Hill Posts Career-Best Knoxville Raceway Finish

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 7, 2020) - Alex Hill enjoyed her career-best Knoxville Raceway result among a large and strong field of cars last Saturday night during the second night of a doubleheader at the track.

"Daryl gave me a really fast car," said Hill, who ran in the top 10 for much of the race before eventually finishing 16th. "James Fisher, Charlie's son, also gave me a little driving advice and that seemed to help, too."

Hill began her night by qualifying 10th quickest in the 38-car field.

"We were happy with our qualifying run, especially since it's so important to qualify well at Knoxville," she said. "We race quite a bit, but we rarely do time trials anywhere other than Knoxville so we're especially happy to qualify in the top 10."

Hill started third in her heat race.

"I actually dropped back to sixth early in the race, but the car was awesome on the bottom of the track and I was able to pass some cars and finish third," she said.

Hill rolled off ninth in the 24-car A Main.

"Our car was great and I was able to run in the top 10 for most of the race," she said. "Unfortunately, we had several restarts late in the race. They seemed to take me out of my rhythm and kind of messed with my head a bit. Looking back, I was also probably entering the corners too hard later in the race when the track slowed down."

Hill's evening on Friday didn't begin as well as Saturday and placed her in a hole she was unable to climb from the rest of the evening.

"Friday was disappointing because we felt we had a really good car in hot laps," she said. "We were 10th quickest. But the car was a little off in qualifying and I made some mistakes, too. We timed in 29 th (of 41) and missed the invert for the heat races.

"We went from eighth to sixth in our heat race. We started ninth in the B Main and that's where we finished. We just started too deep in each race to be able to do much."

Next up, Hill will return to competition with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour with her first-ever visit to Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., this Saturday.
