Williamson Pumped to Make Short Track Nationals Debut This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - COLUMBIA, Mo. (Sept. 30, 2020) - One year ago Garet Williamson was sitting on the sidelines during the prestigious Short Track Nationals.

The plan was for Williamson to take on some of the nation's best 360ci sprint car drivers in the event. That changed when the Bryant Paver Motorsports driver hurt an engine the week before and couldn't make the trip.

All systems are a go in 2020. Williamson is rested after a week off from racing and he is looking forward to facing the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour regulars as well as other invaders during the 33rd annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires this Friday and Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.

This is one of the biggest events on the season schedule for Williamson. Not only is the field stacked with 50-plus other drivers, Saturday's finale pays $10,041 to win.

"You just treat it like any other event," Williamson said. "It's Short Track Nationals, and obviously, everyone is there. Everyone is going to be watching. It's definitely a huge show, but it's not different than any of the other big shows we have run this year. You've just got to be ready to go."

It helps that Williamson has seen I-30 Speedway this season. In fact, he had a quick car at the racy facility against a star-studded ASCS field this summer.

Williamson started 12th and was running in the top five when the track rubbered up. He fell to sixth in the final rundown, but he earned some much-needed experience that he can take into this weekend.

"We ran decent there earlier this year so we have a little bit of confidence going into that place," he said. "It's a short track and I kind of like those places and seem to get around them pretty good. Hopefully, we can go back to what we know and what we did there at the beginning of the year and see how we roll around."

If past success wasn't enough, Williamson's speed as of late might be. He has been fast the last two months, recording wins and strong finishes against stiff competition.

"I think it helps a lot," said Williamson, who has three wins and 10 top-10 finishes this season. "We rolled around there pretty good at the beginning of the year and we've learned a lot since then. We are faster now than were then, and with that many cars, you've got to be on your game. Hopefully, we can be fast early in the night and get a good start for the feature."
