Abbottstown, PA (July 29, 2020) – After charging from ninth to third in his second heat race to solidify a second place starting spot in the 40-lap feature, David Gravel said “If I can’t win from second I should quit” during a pit interview. Gravel won’t be quitting anytime soon as the World of Outlaw driver led wire to wire to claim the $10,000 prize in Wednesday night’s Drydene 40.

Gravel lined up to the outside of Brian Montieth for the feature start. Gravel used his outside starting spot to gain the advantage over Montieth going into turn 1. Logan Schuchart settled into third while Brent Marks and Lucas Wolfe battled for fourth behind the leaders.

The first caution of the race came on lap 2 when Adam Wilt came to a stop on the back stretch.

Gravel led Montieth, Schuchart, Marks and Wolfe to the cone for the single file restart.

Montieth went high to try and catch Gravel but it left the bottom open for Schuchart to take second in turns 1 and 2.

Marks followed taking third, but the caution came out again on lap 3 before the lap was completed to make the pass official. The yellow was for Billy Dietrich who got spun around in turns 1 and 2.

Once again Gravel paced the field for the restart. Gravel and Schuchart pulled away from Montieth as he tried to fend off Marks. Marks got by Montieth for third on lap 4.

After suffering extensive damage in his heat first heat race and qualifying through the B-main, Freddie Rahmer pulled in on lap 8.

Schuchart stayed with Gravel at the front of the pack as the two pull away from the field. Marks also pulled away from the rest of the field as he reeled in the leaders.

Lucas Wolfe entered the top four on lap 10 after getting by Montieth. Brandon Rahmer followed getting into the top 5.

The leaders entered lapped traffic on lap 12. Marks used the bottom in turns 1 and 2 to get by Schuchart for second on lap 13 as Logan tapped the wall using the high line.

Schuchart took second back on lap 15 but only temporarily as Marks took the spot back right at the line.

Schuchart tried the top in 1 and 2 to get by Marks but it was to no avail.

Marks got to the bumper of Gravel but couldn’t make a move for the lead.

The top three were running under a blanket as Gravel and Marks were nearly side by side at the line with 7 laps to go.

Gravel beat Marks to the line for the $10,000 pay day by .485 seconds. Schuchart finished third only .407 seconds behind Marks. Wolfe crossed the line fourth and Alan Krimes completed the top five.

Utilizing the Dirt Classic format points were given for time trial finish and two sets of heat races. The first set of heat races were lined up straight up from time trials. The first set of heats were won by Brian Montieth, Lucas Wolfe and Jacob Allen. The heat line ups for the second set of heats were an invert of the first set. The second set of heats were won by Lance Dewease, Anthony Macri and Dylan Cisney. After time trials and heats the top 20 were locked into the 40-lap feature. The remaining cars ran the B-main with the top four transferring to the main event.

This Saturday, August 1, Lincoln Speedway is back in action with DCS School of Driving Night featuring 410 Sprints, 358 Sprints and Classic Cars.  Action starts at 7:30PM with pit gates open at 5PM and grandstand gates opening at 5:30PM.

West Jr. Learns Throughout ASCS Mid-South Region Show at I-30 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (July 28, 2020) - Jeffrey West Jr. soaked up as many lessons as he could last Saturday during his fifth career 360ci winged sprint car race.

West Jr. visited I-30 Speedway for the second career time during an ASCS Mid-South Region event.

"I started on the pole of our heat race and I got passed in the first turn by Marshall Skinner and Ernie Ainsworth," he said. "We rode in third for the whole heat race. Then we had to run the B Main and I led the first half of it before Brad Bowden passed me.

"In the B Main people kept throwing sliders on me going into turn one. I had about six restarts I had to do and that was great experience. I don't have much experience being on the pole. I was able to get good jumps the last couple of restarts. I'm still learning every weekend."

The runner-up result in the B Main earned a transfer into the main event. West Jr. gained a pair of positions in the feature to finish 14 th. It marked his career-best outing at the quarter-mile oval.

"We've got to get the car dialed in for when the track gets slick," he said. "We're still learning that. But I feel like we made better progress than when we were there the first time. Once the track rubbered up it was my first time experiencing that, too. It was pretty wild. It rubbered up in turns one and two. I could hit it and get a huge run down the back straightaway. I'm just learning so much each time we race."

The outing moved West Jr. into 10th in the ASCS Mid-South Region championship standings. He is only 54 points out of the top five.

Next up is a new track and a new state this Saturday when West Jr. joins the ASCS Mid-South Region at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss.

"I don't have too high of expectations," he said. "A solid top 10 would be great. It will be kind of a guessing game as far as the setup. I feel like I adjust pretty quickly. That will be the biggest track I've ran on so that will take some getting used to as well."

Sams III Fine-Tuning Engine and Setup as 360 Knoxville Nationals Nears

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 28, 2020) - Sams LaMountain Racing is hoping a mechanical adjustment or two will be just what Danny Sams III needs at Knoxville Raceway.

The primary engine visited a dyno this week in an effort to fine-tune it with the 360 Knoxville Nationals just around the corner.

"Qualifying has really been burying us at Knoxville," Sams III said. "I'm running half a second faster in the C Main when the track is slicked off compared to in qualifying when the track is heavy. We're just lacking some speed."

Sams III qualified 20th quickest in his group last Saturday at the half-mile oval. He then gained two positions to finish eighth in a heat race before winning the C Main from third. Unfortunately, the night ended early on the opening lap of the B Main.

"We were in the wrong spot at the wrong time," he said. "Someone flipped in front of us and the car next to me turned left. We collided and rode it out for a second before we ended up getting upside down. When I went end over end it snapped a tube on the frame. We have that getting welded back together this week."

Sams III said the team will use a backup car when returning to Knoxville Raceway this Saturday for the final round of preparation prior to the 360 Knoxville Nationals.

"We tried some stuff on the car and it didn't work last Saturday," he said. "We know where to look to get the car to dig into the track more instead of it wanting to get loose. Hopefully we can keep getting closer to where we need to be."

Setters Extends Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series Winning Streak and Earns ASCS Frontier Region Hard Charger Award

Inside Line Promotions - BILLINGS, Mont. (July 28, 2020) - James Setters added another victory to his total and he passed the most cars during his season debut in 360ci winged sprint car competition last weekend.

Setters led the Mike Quigley owned sprint car to his fourth consecutive Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series triumph on Friday at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, Mont. A day later Setters passed 10 cars to finish 12th during an ASCS Frontier Region event at Big Sky Speedway.

The weekend began on Friday with Setters advancing from fifth to third place at Electric City Speedway. That lined him up on the outside of the third row for the 20-lap A Main.

"I passed a couple of people in the first turn and then stayed in third for most of the race," he said. "I had a really good battle with Shane Moore and my teammate Rich Bailey. I think I got Shane on Lap 10 and then Rich on Lap 15."

Setters led the remaining handful of laps to extend his winning streak to seven in a row during series competition dating back to last year.

"It's nice because every time I win they look at it and say let's go beat this kid," he said. "Kory Wermling came up to race and put up a good fight a couple weeks ago. Rich Bailey almost beat me Friday, but his car had a problem."

Setters headed to Big Sky Speedway on Saturday.

"We had a little bit of problems in the heat race and didn't finish," he said. "Instead of a B Main they ran a six-car dash, which we won."

Setters advanced from fifth to win the dash. He then maneuvered through the field to place 12th in the A Main.

"It was a good night," he said. "The Slade shocks worked really well. I love Tony Borello's racing engines. That thing ripped."

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Two New Tracks Set Stage For Exciting Weekend Points battle continues to stay tight with three months of racing to go

ORRVILLE, OH – July 28, 2020 – After an exhilarating month of racing in July, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will kick off August by visiting two new tracks recently added to the 2020 schedule.

The Series will make its return to Wayne County Speedway for the first time since 1985 on Sat., Aug. 1 and then make the trip to Plymouth Speedway on Sun., Aug. 2. – its first time back to the Indiana track since 2017.

The two 3/8-mile tracks will set the stage for a thrilling doubleheader weekend – with $10,000-to-win on the line both nights – to kick off the final half of the season with five drivers still in the hunt for the championship.

If you can’t make it to the races, you can still watch all of the action live on DIRTVision.

Here are the top storylines to follow this weekend:

POINTS SHAKE UP: Reigning champion Brad Sweet enters the doubleheader weekend as the current points leader, but last week showed how quickly that can change.

Ten-time World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz began the PA Swing last week by taking the points lead after earning his third win of the year at Lernerville Speedway. Four days later, he lost it to Sweet, and second-place to Logan Schuchart, after suffering a rare DNF at Williams Grove Speedway. Sweet – who has a win at Plymouth Speedway in 2016 – now holds an 18-point lead over Schuchart and a 26-point lead over Schatz.

The team championship points battle is even more intense with Jason Johnson Racing in the mix – thanks to Parker Price-Miller filling in for David Gravel when he missed a race during the DIRTcar Nationals. Sweet’s Kasey Kahne Racing team is 18 points ahead of Shark Racing and 26 points ahead of Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing and JJR.

HAUD’S HOME: The origin to Sheldon Haudenschild’s racing career can’t be told without mentioning Wayne County Speedway, which is only 15 minutes away from his hometown of Wooster, OH. While he’s yet to run a World of Outlaws event at the 3/8-mile track, Haudenschild has seven wins there – two with the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Cars and five with the All Star Circuit of Champions.

Haudenschild enters the weekend with the momentum of having won his first race of 2020 at Lincoln Speedway with his NOS Energy Drink Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing team. And before suffering a rear end issue at Williams Grove Speedway, Haudenschild was on a hot streak of 18 top-10 finishes in a row.

ALLEN IMPROVES: Jacob Allen, of Hanover, PA, is having one of the best season of his career in 2020, currently sitting ninth in points – the highest he’s been in the standings with four top-five finishes and nine top-10s.

He earned his first podium finish since April of 2019 with a third-place run at Lincoln Speedway – after leading the first 14 laps. And then backed it up with a top-five finish during the Summer Nationals finale at Williams Grove Speedway. He’ll look to keep that momentum going this weekend.

GRAVEL GAINS: David Gravel, of Watertown, CT, is on a hot streak of his own with two wins in the last seven races – including his recent Summer Nationals wins at Williams Grove Speedway – and 11 top-10 finishes in a row.

He’s the last driver to win a World of Outlaws race at Plymouth Speedway in 2017. And while he’s out of the hunt for the driver’s championship, he’s put his Jason Johnson Racing team in contention for the team championship – currently 26 points back from the lead.

WINNERS STREAK: July saw a diverse group for winners with several first-time winners for the season and eight different winners in a row. Reigning champion Brad Sweet and David Gravel were the only drivers to win repeat races during the month.

Sweet opened the month by sweeping the weekend at the 3/8-mile Cedar Lake Speedway. Gravel picked up the “W” at Wilmot Raceway and Williams Grove Speedway. Parker Price-Miller – who will look for a home state win at Plymouth Speedway – Sheldon Haudenschild and Shane Stewart all won their first race of the season. Logan Schuchart earned his fifth win of the year at Terre Haute Speedway. The next night, Kyle Larson earned his fourth win of the year during the Brad Doty Classic. And Donny Schatz earned his third win of the season during the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup.

12 Days. 7 Shows. 4 Tracks. 3 States. 1 epic stretch.

That's what awaits the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series as we look to close out July and head into August. Traveling from Iowa to Indiana and up to Wisconsin, "The Most Powerful Late Models on the Planet" will compete for over $400,000 in purse payout (view purses at bottom) across seven nights of racing.

It all begins tonight, Tuesday, July 28, with a return to Davenport (IA) Speedway's quarter-mile track for a $10,000-to-win midweek special. This Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1, Kokomo (IN) Speedway debuts on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series schedule with a unique, PDC-like, two-day "Hoosier Dirt Shootout" which pays $25,000-to-win and $1,500-to-start. Rolling into August, another edition of Tuesday night lights on August 4 takes the Outlaws to Beaver Dam (WI) Raceway, and then it's all eyes on the mega, three-day $50,000-to-win, $3,000-to start "USA Nationals" at Cedar Lake (WI) Speedway.

Davenport Speedway (7/28) TICKETS

Hoosier Dirt Shootout (7/31-8/1) TICKETS

Beaver Dam Raceway (8/4) TICKETS

USA Nationals (8/6-8) TICKETS

The 12-day stretch opens tonight with a Tuesday night appearance at Iowa's Davenport Speedway. Running on the infield 1/4-mile, the Outlaws will look to duplicate May's jaw-dropping duel between Brandon Sheppard and Ricky Thornton Jr. on the small track. Along with the full-time touring crew, outside sensations such as Jimmy Owens, Shane Clanton, Bobby Pierce, and many more will look to steal the $10,000-to-win, 50-lap feature at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds.

After two days off, the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Models will return to action on Friday and Saturday with a unique, one-off event at Indiana's Kokomo Speedway - The Hoosier Dirt Showdown. Taking place of Fairbury's Prairie Dirt Classic (rescheduled to 2021), the Hoosier Dirt Showdown will feature a format identical to the PDC with qualifying and showdown features on Friday followed by a $25,000-to-win, $1,500-to-start, 75-lap main event on Saturday night.

Next Tuesday, August 4, the World of Outlaws head back to Wisconsin's Beaver Dam Raceway for the first time in 11 years with another $10,000-to-win midweek feature. Previous winners at the Beaver Dam 3/8th-mile include Dennis Erb Jr. in 2007 and Jason Feger in 2009.

From Thursday-Saturday, August 6-8, the 33rd annual USA Nationals take center stage with the eyes of the Dirt Late Model Racing world turned to Cedar Lake Speedway. Following a $6,000-to-win preliminary program on Thursday, a series of heat races on Friday will lead into a huge Saturday night finale with a 100-lap main event paying $50,000-to-win, $3,000-to-start.

With 25 features in the books, Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, IL remains atop the point standings (+192) chasing his third World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series championship in four years with Rocket1 Racing.

Ricky Weiss of Headingley, MAN has held the second spot for most of 2020 and sits -192 points behind B-Shepp with two wins and 14 top five finishes aboard his Drydene Performance Products No. 7. Three-time World of Outlaws champion, Darrell Lanigan of Union, KY, has his Viper Motorsports, Barry Wright ICON Race Car No. 29V third in standings (-252) after his most recent win at Red River Valley (ND) Speedway two weeks ago.

Sophomore sensation Cade Dillard of Robeline, LA has roared his program to life this year with two wins and 10 top five results for the MB Customs No. 97, a season strong enough to put him at a career-best fourth in points (-288). Chase Junghans of Manhattan, KS has been a model of consistency with 19 top ten efforts to place his Shop Quik, Rocket Chassis No. 18 fifth in the points (-314).

Closing out the top ten in current World of Outlaws Late Model Series standings is Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, IL (-394), Scott Bloomquist (-428), Ashton Winger (-452), Boom Briggs (-730) and Brent Larson (-772).

"We worked out some bugs throughout the night and figured out where we need to be better," he said. "We qualified strong. In the heat race we had a little stumble on the start. It cost us a spot, but we were able to make it back to fourth."

Scelzi timed in fifth quickest in his group. A fourth-place run in the heat race lined Scelzi up on the inside of the sixth row for the main event.

"We fixed the stumble for the main event and were able to go from 11 th to third," he said. "The car felt really good. We had good speed. There's some small things we have to work on to dial in for the 360 Nationals, but I was really pleased with last Saturday."

The third-place effort marked Scelzi's 11th top five of the season.

His focus now shifts to four straight Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 races this weekend. It begins on Thursday at Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., for the Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race. Next up is a race on Friday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, before Knoxville Raceway hosts an event on Saturday. Huset's Speedway in Brandon, S.D., re-opens on Sunday.

This weekend will be Scelzi's debut at Plymouth Dirt Track and at Huset's Speedway. Both events pay at least $20,000 to win.

"I'm super excited," he said. "The last time we ran with the All Stars we had some good runs. Any time you can run four nights in a row it seems you can get some momentum going. I feel like I can get around Knoxville well and I feel comfortable at 34 Raceway. Hopefully we can make all four nights really successful."

Kerry Madsen Secures Second-Place Showing at Knoxville Raceway

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 27, 2020) - Kerry Madsen tied his season-best result last Saturday during a rare 360ci sprint car start at Knoxville Raceway.

The Killer Instinct Crossbows sponsored competitor guided Big Game Motorsports to the second quickest qualifying time in their group. Madsen then maneuvered from sixth to fourth place in a heat race and from sixth to second place in the A Main.

"I didn't know what to expect, but that thing is a Cadillac," he said. "We qualified well and in the A Main it raced really well. We got unlucky with the way the cautions fell a couple of times when we passed cars, but a caution came out to give them their spot back. We passed a lot of cars and we had a strong run at the end. That was a nice warmup for the 360 Knoxville Nationals."

Madsen didn't fare as well in two 410ci sprint car starts, placing 14 th on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway and on Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., during the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.

"We tore the car up at Port Royal earlier this month and it hasn't felt the same," he said. "It just didn't go well in the A Main at Lernerville. It was pretty disappointing. We expected to go forward.

"Saturday was sort of the same thing. We didn't perform as well as we should have by any stretch of the imagination. I don't know why. We've been pretty good there. We're going to put a new car together this week."

Madsen plans on competing on Thursday at Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., during the Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race; on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway; and on Sunday at Huset's Speedway in Brandon, S.D., with the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1.

Sides Earns Hard Charger Award After Rallying for Season-Best Result at Lernerville

Inside Line Promotions - MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (July 27, 2020) - Jason Sides had to overcome a tough starting position, an early crash and two trips to the work area before he secured his best result of the season last Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway.

Sides qualified 11th quickest, placed sixth in a heat race and won the Last Chance Showdown to lock into the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series main event during the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup.

"We got going good in the feature," he said. "I'm not sure what happened to Hunter (Schuerenberg), but when I came around somebody darted to the inside of him and bam there he was. It smashed the header flat. I think that's about all it tore up, but the engine was barely running. I went to the work area. Nobody carries a spare header. My plan was to push back off, let Gravy get one and then on the next caution come in. We had a quick caution and they got it changed and it was good that we did."

Sides restarted at the back of the field and used the bottom groove to his advantage, rallying from last to a seventh-place result. He also earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

"I never went to the top once," he said. "We could get off the bottom and it was pretty good down there. Once we got going we could catch the guys. They'd either slip up or try to run the top and we'd get by. I want to thank everyone for their help in the work area because I'm really glad we were able to get back out to finish the race."

Sides then headed to Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., on Thursday. He qualified 10th quickest in his group and finished fifth in a heat race to lock into the A Main. Sides gained a few positions in the feature to place 15th.

"We were happy just to make that show," he said. "We got out of there without any problems and moved forward so it was a good night."

Unfortunately, mechanical woes hampered him during both nights at the Champion Racing Oil Summer Nationals hosted by Williams Grove Speedway last weekend.

Sides returns to action with the World of Outlaws this Saturday at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, and Sunday at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind.

Starks Seals Deal at Skagit Before Producing Top 10 at Knoxville

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 27, 2020) - Trey Starks delivered his first feature triumph of the season last Thursday at Skagit Speedway.

Starks guided his family owned sprint car to the second quickest time in qualifying. A third-place run in a heat race lined him up on the inside of the second row for the main event.

"We were close a couple of weeks ago and it was the same deal Thursday as we had speed all night," he said. "We went out late in qualifying and went second quick. We had a solid car and went fourth to third in our heat race. That gave us a decent starting spot for the feature. We didn't change a lot all night.

"We got the lead on the first lap of the feature. The two cars in front went to the top and I made the bottom work. I got the lead going into turn three. I tried to set it on cruise control and move through lapped cars as good as I could. We had one restart. Other than that it was smooth sailing. It was nice to race back at home and get a win."

Starks led the distance to score his first win at Skagit Speedway since June 2016.

He then headed to the Midwest to join Gobrecht Motorsports at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday. Starks qualified third quickest to kick off the action.

"A couple of weeks ago we switched our car to one from last year and we really started to put speed together," he said. "Then it was a disappointment because we ended up wrecking the car last week and hurting the frame. We were getting comfortable with that car just in time to switch it. We were trying to figure out what car to go to. We pulled down last year's Knoxville Nationals car and put that together. It ended up working out pretty well.

"We had good speed in qualifying. In the heat race we got bottled up on the start and it was really hard to pass. We got shuffled back to eighth, which didn't give us great points. We started seventh in the feature and ran eighth pretty much the whole race. We had good cars in front of us in my sights the whole time, but I wasn't quite good enough to pick up any positions. It was a stout field last weekend with guys tuning up for the races coming up. It felt good to get a solid night in with decent speed."

Starks' eighth-place run was his 10th top 10 of the season. He continues to rank ninth in the championship standings.

Next up for Gobrecht Motorsports is a trio of Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 races - Friday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa; Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa; and Sunday at Huset's Speedway in Brandon, S.D.

Kaleb Johnson Shows Speed During Pair of Iowa Runs

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 27, 2020) - Kaleb Johnson displayed plenty of speed during a pair of races in Iowa last week.

Johnson made his first visit of the year to Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids on Tuesday for a Midwest Sprint Touring Series event. He started on the pole of his heat race and pulled away for the win.

"I knew I had to win the race to get a decent starting spot in the feature," he said. "I was able to take the lead early and wasn't challenged."

The heat race victory placed him in the computerized feature redraw and he started sixth in the night's main event.

"I rode around in fifth or sixth for a while, then the track started laying rubber around the top of turns one and two," he said. "We were in lapped traffic with about eight or nine laps to go and I tried putting a slider on the fourth-place car. There was a lapped car on the bottom. I drove it a little too hard and had to get out of it a bit. I hit the rubber and it sent me off the track. I lost about four spots and ended up finishing ninth.

"It wasn't too bad considering what happened. There were some good cars there and it was good to know that we were able to compete with most of them."

Johnson ventured to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday. He's enjoying a solid season at the half-mile oval thus far, entering Saturday night ranked fifth in points with a sizable lead in the Rookie of the Year race.

"With 360 Knoxville Nationals coming up in a couple of weeks we wanted to try something different with the car in time trials and find out if it worked," said Johnson, who timed in 16th quickest out of 23 cars in his group. "Unfortunately, it didn't really work out. That was disappointing, but at least we found out it didn't work now rather than when there's more on the line. We missed the heat race invert and that put us in a hole for the rest of the night."

Johnson battled to advance from eighth to sixth in his race and then from 11th to fifth in the B Main, finishing one spot short of transferring to the A Main. It marked the first time he failed to qualify for the main event at the track this year.

"We moved forward in both races and I feel that we could've made the transfer spot in the B Main if we had another lap or two," he said. "Ten laps go by pretty fast. Not that it matters a lot, but we turned the fastest lap other than the leader in both our heat and the B Main. So probably the most encouraging thing we learned at Knoxville was that we can be fast in dirty air."

Johnson will return to Knoxville Raceway this Saturday.

Giovanni Scelzi Garners Second-Place Showing During Second Start With KCP Racing

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 27, 2020) - Giovanni Scelzi produced a runner-up result during only his second start behind the wheel of the KCP Racing No. 18.

A partnership between the 18-year-old and the top-notch sprint car organization was created early last week, giving Scelzi an opportunity to race in marquee events throughout the Midwest and East Coast while still prioritizing his prospects on pavement.

"It's an opportunity I couldn't pass up," he said. "They know how to win races. You have all of the tools and everything possible to win. It's up to me to make it happen. Me and Tyler (Swank) worked well together the first two races last week. It's about talking to each other. Communication is the biggest thing in racing. I think we're going in the right direction."

Scelzi made his debut with the team last Tuesday during the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series' Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup hosted by Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa. He qualified seventh quickest in his group, placed fourth in a heat race and ended the night 20 th in the feature after pulling off early.

"I didn't know what to think going into the night," he said. "It's a first night with a new team, new guys, new everything. It was also my first time at that track. We came in in one piece so that's positive."

The team headed to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday and speed was evident from hot laps. Scelzi qualified second quickest and he gained two positions in a heat race to finish fourth.

"Knoxville is a place I'm really comfortable at," he said. "I felt like I had a car that could win the race. We were the high-point driver going into the main and the inversion was six so we started sixth. In hindsight I needed to run the bottom a little better. Toward the end of the race I started figuring it out. I drove by Ian (Madsen) and passed Austin (McCarl) with two laps to go for second.

"It's huge. I feel comfortable. I really like Tyler and Adam, who work on the car. We have the tools a driver could want so I'm looking forward to the future."

Scelzi plans on racing this Thursday at Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., during the Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race; Friday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa; Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa; and Sunday at Huset's Speedway in Brandon, S.D., with the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1.

2020 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: 3568 points | third (26-points behind championship leader, Brad Sweet)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (July 27, 2020) – Despite some mechanical misfortune during Williams Grove Speedway’s Summer Nationals finale on Saturday, July 25, ultimately forcing the ten-time World of Outlaws champion to retire early from main event competition, Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz put together a sound week in the Keystone State, highlighting all starts with a $25,000 victory at Lernerville Speedway on Tuesday, July 21.

Lining up sixth on the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup main event grid, Schatz battled his way forward in a hurry and took command for the first time on lap seven. Forced to battle back and forth with open wheel hotshot Kyle Larson and defending Series champion Brad Sweet, the driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing entry would prevail, eventually leading the final lap to score the monster five-figure payday; Schtaz’ seventh Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup title.

“It’s awesome to win the Silver Cup,” said Schatz on Tuesday night in Lernerville victory lane. “Third win of the year. Normally we’d like to have more, but we’re not going to get greedy. We’re going to keep racing the way we are and keep going.

“It’s fun to race like that,” Schatz continued. “Those guys are good. That’s what you guys pay to see. My crew did a great job. I think what won us that race is figuring out how to run the racetrack early in the race. I got hanging there at the end and had to move around. I got to traffic, and I wasn’t good on the bottom. The 49 could get down there. The 57 could go there. But that’s what ultimately won us the race. Those guys were choking down around there and we could carry speed through (Turns) three and four.”

In addition to his win at Lernerville Speedway, Donny Schatz scored a seventh-place finish at the ‘Fabulous’ Lincoln Speedway on Thursday, July 23, followed by a runner-up performance during Williams Grove Speedway’s Summer Nationals opener on Friday, July 24.

Although scoring a trio of top-notch outcomes, Schatz’ ‘DNF’ during the Summer Nationals finale would bump the three-time winner in 2020 back to third in the World of Outlaws championship standings.

Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their 2020 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship seeking campaign with an Ohio/Indiana doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday, August 1-2. The Greatest Show On Dirt will visit Orrville, Ohio’s Wayne County Speedway on Saturday, followed by a stop at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Indiana, on Sunday. Each event will award $10,000 top prizes.

Track: Jacksonville Speedway (Jacksonville, Illinois)
Rico Abreu A-Main Finish (Start): 1st (9th)

Date: Saturday, July 25th

Series: Open
Track: Knoxville Raceway (Knoxville, Iowa)
Rico Abreu A-Main Finish (Start): 5th (10th)

ST. HELENA, Calif. (July 27, 2020) – Winning has been an ongoing trend for St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu, and for the second time in 2020, Abreu found himself in Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) victory lane, this time during action at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois, on Friday, July 24.

Aided by some tough luck that fell upon the race leader, Abreu inherited the top spot at Jacksonville with just one circuit remaining, ultimately surviving a one lap dash to the finish with Sikeston, Missouri’s Hunter Schuerenberg in tow.

Abreu started ninth on the main event grid, driving on to secure his fourth Jacksonville Speedway victory in as many attempts, as well as his fifth feature win of the season.

Although not concluding his weekend with a second consecutive trip to Knoxville Raceway victory lane, Abreu made the most of his visit to the Sprint Car Capital of the World and ended his evening with a fifth-place performance after starting tenth on the grid. A fourth-place finish during heat race competition secured his spot on the feature starting lineup.

With all results considered, Abreu now owns 18 top-ten finishes thus far in 2020, 15 of which were scored inside the top-five. Abreu’s five victories have been accomplished at five different venues; Lincoln (Pa.) Speedway, Muskingum County Speedway, Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway, Knoxville Raceway, and Jacksonville Speedway.

“I can’t say enough about my team right now. Things are definitely clicking. I’m not sure we were the fastest car on Friday at Jacksonville, but sometimes being in the next best spot will work out in your favor. We were in a prime position and we took advantage of the winning opportunity presented to us,” Rico Abreu said, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Salty’s BBQ/Priority Aviation/Self Made Racing/Whistle Stop Bar and Grill/Stadelhofer Construction/No. 24 sprint car. “We have a lot of racing on our agenda over the next few weeks. We want to do whatever we can to keep this momentum going.”
