought after Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race at the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wisconsin, on Thursday, July 30. Originally scheduled for late-May, the second-ever Rayce Rudeen Foundation event will award a $26,000 top prize; the second-largest paying program on the 2020 All Star schedule.

Trekking southwest into the Hawkeye State, the weekend will continue with a visit to 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, on Friday, July 31. Originally slated to take the Sunday, August 2, slot during the All Star invasion of Iowa, but now replacing Jackson Motorplex’s original date, 34 Raceway’s visit will feature the All Star Circuit of Champions for only the fifth time in Series history, most recently on July 28, 2019, for the inaugural Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race that awarded a $26,000 payday. Three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Tony Stewart, was the victor.

Needing no formal introduction, the three-race sweep will conclude with a visit to the Sprint Car Capital of the World, Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday, August 1 for Weiler Night with the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1. Teams represented will battle on the world-famous half-mile for a $5,000 top prize. Fresno, California’s Gio Scelzi scored the 2019 Knoxville Raceway victory featuring Tony Stewart’s All Stars, topping a field of 48 entries for a first-ever Series win.

With the intent to build a four-race weekend through the Midwest, All Star Circuit of Champions officials are working hard to find a destination for Sunday, August 2. Details regarding an added event will be shared when they become available. A visit to Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minnesota, may be an option for Sunday.

For those who can not make the journey to Wisconsin and Iowa, FloRacing, the official media partner of the All Star Circuit of Champions, will be on hand to capture all of the action live. Hill Enjoys ASCS National Tour's Return to Racing

Inside Line Promotions - LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 30, 2020) - Alex Hill made her long-awaited return to racing last weekend with a pair of Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour races following a layoff from the track since March 8 due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

"It was really great to be back racing," she said. "I felt pretty good behind the wheel for being off for so long. I felt like I was still pretty aggressive, like I was the last time we raced in California. We had a fast car."

Hill competed against solid fields of approximately 40 drivers each night, but fortune didn't smile upon her as she fell just one spot short of her goal of making the A Main at both events.

Her first race since March got off to a frustrating start as she lined up for a heat race on Thursday night at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan.

"I was scheduled to start fifth in my heat race," she said. "But another car ahead of me didn't make it and I was told to move to fourth. But when I went to the outside, another car took the fourth spot and I was behind him in sixth. That was the way they started the race and that's where I finished."

Hill's heat race finish slotted her fourth in a B Main, which transferred the top three finishers to the A Main.

"I got up to third in the B Main and ran there for every lap except the last one, when my teammate, Dylan Westbrook, got by me," she said.

Hill took a provisional to start and park the main event.

She enjoyed a better beginning to the night at I-30 Speedway on Saturday when she raced from third to second in her heat race, placing her in the fourth starting position of a qualifier. Unfortunately, a spin in that race sent her to the rear of the 10-car field. Hill eventually finished eighth, which put her second on the starting grid for a B Main.

"We had our car setup to run the bottom," she said. "It was really working well and I was running in second. But the track was weird all night. The faster groove kept moving between the top and bottom. It switched from the bottom to the top during the B Main and a couple of cars got by me and I finished fourth. I should've switched to the top after I was passed for second. That one was on me."

Next up for Hill is a doubleheader at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this Friday and Saturday.

"Knoxville is one of my favorite tracks and I'm really looking forward to racing there two nights this week," she said.

Sams III Records Second-Best ASCS National Tour Result During Debut at Caney Valley Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 30, 2020) - Danny Sams III posted his second-best career result with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour last Thursday during his debut at Caney Valley Speedway.

The oval in Caney, Kan., hosted the first series event since early March and the Sams LaMountain Racing driver was eager for the challenge. He placed second in a heat race to lock into the 11th starting position for the main event.

"We did really well," he said. "I was able to hold onto that 11 th spot for quite a while until a car spun out in front of me. It collected me and tore up the nose wing. We restarted at the back and passed some cars to get back to 13th."

The 13th-place result was one position shy of tying his career-best finish with the series. It marked his top outing of the year.

"It felt good to show up and be right on pace with everyone," he said. "It felt really good to be running up there. We've learned a lot during the little coronavirus offseason and we're trying to put it to good use."

Two days later Sams III ventured to I-30 Speedway for another ASCS National Tour event. He finished where he started in both a heat race - fourth - and a qualifier - seventh.

"We started off the night pretty fast and we made a qualifier," he said. "On the start a car flipped onto me. I was able to salvage a seventh-place finish. That lined me up fourth in a B Main. We were racing for the transfer spot when I was able to get in front of the third-place car. A caution came out before we could complete the lap. On the restart that driver got into the berm and pushed high. I went under him and as I did he went low to block. There was contact going into turn one and I was able to keep going. We ran third for a while before slipping to fourth. Then coming to the white flag I shredded the right rear tire."

Sams III was unable to finish the race after the blown tire.

The team is taking this weekend off before resuming ASCS National Tour action on July 11 at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.

Setters Sweeps Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series Show at Electric City Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - GREAT FALLS, Mont. (June 30, 2020) - James Setters is undefeated on the young season after winning his second straight Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series race last Friday at Electric City Speedway.

Setters, who was driving for Mike Quigley, swept the night by winning both his heat race and the main event.

"We started off in the heat and I didn't get too good of a start," he said. "I got to fourth right away and then got passed by a guy in the middle. I was running the top and switched to the bottom. I passed two guys and a couple of laps later I got the other two guys."

The heat race win earned a spot into the feature redraw. Setters pulled the No. 2 to line up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

"I ran the top again in the main event," he said. "I saw a nose peak under me so I moved to the bottom. I heard them once and then I looked down the next lap and saw them. I figured I better protect the bottom. It felt faster. I had started second guessing myself when I got traffic and wasn't passing them as fast as I wanted to. I'm glad I moved down the track.

"We fixed up the motor before this race and it was running better than it did the first night. It's all coming together."

Setters will return to Electric City Speedway this Friday for his third straight race at the track.

MAKING WAVES: Sheldon Haudenschild eyes repeat victory at Cedar Lake Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing on a hot streak in early half of 2020

NEW RICHMOND, WI – June 30, 2020 – The start of Sheldon Haudenschild’s 2020 season has a much better look than the start of 2019. However, he wouldn’t mind this weekend at Cedar Lake Speedway to be a repeat of last year.

After an up and down start to 2019, Haudenschild earned his first win of the year at the 3/8-mile track. This year, he enters the July 2-4 event at the speedway, again, looking for his first win of the season, but this time on the best hot streak of his career.

The Wooster, OH driver has collected nine top-five finishes and 13 top-10s in the first 17 races of 2020. Last year, he had only three top-fives, seven top-10s and had failed to make four Feature events in a row in the same number of races.

He’s been knocking on the door of a win for the past several weeks, leading laps at the AGCO Jackson Nationals and putting himself in contention to win at a variety of tracks. While he’s been unable to seal the deal, he’s confident in his Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing team, confident in himself and excited to return to Cedar Lake Speedway during the three-day mega event that, for the first time outside the World Finals, will feature the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars and Morton Buildings Late Models.

“It’s one of my favorite tracks,” Haudenschild said about the Wisconsin speedway. “It always seems to put on a good race. Hopefully we can kind of repeat last year and coming out of there with two podiums would be good.”

The doubleheader weekend event at Cedar Lake last year turned into a doubleheader single-day show due to rain. In the first Feature during the day, Haudenschild started eighth and ripped the top to charge through the field and pass 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz for the lead. He parked his NOS Energy Drink #17 in Victory Lane and then finished sixth in the second Feature of the night.

He and his team found better consistency throughout the year after that win. They found themselves in the top-10 more often and never missed another Feature. Haudenschild also went on to dominate the Ironman 55 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55.

A win this year at Cedar Lake this could open the flood gates to a consistent winning streak with the way his team has been performing. He contributes part of that to the entire team getting along and enjoying racing.

“We all have a lot of fun,” Haudenschild said. “Drew, Kyle and Nickolas, they all work really well together. When I show up, I have a lot of fun and it shows up on track. If we keep doing that the results will keep coming.”

Crew chief Kyle Ripper and crew member Nickolas Goodfleisch were new additions to the team this year. Ripper and Haudenschild already had chemistry together, having worked together when Haudenschild ran his own #93 car a few years. That’s proven to be a benefit with their performance, so far.

They built together momentum at the three season opening races during the DIRTcar Nationals in February. Haudenschild finished 11th the first night, eighth the second night and fourth the third night. Then COVID-19 put racing on hiatus before then could keep it rolling.

When racing resumed in May at Knoxville Raceway, Haudenschild had to transfer into the Feature through the Last Chance Showdown but made a charge from 21st up through the field before flipping in Turn 3. He then finished eighth a I-55 and returned the next night with a chance to win at the track but jumped the cushion while leading and flipped.

Since then, he’s only finished outside the top-10 once – with an 11th-place at Lake Ozark Speedway – and has regularly found himself competing in the top-five. Being able to get in a rhythm of racing every weekend has helped, he said.

“Now, giving us a little bit of time to work together and get some racing in has definitely helped,” Haudenschild said.

There will be three days of racing at Cedar Lake Speedway this year with full attendance each night. Thursday night will feature Qualifying for Friday and Saturday’s events and a special $3,000-to-win Showdown race. Friday and Saturday nights will consist of full race programs including Heat Races, Last Chance Showdowns, and a pair of $20,000-to-win, $1,000-to-start Features – 35 laps each for Sprint Cars.

Saturday’s Feature will also be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network – another reason Haudenschild said he is looking forward to the weekend.

“It’s great for our sport and our sponsors,” said Haudenschild, who has been sponsored by NOS Energy Drink for three years now. “Hopefully we can put on a good show for all of the fans at home and see how it goes.”

You can purchase tickets to the three-day show at Cedar Lake by clicking here.

If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch all of the action live on DIRTVision.

Saturday, July 18 (7:30pm) PEPSI NIGHT: 410 Sprints + Super Sportsman (Tour Series event) + Midgets

Abbottstown, PA (June 29, 2020) – Monday night the PA Posse was invaded by the likes of Christopher Bell, Aaron Reutzel and Cory Eliason at Lincoln. With Kyle Larson, Sammy Swindell and Rico Abreu already on the Speedweek circuit the invaders were in full force.

Abreu scored a win for the invaders leading the 30-lap feature wire-to-wire. Rico earned $7,000 for the second PA Speedweek win of his career.

Rico started on the pole with two-time All Star Champion, Aaron Reutzel to his outside.

The lone Posse driver in the redraw for the feature was Ryan Smith and he lined up third for the main event.

When the green flag dropped Rico drove up the track to take Reutzel’s line away going into turn 1 to hold on to the lead. Behind the top two Bell and Smith drag raced back to the line for third with Bell taking the spot coming out of turn 2.

Larson got by Smith for fourth on lap 2 and went to work on Bell for third. Kyle tried a slide job in turns 1 and 2 on lap 4 but Bell go him back to keep the spot coming out of turn 2.

Rico was riding the wall around the track as he approached the tail end of the field on lap 6. Reutzel got Rico's lead down to under a second as the two worked through lapped traffic.

Robbie Kendall brought out the yellow flag on lap 12 when he fell off the pace on the front stretch.

With a line of hard hitters behind him the single file restart was crucial for Abreu. Rico led Reutzel, Bell, Larson, and Brent Marks to the cone for the restart.

Rico went back to the top going into turn 1 with Reutzel testing the bottom. Abreu created some distance as Reutzel held off Bell and Larson.

Larson got sideways in turn 4 on lap 13 but only lost one spot as Marks got by him to take fourth.

Larson slid Marks on lap 17 in turns 1 and 2 to take the fourth spot back.

While running ninth, Brock Zearfoss brought out the caution on lap 19 as he got turned around on the top side of turn 4.

Once again Abreu needed to restart strong with Reutzel, Bell, Larson and Marks lined up behind him. Freddie Rahmer was up to 10th on the restart from his 21st starting spot.

Marks used the bottom line around the track to get by Larson for fourth. Bell and Reutzel were battling for third when Marks caught the two. Marks went to the high side to get by Bell for third on lap 21 but Bell slid him back in turns 1 and 2 to take the spot back.

Reutzel was starting to close in on Abreu’s lead as the two ran along the wall on the top of the track but there were not enough laps for Reutzel to make a pass.

Abreu beat Reutzel to the checkered flag by 1.995 seconds. Bell finished third and Marks crossed the line fourth. After getting by Larson, Smith finished fifth.

Heat winners were Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Ryan Smith, and Lucas Wolfe. Freddie Rahmer was the hard charger finishing 8th after qualifying through the B-main and starting 21st.

This Saturday, July 4, Lincoln Speedway is back in action with 358 Sprints, 305 Sprints, 600 Xcel Modifieds and Extreme Stocks. Racing starts at 7:30PM with pit gates opening at 5:00PM and grandstand gates opening at 5:30PM.

BROWNSBURG, Ind. Michael opens FAST Series season with podium finish at Wayne County Speedway

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

FREMONT, Ohio (June 29, 2020) – Finishing just one position shy of perfect, the ‘Texas Traveler’ T.J. Michael did everything he could to earn a second-ever FAST Series feature win on Saturday night at Wayne County Speedway, but Buckeye veteran and local favorite Dean Jacobs beat him to the stripe.

Michael, driver of the Michael Motorsports/Advanced Architectural Stone/Crown Battery/Fremont Fence Company/Pro-Tech Services/Wood Heating and Air Conditioning/Kear’s Speed Shop/Wings Unlimited/Big D’s Pizza/No. 8M sprint car, finished second on Saturday night at ‘Orrville’s Historic Oval,’ squaring-off for the FAST Series season-opener from the pole position and leading the first 13 circuits.

A great night for the stat book, the runner-up result was Michael’s top performance of the season, thus far, kicking-off the evening with a second-place finish during his respective heat race.

“It was a great night for our team. We certainly needed that one,” Michael said, who owns one FAST Series win while in action at Waynesfield Raceway Park. “I can’t thank everyone who is a part of this team enough. We have the equipment and the ability to win races and that’s what we are working toward. Finishing second can leave a sour taste at times, but it’s tough to be mad about getting beat by Dean (Jacobs). He knows his way around Wayne County. Hopefully we can put this momentum to use and get that extra spot during Wayne County’s speedweek race.”

Other recent results for T.J. Michael includes finishing 18th at Attica Raceway Park one night prior to his Wayne County visit. The Plano, Texas-native opened his evening at Attica with the sixth-fastest time during qualifying time trials, eventually finishing fourth during his respective heat race.

Michael and Michael Motorsports will continue their 2020 campaign with a busy slate of Ohio Sprint Speedweek competition featuring the All Star Circuit of Champions. Michael’s speedweek agenda will feature upwards of seven starts beginning with Attica Raceway Park on Friday, July 3, followed by a Fremont Speedway doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday, July 4-5. Other Speedweek events on Michael’s schedule include Wayne County Speedway on Monday, July 6, Portsmouth Raceway Park on Friday, July 10, and finally, Sharon Speedway on Saturday and Sunday, July 11-12.

SPECIAL THANKS:
TJ Michael and Michael Motorsports would like to thank all of their current marketing partners including: Advanced Architectural Stone, Crown Battery, Fremont Fence Company, Pro-Tech Services, Wood Heating and Air Conditioning, Kear’s Speed Shop, Wings Unlimited, Big D’s Pizza.

37th Kings Royal Weekend Rescheduled to 2021

ROSSBURG, OH — June 29, 2020 — The World of Outlaws and Eldora Speedway have rescheduled the 37th annual Kings Royal Weekend to July 2021.

The legendary half-mile dirt oval’s marquee World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event was originally slated for July 15-18, but the Ohio Department of Health’s orders restricting mass gatherings and spectator events at large venues remains in effect as a part of the state’s overall response to the COVID-19 health crisis.

“Governor Mike DeWine text me to deliver the unfortunate news,” said Roger Slack, general manager of Eldora Speedway. “While acknowledging the importance of our events, especially for Darke County, he stated the orders in place continue to prohibit spectators from motorsports events.

“As we’ve said all along, the fastest way for our race fans to return to the track is for each of us to practice social distancing, wear our masks or cloth face coverings, and practice good hygiene – especially by frequently washing our hands.

“We remain in constant communication with state officials regarding other upcoming events at Eldora as we work to bring fans back to our facility as soon and as safely as possible, all while adhering to the mandates issued by the Ohio Department of Health.”

Eldora and Series officials, who have been working with local and state officials since April to establish re-opening guidance, submitted a detailed proposal to Governor Mike DeWine, the Ohio Department of Health, and the Darke County General Health District, for the return of spectator events at 50 percent capacity during the months of July and August.

The proposal included key learnings from Eldora’s lone race of the 2020 season, a restricted-access competitor-only contest, The Dirt Late Model Stream, held June 4-6. The non-spectator event operated in accordance with a strict Event Protocol developed by Eldora in concert with the world’s top motorsports sanctioning bodies which was reviewed and approved by both the Darke County General Health District and the Ohio Department of Health.

With the encouragement of state officials, Eldora extended its self-imposed deadline to announce a decision on the Kings Royal from June 19 to June 24. When the date passed without approval from state officials, Eldora submitted a “Restart/Reseat Reserved Seat Map” further reducing capacity to just 17.76 percent and submitted it to Governor DeWine Thursday morning.

However, with the Ohio Department of Health’s current orders and with reopening guidance yet to be established by Responsible RestartOhio, spectators remain prohibited from grandstands at Ohio’s large venues – including Eldora Speedway.

The Large Venue Advisory Group, announced by Governor DeWine on May 12, is chaired by Paul Dolan, CEO of the Cleveland Indians. It includes representatives from Ohio’s teams in the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, MiLB, ECHL, MLS, The Memorial PGA Tournament, the Ohio State University, the Mid America Conference, and concert promoter Live Nation. The full membership can be found here: Responsible RestartOhio – Large Venues

Race fans should retain all tickets, credentials, passes and receipts they have received to date for the 37th Kings Royal Weekend. All advance tickets, pit passes, campsites and suite admissions for the 37th Kings Royal will be honored for the rescheduled date in July 2021.

Information, including frequently asked questions with answers, is available at https://www.eldoraspeedway.com/kings-royal-covid/

Officials will continue to use the “When We Know, You’ll Know” policy regarding event information and will communicate updates direct to patron accounts as it becomes available at worldofoutlaws.com, EldoraSpeedway.com, and via official World of Outlaws and Eldora social channels.

Kerry Madsen Nets Sixth-Place Finish During AGCO Jackson Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - JACKSON, Minn. (June 29, 2020) - Kerry Madsen earned his best result during the AGCO Jackson Nationals since 2017 last Saturday when Jackson Motorplex hosted the 42nd edition of the marquee World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event.

Madsen guided the Killer Instinct Crossbows backed Big Game Motorsports sprint car to a sixth-place outing during the finale of the tripleheader, marking his top run on the final night of the event since placing second three years ago.

"I'm a little disappointed because the team is getting real strong," he said. "The car was good every time it hit the track. I felt like overall we were better than sixth place, but it was still a good run."

Madsen qualified sixth quickest before placing sixth in a heat race during Thursday's opener.

"We drew a late pill Thursday night and qualified well," he said. "With the format they did an invert of six for the heat races. We got a bad heat and didn't get a good start. We didn't make the transfer and had to run the Last Chance Showdown."

Rain postponed the second half of the show to Friday evening. Madsen placed second in the consolation race to transfer into the back of the main event. He then rallied from 22nd to 12th to garner the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

"It was an overall points system so it was all about getting points," he said. "We did a good job of getting what we could."

Madsen timed in fourth quickest before he maneuvered from sixth to fourth place in a heat race to start Friday's program. That lined him up on the outside of the eighth row for the main event.

"We qualified well and got through the heat," he said. "We were coming on strong in the feature and were really, really good. I think I was running ninth or 10th. I was trying to pass someone and should have been more patient. I crashed and it broke a drag link. We had to go to the work area. We came back out and got a few spots, but we left some points on the table there."

Madsen battled back to place 19th.

He then finished where he started - second - in a qualifier to kick off Saturday's finale.

"We nearly got Parker Price-Miller to win the qualifier, which would have got us in the dash," he said. "That still put us starting ninth in the feature. We got a great start and were running fifth the majority of the race. Then I got a bad restart and lost two spots. We got one back and ended sixth. We had a really strong race car."

Next up for the team is a trip to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., this Thursday through Saturday for the Independence Day Shootout with the World of Outlaws.

Sides Produces Best Run of Season During AGCO Jackson Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - JACKSON, Minn. (June 29, 2020) - Jason Sides scored his best result of the season last Friday at Jackson Motorplex during the 42nd annual AGCO Jackson Nationals.

Sides won his first dash of the season and ran in the top five throughout most of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series feature before finishing eighth. He is the third different driver to post a top 10 for Sides Motorsports this season.

"It was good, but at the same time you hate to lose spots," he said. "I was looking for a strong top five and ended up eighth."

Sides was efficient throughout the night, qualifying 16th quickest and advancing from third to second place in a heat race to lock into the dash.

"We got the lucky No. 1 for the dash and we won that," he said. "We were fine when we were out front by ourselves. Other than that we'd get a little tight behind other cars. They had worked the track before the feature. It had some wetness around the bottom with crumbs around the middle. When I started the race it hit some looser stuff and slid. (Daryn) Pittman got by and Logan (Schuchart) got by right away. I ran third and then (Brad) Sweet did a slider so I was fourth for the longest time until we got to traffic. The next thing you know I slowed down too much for the lapped cars and that's when Parker Price-Miller and Donny (Schatz) went by. I was running too hard and blew through the cushion on the next end and let two more go by."

The outing was an improvement from the opener, which began on Thursday with Sides qualifying seventh quickest and advancing a position to finish fourth in a heat race. Rain postponed the feature until Friday evening.

"We went down into the corner and got to the bottom to start the feature," he said. "Jacob Allen's car cut off. I checked up, (David) Gravel got in the back of me, (Mark) Dobmeier hit him and we all crashed. We had to restart at the tail end. We weren't good that far back in dirty air. It wanted to bike and try to flip on the first lap. I went to the bottom and once I got some speed up I moved back to the top."

Sides ended 21st.

Saturday's event finale began with Sides placing second in a qualifier to lock into the 12th starting position for the main event.

"On the start and restart I was in the wrong lane and I'd lose a couple of spots," he said. "By midpoint it started laying rubber and that was that."

Sides finished 18th.

He is heading to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., this Thursday through Saturday for the Independence Day Shootout with the World of Outlaws. Tim Kaeding will also be in a Sides Motorsports sprint car during the event.

"I do like that place," Sides said. "It's been good to us in the past. It will be a good event and we have TK with us in the second car so that should be fun."

Daniel Finishes One Spot Shy of Making AGCO Jackson Nationals Main Event

Inside Line Promotions - JACKSON, Minn. (June 29, 2020) - Mason Daniel was only one position away from making the main event during one of winged sprint car racing's crown jewel events last weekend at Jackson Motorplex.

Daniel placed fifth in the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series' Last Chance Showdown on Saturday to narrowly miss advancing into the 42nd annual AGCO Jackson Nationals feature.

"Ever since the Saturday show at Haubstadt a week ago we've been running a lot better," he said. "I think we've figured something out. My confidence and what we have with the car are starting to work well. I want to thank my guys for continuing to work so hard."

Daniel started the Jackson Nationals off last Thursday by qualifying 13 th quickest. He then placed sixth in a heat race. The remainder of the program was postponed to Friday evening because of rain.

"Qualifying is so critical and sets up your whole night," he said. "We got rained out and came back the next day. That was different. It was like one race night was over, but you still have to run stuff from that night the next day. Everything was really good for the car when we came back to the track. I fell back at the start, but was able to get back to a transfer spot in the Last Chance Showdown."

Daniel rallied in the second half of the consolation race to climb back into a transfer position, finishing fourth to line up last in the A Main. He carried that momentum into the feature by gaining four position to place 20th - tied for his second-best result of the season.

Daniel started off the Friday preliminary night by qualifying 19 th quickest. Unfortunately, he was involved in an opening-lap crash in a heat race that sidelined him for the remainder of the night.

The event finale on Saturday featured a fifth-place finish in both a qualifier and the Last Chance Showdown.

"They worked the track on the bottom before the Last Chance Showdown," he said. "I had a good start, but by following someone you aren't going to pass them. I tried running the top. The bottom was better and it made the top dirty. I stayed side by side with Dominic (Scelzi) for the final transfer spot for two or three laps. I realized it was getting too dirty and by the time I moved down the track I lost a couple of spots. I drove back to fifth, which was just one position away from making the main event."

This weekend Daniel will make his debut at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., Thursday through Saturday during the Independence Day Shootout with the World of Outlaws.

SawBlade.com's Bogucki Garners Season-Best Finish During ASCS National Tour Return to Competition

Inside Line Promotions - LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 29, 2020) - Scott Bogucki recorded a season-best runner-up result last Thursday during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour's return to racing.

The SawBlade.com sponsored driver charged from fifth to win a heat race at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan. - site of the first series event since early March. Bogucki made the feature redraw and pulled the No. 1 to line up on the pole.

"We were just too free," he said. "I knew about five laps in I was in trouble. I wasn't going to be good for all 30 laps. It sucks to lead that long and fade, but when they came on the radio and said there were 17 laps to go I knew I'd be lucky to hold on."

Bogucki led 23 of the first 24 laps before falling to second. The runner-up result was his third podium this year.

Two days later the team ventured to I-30 Speedway, where Bogucki maneuvered from fifth to third place in a heat race. He started third in a qualifier, but contact with another driver - twice - relegated him to the pits early.

"I got wiped out twice in the qualifier," he said. "In the B Main someone hit an infield tire and pushed up the track to hit the wall. I had to swerve to miss him. I went through the transponder line first and I was penalized two spots after the checkered flag. I know the rule. It's just really frustrating."

Bogucki placed second in the race to earn a transfer into the main event, but he was credited with a fourth-place finish because of the penalty.

Next up is a doubleheader at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this Friday and Saturday.

"We'll get some laps before the Knoxville Nationals," he said. "I came in last year with zero laps and I know it hurt me."

Hagar Hitting Four Straight Sprint Car Races This Week

Inside Line Promotions - MARION, Ark. (June 29, 2020) - Derek Hagar will nearly double his number of 360ci winged sprint car starts this season when he tackles four straight races this week.

Hagar plans to compete on Wednesday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., before facing USCS Series races on Thursday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.; on Friday at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, Tenn.; and on Saturday at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss.

"My goal is to hit the ground running," he said. "The perfect outcome is to sweep all four races. That'd help get our race team back where it needs to be. We need the attitude of racing back in our shop and to get everyone involved. We've had too much downtime. I know we have a good team and good people behind us. I don't think it'll take us long to get going."

Hagar made four sprint car starts in February, but has only raced in the division once since then. He picked up a triumph on May 31 while driving for long-time friend Marshall Skinner after sitting idle for 15 weeks.

"It's very weird," Hagar said. "It almost got to the point it wasn't fun. It just didn't feel right. It feels good to finally get back in our car and try to contend for some wins."

Despite not racing often, Hagar does have three wins in three official starts during the last month. Two came in his midget.

"It hasn't hurt us as far as success, but from a financial standpoint it hurts," he said in reference to the lack of racing this year. "This is what I do for a living. There's nothing like driving your own car. I've been fortunate to get in some people's cars where I know what it is so we've been able to be successful.

"I'd say our schedule the rest of this year will be hit or miss. We'll see how these four races go and go from there. We need to make it through this and then plan the rest of our year. We still have some of our bigger races like the Hockett Memorial and Short Track Nationals in the fall. We'll see what the schedule brings and go from there."

Starks Venturing to Knoxville Raceway for Weekend Doubleheader

Inside Line Promotions - JACKSON, Minn. (June 29, 2020) - Trey Starks returns to Knoxville Raceway this weekend with confidence that the Gobrecht Motorsports sprint car is getting closer to finding the proper balance.

The team will compete at the half-mile oval in Knoxville, Iowa, on Friday and Saturday. Starks has posted a top-10 finish during two weekly races at the track in 2020.

"Having two days in a row will be a big help for us," he said. "I'm looking forward to two big learning days."

The team has been working hard throughout this season to gain the comfort needed to be a contender. The 42nd annual AGCO Jackson Nationals hosted by Jackson Motorplex was a step in the right direction last weekend.

"I felt like we struggled at first, but had some speed throughout," he said. "We're getting some things figured out and gaining more speed in the car. We're trying to get the balance correct because this is a different car than last year."

Starks showed a big improvement between the two preliminary nights. He ended the opening round 12th in the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series' Last Chance Showdown before winning a heat race and placing sixth in the dash on Friday. That started Starks on the outside of the third row for the main event.

"We ran sixth for about half the race, but we had a tire going down and got into the wall on a restart," he said. "We lost a bunch of spots there and then maintained the rest of the race."

Starks held on for a 16th-place finish. It was his best result of the season with the World of Outlaws.

"We made some significant changes to pretty much the whole race car between Thursday night's show and Friday's show," he said. "It balanced the car out pretty good. It was a lot more stable and we tried to build on that for the rest of the weekend."

Starks finished seventh in a qualifier on Saturday before ending his weekend by rallying from 11th to seventh in the Last Chance Showdown - only three positions shy of making the main event.

"We ran out of time," he said. "It was a good building weekend. I think we're on to something. Hopefully that will pay dividends this weekend at Knoxville."

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: World of Outlaws returns to Cedar Lake for mega event Several drivers riding high of Jackson Nationals success and World of Outlaws returns to national TV on CBS Sports Network

NEW RICHMOND, WI – June 29, 2020 – Independence Day weekend will host the biggest dirt racing event with the World of Outlaws to this point in 2020.

For the first time in history, outside the World Finals, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars and Morton Buildings Late Models will share the top of the bill for the July 2-3-4 mega event at Cedar Lake Speedway.

The event at the 3/8-mile track will include Qualifying and a pair of $3,000-to-win, 20-lap Showdowns for each series on Thursday. Friday and Saturday will consist of full race programs including Heat Races, Last Chance Showdowns, and a pair of $20,000-to-win, $1,000-to-start Features – 35 laps each for Sprint Cars. It will also be the first major American sports event contested with a full crowd and will feature a state-of-the-art coronavirus testing screening.

Fans will also get to see Sprint Cars on live national television, again, with CBS Sports Network broadcasting Saturday’s event, starting at 9 p.m. (ET). DIRTVision will still broadcast all three nights, as well.

With half of the season down already, the hunt for wins and points will be taken to the next level this weekend.

Here are the top World of Outlaws Sprint Car storylines to follow this weekend:

JAWS WIDE OPEN: Once a small team from Hanover, PA simply trying to make World of Outlaws events, Shark Racing is now a top competitor every weekend with the likes of Kasey Kahne Racing and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing. Logan Schuchart is coming off the biggest win of his career, claiming his first AGCO Jackson Nationals title last weekend, and Jacob Allen performed well all three nights at the Nationals, even claiming a Quick Time award.

Cedar Lake could prove to be another feeding ground for the two Shark Racing drivers. Schuchart earned his first career win at the 3/8-mile track in 2016. And Allen had two solid runs there last year, finishing 13th and 10th. Schuchart already has four wins this year, while Allen continues to search for his first. With momentum on their side, there’s a strong chance both could park their Drydene cars in Victory Lane.

"BIG CAT" ON THE PROWL: Reigning Series champion Brad Sweet, of Grass Valley, CA, is not making the 2020 title hunt easy on other drivers. He enters the Cedar Lake event with a 66-point lead over 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz and currently has the most wins this year with five.

Sweet and his Kasey Kahne Racing team showed they were a championship caliber team last year at Cedar Lake during a single-day doubleheader Feature event. A part failure forced their first DNF of the year in the first Feature with racing scheduled to start again in about an hour. The KKR team thrashed to get a backup car ready for the second race of the night. Sweet dominated the second Feature and put his NAPA Auto Parts #49 in Victory Lane. “The Big Cat” will be on the prowl to do the same again this weekend.

SCHATZ LOOKING FOR MOMENTUM: When asked what it would take to win the Jackson Nationals, without hesitating, Donny Schatz said, “A one lap head start.” The 10-time Series champion’s answer summarized how his 2020 season is going at the moment.

While Schatz is second in points with two wins, he and his Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing haven’t had the consistency they’ve wanted. He’s had four finishes outside the top-10 in the last seven races. However, he started to build a little momentum in the final two days of the Jackson Nationals, earning a top-five and two top-10 finishes.

Cedar Lake has been a good track for the Fargo, ND driver. He has five wins there – the last coming in 2016 – and finished second and seventh last year.

KNOCKING ON VICTORY’S DOOR: Sheldon Haudenschild, of Wooster, OH, has gone from knocking to banging on the door for a victory this year. The Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing driver has gone on a run of nine top-10 finishes in a row – seven of them being top-five finishes. That even trumps reigning champion and current points leader Brad Sweet’s run of six top-10s in a row.

Haudenschild earned his first win of 2019 at Cedar Lake Speedway, passing 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz to get the job done. That win set him on a path of consistent top-10 finishes and led to his Ironman 55 win. He’ll look to repeat his Cedar Lake victory this weekend in his NOS Energy Drink #17 and put his team on a winning path for the rest of 2020.

GOING THE RIGHT DIRECTION: After two podium finishes in a row at Jackson Motorplex, 2013 Series champion Daryn Pittman and his Roth Motorsports team are starting to turn their 2020 season around.

At the beginning of June, Pittman went on a streak of three finishes outside the top-10. But since the doubleheader at Tri-State Speedway, the Owasso, OK driver has been on a run of five top-10s in a row. He also put himself in contention to win the last two Features at Jackson. While he said, there’s still work for he and the team to do to get themselves back in Victory Lane, they’re gaining on it. He’ll be going for his first win at Cedar Lake Speedway this weekend.

FINDING THE LIMELIGHT: When the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series was last on CBS Sports Network two weeks ago, Kyle Larson Racing driver Carson Macedo thrilled viewers when he beat Brad Sweet for the win at Tri-State Speedway by 0.034 sec.

The Lemoore, CA driver has yet to win on a 3/8-mile track with the Series but finished third at the last Cedar Lake event. He continues to be one of the most consistent drivers this year, having finished outside the top-10 only three times this year. He’s currently tied for the second most top-10 finishes this year with Logan Schuchart. They both have 14. Brad Sweet has 16 – and 14 top-five finishes.
