Hill Wraps Up Season Fighting Misfortune at Devil's Bowl Winter Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 20, 2020) - A challenging track and some misfortune kept Alex Hill from enjoying a more successful weekend than she aimed to produce with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour during the 47th annual Winter Nationals hosted by Devil's Bowl Speedway.

"It wasn't bad, but it could've been a lot better," Hill said regarding her final racing weekend of the year. "The track was heavy and hammer-down both nights, making it really difficult to pass. That made drawing well more important than usual.

"The first night we drew well, but had an issue with the car. We got that fixed the second night, but we had a bad draw."

Hill started second and finished in that position during her heat race on Friday night, which placed her 11th on the A Main starting grid.

"I got the lead in the heat race, but lost it when I got into the slop on the frontstretch and finished second," she said. "I was running pretty well in the feature for the first few laps and then the car felt like it was down on the right rear tire and it was really uncomfortable to drive. There was a caution after about seven laps and I pulled in because I thought something on the car was broke.

"My crew couldn't find anything wrong and I restarted in the back. It didn't get any better and I pulled in when I got lapped. My crew changed the rear bars after the race and it was fine on Saturday."

Saturday night also presented frustration for Hill. While there were no issues with her car, she had a poor draw, which mired her deep in the field.

"We had a bad draw and that kind of set the tone for the night," said Hill, who started in the last row in her heat race. "Like Friday, the track was one-lane again and it was difficult to move forward in the heat. That started us pretty deep in the B Main. We were able to pass some cars in the B Main after starting ninth, but once I got to fifth the rest of the cars were a ways in front of me and strung out so that was where we finished.

"It wasn't the way we had hoped to finish our season, but you have nights like that when things go against you."

Hill used a provisional to tag the rear of the field in the feature and she pulled in early. She was credited with an 11th-place showing in the ASCS National Tour championship standings for the second straight year.
