KENNY EDKIN BACK IN VICTORY LANE AFTER ONE WEEK HIATUS AT BAPS MOTOR SPEEDWAY

YORK HAVEN, Pa.: One week. That was Kenny Edkin’s losing streak in BAPS Super Sportsman competition at BAPS Motor Speedway.

Edkin won the first three shows to kick off the 2020 season, which led to a $500 bounty on his head to anyone who could beat him. Frankie Herr outran the Marysville driver a week ago, which only inspired the defending track champion

And he didn’t disappoint.

Edkin started third in the main event, which was a Super Sportsman Tour race, and got to the lead in hurry. He blasted by Jay Fannasy and Timmie Barrick and led all 25 laps in the Feature.

“I had Russ [Mitten] and Scott [Dellinger] starting around me, so it had to be a lot of take and not much give there at the beginning,” said Edkin, who has four wins in five races at BAPS Motor Speedway.

“I just need to thank the crew and the sponsors. It takes a track, cars, sponsors, and a lot of people to make everything happen. I’m just glad we could put on some good racing for the fans.”

The front row had little chance with Edkin starting in the third position. He charged to the front on the opening lap and didn’t look back.

It seemed the only thing that could slow Edkin’s pace was caution periods. The first came on Lap 7, when TImmie Barrick stopped on the track. He was later penalized two rows for jumping the restart. He was black flagged for not responding to the penalty.

Russ Mitten and Scott Delinger started in the top six and came to the front in short order. They chased down the leader and appeared to have enough speed to challenge, but that changed when Edkin moved to the top of Turns 1 and 2.

“The boys got the car rolling in the slick really well,” Edkin said. “We did a lot of testing here and got really good in the slick.

“Last week, it was survival of the fittest and rough cowboy. Tonight, it was about finding where the track was fast. Someone showed me the top in one and two, and I figured I needed to get up there and run the curb.”

Edkin survived one more restart on Lap 23 and took the win. Mitten, Dellinger, Rich Eichelberger, and Steve Fannasy completed the top five. Dellinger, Edkin, and Barrick were heat winners for the 22-car field.

Like Edkin, Dalton Bigler led every lap to score the win in the 20-lap Creekside Auto Sales Late Model event.

There were three cautions over the race distance, with the final one coming on the 13th circuit. Bigler held off Chase Billet over the closing stages of the race to preserve his spot in Victory Lane.

Billet settled for second, with Troy Miller, Ben Whitaker, and Alan Sagi completing the top five. Billett, Devin Frey, and Drew Weisser were heat winners for the 25-car field.

In PA Sprint Series competition, John Walp started on the pole and sped away from the competition to claim the 20-lap feature victory.

Ken Duke Jr. started beside Walp and finished second. Doug Dodson, Dave Grube, and Landon Price completed the top five. Johnny Scarborough, Price, Dave Brown, and Duke were heat winners for the 34-car field.

Will Walls started on the point and led every lap in the Mike’s Towing and Recovery/Frankie’s Used Auto Parts Street Stock main event.

Eric Tripp came from eighth to finish second in the 20-lap affair. Greg Diehl, Brandon Wanner, and Sam Leonard Jr. completed the top five.

Zachary Myers finished fifth but was disqualified for having an illegal carburetor. Michelle Walls and Diehl were heat winners for the 18-car field.
