KENNY EDKIN SCORES 6TH SUPER SPORTSMAN VICTORY/TROY MILLER WINS HISTORIC LATE MODEL 50

YORK HAVEN, Pa: Forget Kenny Edkin’s wins over the last two months, he hasn’t felt comfortable or been happy with his car.

So on Wednesday, Edkin trekked to BAPS Motor Speedway for a Test-and-Tune session. The team found a couple of things and implemented them on Saturday night in the BAPS Super Sportsman main event.

The results were glaring. Edkin charged from 10th to the lead in seven laps and stormed away from the field for a dominating and easy victory in the 25-lap feature. It was his sixth win of the season and 23rd at the speedway in the division.

“That was pretty fun,” Edkin said. “We were down here Wednesday night testing, because I haven’t been very happy with the car for about two months. We just haven’t been very good.

“We won a couple of weeks ago, but I couldn’t move off the top. Tonight, I was able to go where I wanted. We were the only Sportsman down here testing on Wednesday, so if you want to win, you better put in the work.”

There was plenty of work going on for Edkin in this one. He burst into the top five in short order and wasted little time dicing with the frontrunners.

Tyler Wolford started on the outside pole and led the first two laps before rolling to a stop in Turn 2 on Lap 3. Luke Detrick took over, but his lead was short-lived, as Edkin blasted by on the seventh circuit.

Once out front, Edkin stretched his lead. He could maneuver high and low on the speedway and had little trouble mowing down lapped cars.

“I was able to keep a pretty steady pace, there,” Edkin said. “I caught three guys that were all racing each other ... when you are out front in these things, you don’t know if you are leading by a tenth of a second or 10 seconds.

“You just got to keep going, keep clipping, keep clipping, and act like someone is on your rear bumper. So, I did what I needed to do.”

There was no catching Edkin. He ran away and hid over the final 20 circuits, lapping into the top 10 and amassing a margin of victory of 9.93 seconds.

John Edkin came away with a second-place finish after starting seventh. Deatrick, Mike Enders, and Steve Fannasy completed the top five.

“This is the first time we’ve done that as a team, so that is pretty exciting,” said Edkin about his brother and their one-two finish. “He has been getting really fast. To be honest, I think he has been faster than me the last couple of weeks.

“I don’t know if it’s something in the car we can’t find or what. I’ve been uncomfortable, to say the least. We tried something new tonight. We came down and tested Wednesday, and I think we kind of found our mojo again and are going to keep adjusting from there.”

Troy Miller topped the field in the Creekside Auto Sales Late Model 50, leading the last half of the event to claim the victory.

Matt Murphy started on the outside pole and jumped out front. Daulton Bigler, who started on the pole, wrestled the top spot away on Lap 2 and maintained the position through Lap 14.

Murphy was back out front on Lap 15 before stopping on the speedway on Lap 24. Miller, who started sixth, took over on Lap 25 and led the rest of the way to take the win over Chase Billet, Shaun Miller, Joe Lusk, and Bigler.

Wayne Pfeil, Shaun Miller, and Billet were heat winners and received $100 from Superior Homes. Murphy received the IDF Hard Luck Award worth $50, and Drew Weisser earned $100 Hard Charger honors from Superior Homes.

In Mike’s Towing and Recovery/Frankie’s Used Auto Parts Street Stock action, Brian Walls earned the victory.

Walls started fourth on the grid and took the lead from Jasen Geesaman on Lap 5 and stormed to the win. Ryan Smith followed Walls and Geesaman, with Eric Tripp and Greg Diehl completing the top five.

Patrick McClane advanced from 12th to the win in the 20-lap Superior Homes Extreme Stock main event.

Keith Bissinger took the lead at the start and led the first two circuits. Travis Horan took over on Lap 5 but was passed by Bissinger on Lap 6.

McClane made short work of the field, charging past Bissinger on Lap 11. He led the rest of the way and took the win over Bissinger, Horan, Donnie Broderick, and Austin Hogue.
