Wednesday, October 21, 2020 Backed Carney II Posts Sixth-Place Result During Devil's Bowl Winter Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 20, 2020) - John Carney II highlighted the 47th annual Winter Nationals with a top-10 performance last Friday at Devil's Bowl Speedway.

The Xiphos saw blade and Burkham Contracting sponsored driver piloted a sprint car for Scott Brown during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour's two-day event. It began on a positive note for Carney II, who advanced from fifth to third place in a heat race. Carney II ranked ninth in overall points following the heat race, which narrowly missed the feature redraw and lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the A Main.

"Friday night went well," he said. "We just missed the feature redraw by one spot and that was important. We were a pretty decent car, but not quite fast enough to pass people. We picked up a few spots and we had an idea of what to do the next night."

Carney II earned a sixth-place showing. He started in a similar position on Saturday, lining up fifth in a heat race. This time he gained one position and that put him one spot out of locking into the main event. Carney II started on the pole of the first B Main and a runner-up result locked him into the A Main. He advanced several positions before ending 16 th.

"The track was way different," he said. "It was greasy and slick through the first couple of heat races. On the start I was stuck behind a guy and by the time I got around him I didn't pass enough cars. They had some wrecks in other heats with cars in the front so the points got shuffled a lot and that made us run a B Main.

"In the feature I drove up to about 10th and was rolling real good, but we had some mechanical problems toward the end of the race that slowed us down. The weekend wasn't that bad. We didn't tear anything up. That should make the offseason pretty easy."

Oct. 16 - Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas - Heat race: 3 (5); Feature: 6 (9).

Oct. 17 - Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas - Heat race: 4 (5); B Main: 2 (1); Feature: 16 (19).

39 races, 5 wins, 9 top fives, 19 top 10s, 29 top 15s, 33 top 20s

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT - Burkham Contracting

"David and Jeff Burkham from Burkham Contracting bought a car from me last year and we've been friends since then," Carney II said. "They wanted to be a part of the team and we're grateful for their support."

Carney would also like to thank, Danny Sander Construction, Mesilla Valley Transportation, South Plains Towing, CSR Garage, Jackson Compaction, Speedway Motors Racing Engines, Momentum Racing Suspensions, Raider Graphix and Tejas Motors for their continued support.
