ST. HELENA, Calif. (September 14, 2020) – Driving right by Central Pennsylvania legend and heavy weekend favorite, Lance Dewease, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu was well on his way to a $53,000 top prize on Saturday night during Port Royal Speedway’s Tuscarora 50 finale, but with less than 15 laps remaining in the 50-lap contest, universal joint issues surfaced forcing Abreu to retire early; Abreu was scored 23rd.

The driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Wiser Golf/J. Davidson Scrap Metal/Self Made Racing/Dancer Logistics/The Wiser Group/Whistle Stop Bar and Grill/Salty’s BBQ/Stadelhofer Construction/No. 24 sprint car started second on the Tuscarora 50 finale grid by way of feature redraw, earning the draw opportunity after winning his respective heat race.

“We are definitely disappointed, but it was great to show where we stand and lead the Tuscarora 50. Hats off to my team. I’m proud of everyone. It was a fun weekend and I’m already looking forward to getting back there,” Rico Abreu said, a six-time sprint car winner in 2020 including a $10,000 victory at Attica Raceway Park. “I want to thank all of the fans for coming out and supporting the Tuscarora 50. To be a part of an event of that size is really special. Pennsylvania fans are some of the best fans in the country and we love getting the chance to see everyone. I can’t wait to see everyone again.”

The highlight of Abreu’s three-day Tuscarora 50 visit occurred during preliminary action on Friday, September 11, when the recent All Star Circuit of Champions winner finished fifth after starting 12th. Abreu kicked-off the evening with a heat race victory.

Unfortunately for Abreu, his Port Royal Speedway tripleheader kicked-off similar to how it ended, as tire issues during Thursday’s main event forced Abreu to retire to the back; he would recover to finish 17th.

Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing will continue their 2020 campaign with another pair of All Star Circuit of Champions starts, this time visiting Williams Grove Speedway and Lincoln Speedway on Friday and Saturday, September 18-19. The Posse Country doubleheader will be headlined with the $20,000-to-win Dirt Classic at Lincoln.

Certainly no stranger to south-central Pennsylvania, Abreu is a recent winner in the Pigeon Hills, scoring Lincoln’s PA Sprint Speedweek payday on June 29.
