Kerry Madsen Captures Top 10 During Nittany Showdown at Port Royal Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Oct. 12, 2020) - Kerry Madsen posted a top-10 performance last weekend during the Nittany Showdown at Port Royal Speedway.

Madsen guided the Killer Instinct Crossbows sponsored Big Game Motorsports team to a 10th-place run on Friday before a broken shock ended his night early on Saturday during a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader.

The weekend started on Friday with Madsen qualifying fifth quickest in his group. He then finished where he lined up - third - in a heat race to lock into the 10th starting position in the A Main.

"On Friday night we missed the front row by one for our heat race," he said. "We raced pretty hard and I had a good car. The same thing in the feature. The track was pretty quick. We survived some of the mayhem and ended up 10th."

Madsen began Saturday's event by timing in seventh quickest in his group.

"We got a really late draw," he said. "Usually you can go out at the end and qualify decent at Port Royal, but the track slowed down a lot. We ended up seventh and we had a tough group so it was still a pretty good time. We lost a spot early in the heat, but had a good car and got back to fourth so we were happy about that. We were pretty confident for the A Main, but with a full fuel load we were too tight and lost some ground. Once the car freed up it started coming back. We were pushing pretty hard with a few laps to go when I clipped the wall in turns one and two. It broke a front shock bolt so I had to pull in."

Madsen was running inside the top 15 when the DNF relegated him to a 24 th-place finish.

Next up for the team are World of Outlaws races on Friday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., and Saturday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., for the Jason Johnson Classic.

"I've always ran really well at Lakeside so we expect to go there and do well," Madsen said. "The story of our season is that we have to put the whole night together. We're still learning each other and the race car. And we ran good at Lake Ozark early in the year so we're pretty confident."
