ELDORA TAMER: Marks and CJB Take Night One of Governors Reign September closes with even more strong finishes as Grove point battle tightens

CARLISLE, PA. - September 29, 2020 - It would generally be unthinkable to put on a race of over 40 of the best sprint car drivers in the world at one of the marquee facilities in the world without fans in the stands............ but this is 2020.

Brent Marks and the CJB Motorsports team made their way to Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio on Tuesday, September 22nd and Wednesday September 23rd to contest the Governors Reign, an invite only event put on for a live streaming audience at home. On the opening night, the team timed in first in their group, finished fourth in their heat race and second in the dash before claiming victory in the feature.

Marks was off to a fast start the following night as he timed in fourth in his group, won his heat race and the his dash before coming home fourth in the feature.

Friday, September 25th saw the team trying to chase down Freddie Rahmer for the Williams Grove Speedway track championship. Marks, 145 points back, continued to show a veterans prowess as he timed in 13th, finished third in his heat race and third in the feature.

The week of racing and the month of September wrapped up for the CJB crew with the Jim Nace Memorial at Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway. Marks timed in seventh, finished second in his heat race and was running in the top-5 before tire failure with four laps to go sent him to the work area. The team rallied to finish eighth.

"Eldora was great," said Marks, pilot of the #5 M&M Painting and Construction, BAPS Paints, Fredericksburg Eagle Hotel, Alkaline 88 Water, R.E. Pierson Construction Co., Wolfrun Landscapes, Nyce, Crete & Landis Block and Concrete, C&S Lawn and Landscape, Ecynbro Trucking machine. "Both nights were good and the whole team did a great job. We had a lot of speed and was in contention to win on night two, as well. We just fell a bit short but with it being my first time at Eldora with CJB, I am really proud of our performance. We had fast cars all week. Another top three at Williams Grove and was running top five at Selinsgrove until our right rear tire blew at the end."

The team now has the month of October to look forward to. Up first is one of the crown jewels of the sport; the Champion Racing Oil National Open at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday and Saturday, October 2nd and 3rd. The CJB team will be looking for victory in an event both car and driver have won.

"Our car is really strong," said Marks, the 2019 winner of the National Open. "I believe we have what it takes to win the National Open. I need to get qualified and just have solid nights. Our car is more than good enough to win those races. We just need everything to go well."

Kerry Madsen Captures Top Fives With All Stars and World of Outlaws

Inside Line Promotions - LERNERVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 29, 2020) - Kerry Madsen produced a pair of top fives and three top 10s during four races last week.

The Killer Instinct Crossbows sponsored driver guided Big Game Motorsports to a runner-up result a week ago Tuesday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, during the opening night of the Governors Reign with the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1. It was the best run of the week and marked Madsen's fifth top five of the season with the All Stars.

"I feel like we were really quick each night," he said. "In the Eldora deal we ran second and passed Brent Marks for the lead with two laps to go and he got back by. We were coming on good and reeling him in. I slid him in turns one and two. He turned down under it and found some grip down the backstretch. It was a really good run for us."

Madsen qualified fifth quickest, placed fourth in a heat race and won a dash prior to the podium performance in the feature.

He timed in 20th quickest the ensuing night during the event finale before winning a heat race to make the dash.

"The second night we put ourselves in a dash, but drew a really big number," he said. "We finished sixth, which started us 12th in the feature. We had a really good car in the A Main. I felt like we were a lot better than eighth. If we drew a little nicer toward the front of a dash, who knows. When you start that deep you need a dream run to get up through there."

Madsen gained a handful of positions to finish eighth.

Big Game Motorsports joined the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series for two races last weekend beginning on Friday at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio. Madsen qualified fourth quickest and won a heat race to make the dash. A seventh-place outing in the dash lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.

"We had a good run going and then got a left front flat tire," he said. "It was pretty hard to pass there. We were running around where we started, gaining a spot and losing a spot here and there. One of the guys we were racing with and I had minor contact and it popped the left front. We had to go to the work area."

Madsen restarted at the back of the field and advanced to a 17th -place finish.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Lernerville Speedway, which hosted the Commonweath Clash. Madsen qualified second quickest in his group and won both a heat race and the dash to garner the pole position for the main event.

"We were really good," he said. "We qualified well and were really good in the heat. I felt like we were really strong in the dash, too. They did some track prep before the A Main. Starting on the bottom was a disadvantage because it was greasy so we lost a couple of spots right away. On the longer run we lost some pace. We had a yellow with two laps to go and our car came back alive. It was disappointing to end fifth. I thought we had a better car."

Madsen's fifth-place result was his fifth top five of the season with the World of Outlaws.

He will return to action this week with the Outlaws during the 58 th annual Champion Racing Oil National Open at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. The event on Friday and Saturday culminates with a $75,000 top prize, making it the highest-paying winner's share in sprint car racing this year.

"I feel like we have good pace at Williams Grove," Madsen said. "Whoever wins is going to have to have a dream night in terms of getting yourself in position. If you can get yourself in position then you have a shot. We race well there so I think we have a legitimate shot to win."

Carney II Aiming to Top Last Year's Career-Best Performance at Short Track Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - LUBBOCK, Texas (Sept. 29, 2020) - John Carney II enjoyed a career-best run during the famed COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires last year.

The SawBlade.com Xiphos saw blade sponsored competitor finished second during the preliminary night before earning a third-place outing at the finale of the marquee event hosted by I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.

"I think last year at this race we started on the pole the first night so we were high point and we ran second," Carney II said. "We made the dash and ran fourth in it during the second night. I actually led probably 10 or 12 laps in the feature. We ended up with a third so I'm certainly looking to improve on that."

Carney II will return to the bullring this Friday and Saturday for the 33 rd edition of the event, which is sanctioned by the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

"We've always had a fast car there," he said. "Sometimes it's a matter of not getting tangled up with someone early in the night. It's not where you start in the heat race; it's who you start with. You always want to have one or two cars that you feel like you can pass. The biggest thing is not getting together with anyone in the heat race or the qualifier because that will ruin your weekend."

Carney II has visited I-30 Speedway twice this year. He was in contention for a top five and potentially a win during a start in June before contact resulted in a DNF. Carney II advanced from 20th to 13 th during his most recent visit in August.

Crockett Set for Third Career Short Track Nationals Start

Inside Line Promotions - BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (Sept. 29, 2020) - Roger Crockett will make his first COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires appearance since 2013 and just the third of his career this weekend.

Crockett is heading to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the 33 rd edition of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event that runs Friday and Saturday.

"I actually haven't raced at that track very many times," he said. "I've maybe been there five times. I think we ran a Speedweek race with Paul (Silva) and then the Short Track Nationals in 2004."

Crockett placed third during a preliminary night at the 2004 Short Track Nationals and he recorded his career-best result at I-30 Speedway the following year when he finished second. Crockett added another top five when he hustled to a fourth-place showing at the bullring in June.

"Earlier in the year we were really good there," he said. "We're looking back at our notes and will head to the track the same way. Hopefully the track is similar throughout the course of the weekend. It was a lot of fun earlier in the year.

"The first time I went there I lived on the West Coast still and it was a super easy transition. Since I've been away from California I haven't done as much of that style of racing. People are a lot more aggressive now. That part of the racing has changed a bit. Sometimes there's wheel to wheel contact that I'm not into, but sometimes you have to be prepared to bang wheels."

Crockett enters the event ranked second in the ASCS National Tour championship standings with four nights of racing remaining this year. He is seeking his first win of the season and first-ever victory at I-30 Speedway.

"Your car has to be really good and maneuverable in an event like this," he said. "You have to have a few things go your way with a high car count like it will be as well."

West Jr. Ties Career-Best Sprint Car Result With Seventh-Place Outing

Inside Line Promotions - WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Sept. 29, 2020) - Jeffrey West Jr. tied his career-best sprint car result last Sunday when he recorded a seventh-place finish at Riverside International Speedway.

West Jr. opened the Fall Nationals, which was held on Sunday instead of Saturday because of wet weather, by finishing where he started - second - in a heat race.

"The track threw us a huge curve ball the moment we got there," he said. "We started hot laps a couple of hours earlier than a usual race because it was on Sunday. By the time we went out for our heat race the track was slick from top to bottom. We didn't expect that. We just didn't quite have what we needed, but we were able to make the best of it.

"I fell back to fifth in the heat race. Two cars wrecked and I was able to get back to second on a late restart."

West Jr. lined up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

"We were decent and not far off the leaders," he said. "The first 10 laps we stayed in the top five. As the feature went on our car went in the wrong direction and we faded. We tried some different lines. I got really good running the cushion in turns three and four, which was my first time doing that. That felt good. We had a caution with about 10 laps to go. Jeff Swindell and I battled for five or six laps and he got me toward the end. I'm very happy with a top seven with our car handling like it did."

The seventh-place finish marked the third top 10 of the season for West Jr., who is in his first year behind the wheel of a 360ci winged sprint car.

Next up is the 33rd annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires this Friday and Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. It will mark his third time racing with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. West Jr. earned a 17th-place result during his series debut at I-30 Speedway in June and he recorded a career-best 11 th-place showing with the series at Riverside International Speedway in July.

"For this weekend I don't have any expectations," he said. "I want to go there and do the best I can and soak up as much experience as I can. If we could make the A Main that'd be huge, but that's going to be really hard to do. We'll give it our best shot and that's all we can do."

Hagar Rallies From Flip in Heat Race to Win Feature From 15 th

Inside Line Promotions - WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Sept. 29, 2020) - Last Sunday featured a dramatic swing for Derek Hagar, who capped a night at Riverside International Speedway by posting his seventh feature victory of the season.

The Fall Nationals, which was postponed from Saturday to Sunday because of wet weather, began with Hagar lining up on the outside of the third row in a heat race.

"I got up to third," he said. "The racing was right around the bottom. I was on the guy in second and I nudged a rear bumper a couple of times to try to stay with him to carry momentum to get him in the corner. On the last lap he slipped off the bottom. I got underneath him and he crowded me. We rubbed wheels and he backed off. Then going into turn three he gassed it back up and ran into us. We ended up tipping over."

The contact made Hagar's car get upside down and he was unable to finish the race, which relegated him to the back of the starting lineup for the main event.

"I wasn't even going to run because I'm pretty much out of wings," he said. "I got undressed and in my street clothes. I was helping one of my 305 customers. I walked to the trailer and Bill, my crew guy, asked if he puts wings on it will I race it and I said yes.

"By Lap 15 I was up to third before a red came out. We really didn't need a caution or red because our car was great. On the restart the drivers in first and second went down to the bottom. I was up against the concrete and drove around them in turns three and four. We led the last 15 laps.

"Early in the race I was in the middle, bottom, top, wherever I could pass cars. Once I got clear track in front of me I moved to the top. It was so far around the top if I'd have moved up half an inch I would have been throwing sparks off the rear bumper. The track was slick from top to bottom with no cushion."

Hagar's charge from 15th to win also earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

"It was special," he said. "It was a life lesson I hope for a kid or whoever is watching in the stands to never give up. We went from the lowest of lows in the heat race to the highest of highs in the feature. You never give up until that checkered flag waves and don't worry about the people trying to drag you down."

Hagar will ride that momentum into the 33rd annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires this Friday and Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event pays $10,041 to win the finale. Hagar was victorious at the track in July, giving him a win at I-30 Speedway in five straight seasons and during six of the last seven years.

"We're going with a clear mind to win $10,000," he said. "We won the prelim night last year and didn't have too bad of a night on that Saturday deal. This new motor combination that Ricky Stenhouse and my dad, Kenny, came up with is unbelievable. I'm excited to go there and put our name in the hunt."

Sams III Excited to Make Short Track Nationals Debut This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - NORTH PORT, Fla. (Sept. 29, 2020) - Danny Sams III is checking a bucket list item off this weekend when he tackles the 33 rd annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires.

The Sams LaMountain Racing driver made his debut at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., in June and will return to the oval this Friday and Saturday for one of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour's marquee events.

"It's super cool to be able to go to these big races and to be part of it," Sams III said. "I believe we learned a lot the last time. We had plenty of speed. A mishap in the B Main cost us a shot at making the feature, but I think we had a competitive car."

Sams III enters this weekend ranked 10th in the ASCS National Tour championship standings and he is in contention for the Rookie of the Year Award as the series only has four remaining races in 2020.

The Short Track Nationals is one of 360ci winged sprint car racing's biggest shows. The winner's share from the Saturday finale is $10,041, which is one of the highest in the division. The event routinely draws several dozen competitors from across the country seeking the stout payout as well as bragging rights.

"If we carry the momentum we gained two weekends ago hopefully we can make the show," he said. "We definitely have gained a lot of experience at these tracks that are new to us. We have a full notebook and it's great to return to tracks not starting out chasing a setup. Hopefully we can take another step forward this weekend."

HOMEGROWN HERO: Albany-Saratoga DIRTcar Pro Stock Racer Gears Up to Kick Off OktoberFAST at Home Track Family-owned team takes on huge week of DIRTcar Racing on DIRTVision, Oct. 6-11

BALLSTON SPA, NY — The full-fendered DIRTcar Pro Stocks visually stand out amongst the four premier DIRTcar Northeast Series, and the standout class has standout drivers like Jay Fitzgerald, who has wheeled a Pro Stock since 1996.

Fitzgerald and his family-run race team out of Ballston Spa, NY, are set to take on DIRTcar OktoberFAST presented by DIRTVision, which runs Oct. 6-11 at iconic dirt tracks across New York. The DIRTcar Pro Stock Series presented by COMP Cams is set to race three times over the six-day DIRTcar Racing extravaganza, beginning Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Fitzgerald’s home track Albany-Saratoga Speedway. Next, the Pro Stocks roll to Utica-Rome Speedway on Wednesday, Oct. 7, and then return to the schedule for the OktoberFAST finale at Weedsport Speedway on Sunday, Oct. 11. Every night of racing will be broadcast live around the world on DIRTVision.

But how did it all begin? Much the same way so many race car drivers get their start — a passed down passion for racing from Mom and Dad.

“I have been going to Albany-Saratoga Speedway (Malta, NY) since I was three. My parents and my aunt and uncle were faithful Albany fans and we went every Friday night,” said Fitzgerald. “In fact, my parents’ house is only 10 minutes from the track. Currently where I live is only 10 minutes from the track so Albany has been my home since I was three.”

Fitzgerald’s father owned a salvage yard in the 1970s. Salvage yards were goldmines for drivers and race car builders back then. One could find control arms, carbs, and even whole cars to take racing. That’s how the Fitzgerland and the Older families hooked up initially, and how a young Jay was introduced to the true life of a racer.

“Right around the corner from my house was a great friend of my Dad’s, Marc Older. He raced all through the ’70s. Marc’s brother started racing in the ’80s and before I could drive those guys would pick me up every weekend to go to the races. I got to go to the pits and I was only 10 years old. I learned a lot about life on those rides in the hauler,” Fitzgerald said with a laugh.

Although he learned a lot early, Fitzgerald didn’t jump straight into DIRTcar Pro Stocks. He cut his teeth on an enduro car and then raced a half-season in street stocks. In 1996, he made his first Pro Stock start.

Recently, Fitzgerald has gone all-in with his race team and brand new race shop where he’ll run his classic car part business: Classic Muscle Parts. Work funds the racing but it’s friends and family that fuels it.

“Past couple of years we’ve gone all-in with chasing the Series. We did a lot of racing last year. I absolutely loved going to Canada last year,” Fitzgerald noted. “My girlfriend, my stepdaughter, and I go on the road together. My stepdaughter is 16 and she is a real deal crew chief. She knows her stuff.”

In fact, we might just see a two-car team roll out of the Fitzgerald shop with the young lady behind the wheel in the near future. Stay tuned.

2020 has been a trying year for everyone and opportunities to race have been minimized. However, many DIRTcar sanctioned tracks opened the gates for Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship points and live streaming. Fitzgerald accumulated 26 starts in 2020, which is impressive given the circumstances. That also means his ride needs a look over before running three DIRTcar Pro Stock Series presented by COMP Cams races in six days.

“Our car is completely apart right now.” Fitzgerald said. “We took the rear end out and that is getting looked at. We are going through all the suspension, changing springs, and any wear items. You don’t want part failures in the middle of a week like this.”

Fitzgerald is excited to join the convoy of race cars crossing New York for OktoberFAST, but at least the first night, Tuesday, Oct. 6, is right at home at Albany-Saratoga Speedway.

“Albany is my home so we are hoping for good things. We’ve had a great car all year but the level of competition is so high,” noted Fitzgerald. “I looked at the Feature lineup a few weeks ago at Albany and every driver but one was a multi-time Feature winner.”

He hopes to start on the right foot in familiar territory. Next, the Series shoots down I-90 to Vernon, NY to race the half-mile Utica-Rome Speedway for another bout. Utica-Rome hosted races early on in 2020 and Fitzgerland felt very confident and racy there. He’s looking forward to going back to take on the Series.

The DIRTcar Pro Stock Series picks back up in the finale on Sunday, Oct. 11, at Weedsport Speedway. Fitzgerald has run only one race there, last year’s Series stop. He is eager to tackle the historic speedway once again.

Fitzgerald has an offer out to the touring Pro Stock drivers as well: “We open our shop for Series races to drivers who are traveling and need to work on the cars. We have scales, tools, food, and everybody hangs out. That’s the fun part!”

And that’s what it’s all about.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: $75K Up For Grabs At Williams Grove National Open The crown jewel event will see drivers battling for points, a prestigious win and big money

MECHANICSBURG, PA — Sept. 29, 2020 — Williams Grove Speedway’s rich history will add a new chapter this weekend with the Pennsylvania track hosting the largest Sprint Car event of 2020.

When the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series returns to the half-mile speedway, Oct. 2-3, for the Champion Racing Oil National Open, $10,000 will be up for grabs on Friday and a staggering $75,000 will be awarded to the winner on Saturday – the largest Sprint Car winner’s purse of the year.

To win the crown jewel, the stars of the World of Outlaws will have to compete against the local PA Posse and an all-star list of outsiders. However, the Posse has been shutout of a Series win for the last seven races at their tracks by the Outlaws and outsiders.

The two-day event will also play an important role in the 2020 World of Outlaws title hunt with only nine races remaining. Five drivers are still in contention for the driver championship and six teams are in contention for the team championship.

If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch all of the action live on DIRTVision.

Here are the top storylines to follow this weekend:

GRAVEL AT HOME IN PA: David Gravel and Jason Johnson Racing tasted victory again for the first time since August at Lernerville Speedway – Gravel’s second win in PA this year. His first came during the Summer Nationals at Williams Grove Speedway in July.

This weekend, the Watertown, CT driver will be on the hunt for his eighth Series win at Williams Grove and his second National Open victory – his first came in 2014. Along with winning, points will also be in the back of his mind as JJR sits second in the team championship points – 26 points behind Kasey Kahne Racing.

SWEET IN FAMILIAR TERRITORY: Brad Sweet, of Grass Valley, CA, left Lernerville Speedway with a 40-point lead over Donny Schatz last year and went on to win his first World of Outlaws championship. Last weekend, he left Lernerville with a 40-point lead over Logan Schuchart. He and his Kasey Kahne Racing team have nine more races to try and maintain that gap to get their second consecutive title.

At times, many would look at Williams Grove as an Achilles heel for Sweet. But with four top-10 finishes in the last four races at the track and a third-place finish there during the Summer Nationals, Sweet could be a contender to get his first win at the track.

SCHUCHART ON THE HUNT: Logan Schuchart, of Hanover, PA, will be on the hunt for his first World of Outlaws win in his home state this weekend and to make up ground on Brad Sweet for the championship.

He went from being eight points behind Sweet to 40 points behind the defending champion in three races last week. He stopped some of the bleeding at Lernerville by finishing fourth, while Sweet finished sixth. Schuchart already knows how to get the job done at a crown jewel event this year by winning the Jackson Nationals in June.

SCHATZ FINDING STEAM: After going winless for two months, 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz, of Fargo, ND, returned to Victory Lane at Plymouth Speedway last week – his fourth win of 2020. He’s now two wins away from earning his 300th career World of Outlaws win. A sweep of the weekend at Williams Grove could get that done.

There’s a good chance he could accomplish that feat, too, with 20 Series victories at the Williams Grove – five of them National Open victories. He was a prime contender to win the Summer Nationals this year before suffering a part failure. A strong performance this weekend would also help propel him closer to the title hunt. He’s currently 98 points behind Sweet in third.

GIVING HIS ALL: Sheldon Haudenschild, of Wooster, OH, has been one of the most impressive drivers on the tour the last two months. He’s picked up six wins and led more than 100 laps in that time. He nearly swept the tripleheader weekend if it wasn’t for a broken shock at Plymouth Speedway and a blown tire at Lernerville. Haudenschild did get a hometown win at Wayne County Speedway, though.

Williams Grove could be a test for he and his Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing on if they can keep their hot streak going. Haudenschild has yet to win at the historic track and has had up and down performances each time. He finished 10th and 20th there in July.

PITTMAN SICK OF SECOND: Daryn Pittman, of Owasso, OK, has six Series wins at Williams Grove but has yet to win the National Open. Last year was his fifth time finishing second at the event. After a solid debut week in the Heffner Racing #72 car, he’ll be poised to end that streak this weekend.

Pittman returned to Heffner Racing last week – after a year and a half of driving for Roth Motorsports – and progressed each race with the team. They finished 14th at Plymouth, 10th at Wayne County and third at Lernerville. In his 20 previous World of Outlaws starts with Heffner, Pittman picked up a win at Williams Grove in 2011.

INDY PARTS BULLET: The Indy Race Parts #71 car has a solid history at Williams Grove. Gio Scelzi earned his first career World of Outlaws win in the #71 at Williams Grove and Shane Stewart parked it in Victory Lane at the track again in July.

Stewart has performed well all year behind the wheel of Bernie and Betsy Stuebgen’s #71 ride – recently finishing second at Plymouth. He’ll look to carry that momentum into the National Open weekend.

POSSE TERRITORY: The PA Posse haven’t won against the World of Outlaws in Pennsylvania for seven Series races. The last of the group to do so was Lance Dewease at Williams Grove in May of 2019. The Fayetteville, PA driver has the best record of all Posse drivers at Williams Grove. He has 99 wins in total there and finished second at the Summer Nationals this year.

Brent Marks, of Myerstown, PA, is one driver many will have their eyes one. He won the National Open as a World of Outlaws driver last year but returned to his PA Posse roots this year, driving for CJB Motorsports. He’s currently second in points at the track with one win there.

PA young guns Anthony Macri, of Dillsburg, PA, and Freddie Rahmer, of Salfordville, PA, will try to throw their names into the mix. Macri finished third during the opening night of the Summer Nationals in July and Rahmer is the current points leader at the track with three wins.

Danny Dietrich, of Gettysburg, PA, is the defending Williams Grove track champion but he’ll have to make big improvement from his Summer Nationals performance, finishing 16th both nights, if he wants to compete for a win this weekend.

Hafertepe Eyeing First Short Track Nationals Title

Bryan Hulbert – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (September 28, 2020) Having won some of the biggest events in 360cid competition, the one that has consistently eluded Sam Hafertepe, Jr. has been the COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires.

"The last two ASCS National races we've had there, we've one, and we've dominated prelim nights, but it seems like when we get to the final we're either in the wrong spot, or things just don't go our way, but I've never felt like we just got outright beat because we didn't have the car to win the race, we were just dealing with circumstances," stated Sam.

Looking at the Sunnyvale, Texas driver's record, Sam has three prelim night victories to his credit, has made the Short Track Nationals finale seven times and has amassed a trio of podium runs, four top-five, and a half-dozen top ten finishes.

Entering the $10,041 to win weekend fresh off his third Hockett/McMillin Memorial title, Sam is racing for more than the Short Track National Title, as for the first time, the weekend will also count towards tour standings with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network. Despite having a 262-point buffer, that can all change in the blink of an eye.

"That's just part of it, but we're not worried about that," explained Hafertepe.

"My focus is on winning. The points will be there, and they'll take care of themselves, and we're just focused on making sure we get in a good position come Saturday night to be in the running. We need to start in the first two rows, get out front, and set the pace."

The star-studded event takes place Friday, October 2, and Saturday, October 3, with a Thursday night Test and Tune preceding the event. Two-day tickets are on sale for $40. Tickets purchased the day of the race are $20 for Friday and $28 for Saturday. For the two-day tickets and day of purchase, paying by Debit or Credit Card will add $2.

Tickets can be purchased by calling (501) 455-4567 or online at https://www.i-30speedway.com/short-track-nationals.

Practice on Thursday, October 1, will open at 4:00 P.M. with cars on track from 7:00 P.M through 9:30 P.M. (CT). Friday, October 2, and Saturday, October 3, will open at 4:00 P.M. Hot Laps will be at 7:00 P.M. with racing at 7:30 P.M. (CT).

I-30 Speedway is located on the I-30 Frontage Road, eastbound at Exit 126. More information on the Speedway can be found at https://www.i-30speedway.com or by calling (501) 455-4567.

Brock Zearfoss fifth in Selinsgrove National Open; Williams Grove National Open next

 By Fully Injected Motorsports:

JONESTOWN, Pa. (September 28, 2020) – Despite a pair of tough outings against the All Star Circuit of Champions at Eldora Speedway, highlighting the two-day Governors Reign with an 18th-place finish during the $52,000-to-win finale, the “Jonestown Jet” Brock Zearfoss turned the corner and rebounded in a big way during Selinsgrove Speedway’s National Open on Saturday, September 26, eventually capping the $20,000-to-win program with a fifth-place finish after starting in the exact same position. With the result, the former Port Royal Speedway track champion increased his season top-five tally to 21.

With the intent to keep his momentum rolling in the right direction, Zearfoss, driver of the Brock Zearfoss Racing, Moose’s LZ Bar & Grill, Heavy Equipment, Loaders & Parts Inc., C&D Rigging Inc., BAPS Auto Paints & Supply, Meckley’s Limestone Products, Berkebile Oil Company, Klick Lewis Cars, J.P. Adamsky Trucking, X-1 Race Cars, No. 3Z sprint car, will continue his 2020 campaign with another National Open, this time featuring the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday and Saturday, October 2-3. A $75,000 winner’s share will be up for grabs on Saturday evening, the largest paying program on the 2020 sprint car calendar.

With redemption on the brain, Zearfoss will attempt to outdo his 2019 National Open performance and qualify for the 40-lap showcase.

“We are pretty determined. I think this team is more than capable of making some noise this weekend, if not be in the hunt on Saturday night,” Zearfoss said, a former World of Outlaws winner at Williams Grove Speedway. “It’s been a really odd season, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t lost focus. There is a lot of money up for grabs at Williams Grove and we’d like to take the biggest portion of it home with us.”

Brock Zearfoss and Brock Zearfoss Racing will enter Williams Grove’s prestigious two-day affair with a pair of wins in 2020, one of which against the All Star Circuit of Champions at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in mid-June.

2020 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: 6018 points | Third (98-points behind championship leader, Brad Sweet)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (September 28, 2020) – Ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, Donny Schatz, returned to Series victory lane during the recent weekend, highlighting a five-day stretch of All Star Circuit of Champions and World of Outlaws competition with a win at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Indiana, on Thursday, September 24. The World of Outlaws triumph was Schatz’ fourth of the season, taking command on lap 21 after race leader, Sheldon Haudenschild, suffered from mechanical misfortune.

“These (Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing) guys kept digging,” said Schatz in Plymouth victory lane. “We know the road to the top. We know the road to the bottom. These guys just keep working. They’ve tried to get a handle on the horsepower (of the Ford FPS 410 engine). This is a different combination for tonight and obviously everything that’s happened shows it’s going in the right direction. We’re happy about that.”

Schatz’ Plymouth Speedway victory kicked-off three straight nights of World of Outlaws competition, nearly trumping his $10,000 win with a fourth-place run during the WoO return to Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, on Friday, September 25. Schatz started in the exact same position.

A visit to Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, September 26, capped the three-day stretch; Schatz finished tenth from 13th.

Before igniting three consecutive Outlaw starts, Schatz joined the All Star Circuit of Champions at Eldora Speedway and took part in the first-ever Governors Reign on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 22-23. Concluded with a $52,000-to-win finale, Schatz finished tenth and 19th, respectively, during the two-day showstopper, forced to surrender a top-ten running position on Wednesday after his nose wing detached; the Fargo-native recovered to finish 19th.

The two-day, crown jewel event will be headlined with a $75,000-to-win main event on Saturday evening.

Schatz, who will enter the weekend third in the current World of Outlaws standings, is a five-time champion of the Williams Grove Speedway National Open.

ST. HELENA, California (September 28, 2020) – Despite a wave of bad luck and frustrating results that seemed to plague his final week on the east coast, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu managed to find some light and scored a top-five outcome during World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series competition at Wayne County Speedway on Friday, September 25. Abreu finished fifth against the Greatest Show On Dirt, powering forward from the outside of row four after qualifying through his respective heat race. In fact, the former All Star winner at Wayne County battled his way to fourth, but ten-time Series champion, Donny Schatz, reclaimed the position forcing Abreu to settle for fifth.

Unfortunately, Abreu’s luck only proved to be valuable in Orrville, Ohio. The six-time feature winner in 2020 suffered from mechanical failure during night one of Eldora Speedway’s Governors Reign, only to weigh two pounds light at the scales on night two, ultimately erasing all hope for a shot at the $52,000 top prize.

Mechanical misfortune would strike again during Selinsgrove Speedway’s annual National Open on Saturday, September 26. Abreu started tenth on the feature grid, but would eventually surrender his place in the running order and settle with an 18th-place score.

“If it wasn’t for bad luck, we would have no luck at all. At least we were able to put together a great night against the Outlaws at Wayne County Speedway. We are really proud about that,” Rico Abreu said, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Davis Door Company/J. Davidson Scrap Metal/Wiser Golf/The Wiser Agency/Stadelhofer Construction/Self Made Racing/Salty’s BBQ/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprint car. “I just want to thank all of the fans for supporting us during our time in the Midwest and east coast, especially our fans in Pennsylvania. We spent a lot of time in Posse Country this summer and we wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. You guys make us feel right at home and we appreciate everything. I can’t wait to get back. Thanks, everyone.”

Dominic Scelzi Highlights Busy Week With Top 10 During Power Series Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - PLYMOUTH, Ind. (Sept. 28, 2020) - Dominic Scelzi is fresh off a busy week that featured five races at three tracks in three different states during a seven-day period.

His best result came during that first night when he invaded Huset's Speedway in Brandon, S.D., on Sept. 18 for the DeKalb/Asgrow Power Series Nationals presented by Casey's General Stores/ Scelzi kicked off the Midwest Sprint Touring Series and the Midwest Power Series doubleheader by qualifying seventh quickest in his group. He then advanced from sixth to fifth place in a heat race and from 17th to ninth in the A Main.

"We went out a little early and didn't have a great time in qualifying," he said. "We got one spot in the heat to lock into the feature. In the main event I was running 15th with about seven laps to go. I started running the heck out of the top and was able to get up to ninth."

Scelzi's eight positions gained was tied for the second-most cars passed in the feature.

The ensuing night started better at Huset's Speedway. Unfortunately, the action was short-lived.

"We qualified better, going second quickest in our group, but we lost an engine about three laps into the heat race while racing for second," he said. "That ended our night early."

The team headed to Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, last Tuesday for the Governors Reign opener with the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1.

"We were 14th quickest out of the 48 drivers in qualifying, which was good," he said. "However, I was seventh quickest in my group. The track was locked down so you couldn't really pass. We finished seventh in our heat race and we got by a couple in the B Main to finish ninth.

"The next night we went out a little bit later and didn't have the speed. I felt good, but we just didn't have the speed. I felt like it was every bit of the Kings Royal and the Knoxville Nationals. It was neat to be invited and to be a part of it. For whatever reason we didn't have the speed we needed to contend."

Scelzi timed in 36th quickest overall before finishing seventh in a heat race and 11th in the B Main.

The week wrapped up last Thursday at Plymouth Speedway during a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series show. Scelzi qualified 20 th quickest. He gained a position in a heat race to finish fourth, locking him into the 16th starting position in the feature.

"We didn't qualify very good," he said. "We got aggressive and were a little tight. In the heat race we picked up a spot and raced with (Logan) Schuchart for third. In the feature I worked my way to 10th. With about 11 laps to go I had a bad restart on the outside and ended up running 12th. We were racy, which was good."

The 12th-place finish was Scelzi's 39th top 15 of the season.

The team has had a recent change of plans and is returning to Scelzi's home state of California. The schedule for the remainder of the year will be decided in the near future.
