THURSDAY THRILLER: Sweet Survives Bullring Brawl at Jacksonville for Sixth Win of Season Haudenschild's Flat, Larson's Spin & Schatz's Slider Highlight Chaotic 40-Lapper

JACKSONVILLE, IL - April 29, 2021 - They sold full seats at Jacksonville Speedway on Thursday night, but the massive crowd only needed the edges of them.

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series rolled into town for one night only and continued to offer The Greatest Show on Dirt. It was breathtaking, extraordinary, astounding, chaotic, and dramatic more than anything else.

The box score will only show two different official leaders, but in all reality the battle for the win was decided between six, count 'em SIX DRIVERS: Sheldon Haudenschild, Brad Sweet, Kyle Larson, Carson Macedo, David Gravel, and Donny Schatz.

In the end, it wasn't the fittest, but actually the Sweetest who survived the mayhem to topple the $10,000 Feature at the 1/4-mile. Taking advantage of Haudenschild's cut tire, Sweet inherited the lead then fended off a three-wide attack and a slide job on the final restart to secure his sixth win of the season aboard the Kasey Kahne Racing, NAPA Auto Parts #49.

The Grass Valley, CA native knows he wasn't the best, but hey that's short track racing as The Big Cat put it.

"That right there was short track racing as its finest, wow," Sweet proclaimed. "I hope you fans know we can feel all of this energy. It's so fun to be a World of Outlaws driver right now. That was action packed and I don't think I was anywhere close to being the best car, but we survived with luck on our side. It's such a tough 40 laps around this place."

Questions mounted with heavy rains dousing the facility on Wednesday evening, but the staff at Jacksonville Speedway was more determined than ever to not let Mother Nature spoil the party.

The action got off to a hot start with Sheldon Haudenschild clocking the first-ever nine-second lap at the 1/4-mile with a time of 9.990 seconds in Slick Woody's Qualifying to set the New Track Record. His lightning-quick run put Jacksonville alongside River Cities (9.260), Bloomington (9.300), US-36 (9.840), Cottage Grove (9.991), and I-55 (9.995) as only the sixth track in World of Outlaws history with a nine-second lap.

Haudenschild's momentum carried the NOS Energy Drink #17 to the outside pole of the 40-lap feature with Sweet starting inside of him after taking the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash. The Wooster, OH native used the outside to his advantage and threaded the needle to lead the opening circuit. Haudenschild paced the opening eight laps before a restart allowed Sweet to slide in front of him and take command.

Sweet proceeded to lead the next 19 laps before Haudenschild roared back to the point with a daring move in heavy lap traffic. Just as the #17 pulled a diamond off turn two and slid the #49 for the top spot in turn three, the caution flew and set up the final double-file restart with 11 to go.

Lil Haud elected to take the top side and quickly drove away as he looked poised to score his third World of Outlaws win this season. However, a cut tire with only eight laps left soured his shot at the lead and sent him to the work area to change a right rear tire.

The ensuing restart gave Sweet the lead, but a mistake in turn one created a three-wide frenzy as he fought Carson Macedo and Kyle Larson for the top spot. The battle was short-lived as contact from Macedo and Larson sent the #57 spinning to a stop and removed him from contention.

From there, David Gravel entered the picture, but couldn't make much of his run at Sweet. However, a caution on Lap 39 for Zach Hampton set fans up with a thrilling green-white-checkered as Donny Schatz lined up behind Sweet with the win on the line.

Schatz aced the middle of turns one and two then launched a turn three slide job as the duo raced back to the white flag. Sweet was quick to react and crossed under Schatz out of turn four to withhold the lead with one to go. Schatz had one last ditch effort coming to the checkered flag, but ultimately Sweet survived to win the thriller by 0.190-seconds.

"Hey, a win is a win it doesn't matter how you get there," Sweet said. "I about flipped, biked up, all but wrecked there at the end. A lot of things played out in my favor to get this win. You never want to see the yellow coming to the checkered I can tell you that. Luckily, I kept my tires underneath to me cross Donny back and held on to put one more lap together."

For 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz, it was his second consecutive runner-up finish aboard the Tony Stewar/Curb-Agajanian Racing #15. After a tough three-week stretch, he admitted the team has recalibrated and their hard work is showing.

"You gotta crawl before you can walk, and you gotta walk before you can run," Schatz noted. "My Carquest, Ford Performance guys are doing great. We've been getting better and that's all you can ask for. We reset and went back to square one, so now we're building ourselves back up again. Times change, people change, and we're changing with it. I'm gonna keep doing what I've been doing for the past 25 years here."

Rounding out the top five at Jacksonville was David Gravel (Big Game #2) with his career-best finish of third at the 1/4-mile, Carson Macedo (Jason Johnson #41) with a strong fourth-place finish, and Rico Abreu of St. Helena, CA with his best finish of the season in World of Outlaws competition.

Closing out the top ten on Thursday night was Jacob Allen with his first top-ten since February, Tim Kaeding with his best run yet aboard the Tony Stewart #14, Logan Schuchart after going tailback on Lap 29, Sheldon Haudenschild following his heartbreak on Lap 32, and Aaron Reutzel, who also recovered from the work area.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: World of Outlaws Set for Jacksonville & I-70 Doubleheader Monumental Bristol Throwdown Sets the Stage for Rest of Epic 2021 Season

JACKSONVILLE, IL - April 28, 2021 - The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series is coming off a huge weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, but the fun is only beginning.

This weekend, The Greatest Show on Dirt prepares for a triple-header at two different tracks in two different states. One track is one of the most exciting, intense bullrings on the schedule; whereas the other is hosting their grand re-opening and their first World of Outlaws show in 35 years.

It all starts on Thursday, April 29 at the 1/4-mile Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, IL. On Friday and Saturday, April 30 & May 1, the Series transitions to Odessa, Missouri's I-70 Motorsports Park, which hosts the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown.

JACKSONVILLE TICKETS (4/29)
I-70 TICKETS (4/30-5/1)

Here are some of the most noteworthy storylines to follow this weekend:

WE'RE JUST GETTING STARTED: Last weekend's Bristol Throwdown gave the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars a stage unlike anything else. The hype, excitement, and engagement around the return to Bristol Motor Speedway for the first time in 20 years was off the charts. However, that was only the beginning to a huge remaining portion of the 2021 schedule.

68 races remain, several of them being the largest the sport of Sprint Car racing has to offer. We've got two $175,000 paydays at the King's Royal at Eldora (OH) Speedway in July, the 60th running of the Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville (IA) Raceway in August, THE SHOWDOWN week in June where one driver could leave Huset's (SD) Speedway and Jackson (MN) Motorplex with a total of $180,000, and there's so much more in between. The Series will travel from Pennsylvania to Washington and California to North Carolina while bringing The Greatest Show on Dirt to fans worldwide on DIRTVision.

"BIG SH*T IN A SMALL BOWL": There is no greater contrast on the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series schedule than transitioning from a 142 MPH average speed on Bristol's 1/2-mile on Sunday to banging it off the fence at one of the smallest bullrings at Jacksonville Speedway.

Drivers are faced with the challenge of forgetting their smooth, crisp attitude on the daunting high-banks of Bristol and remembering how to get their elbows up and race 5-6 cars ahead at a time when racing through lap traffic. Jacksonville Speedway promoter Kenny Dobson said it best, comparing the 1,400 lb, 900 HP Outlaws at the 1/4-mile Jacksonville to "big sh*t in a small bowl."

In three previous events at Jacksonville: Christopher Bell scored his first-career win driving the Fox Brothers #53 in 2014, Joey Saldana and the Roth Motorsports #83 outlasted Aaron Reutzel for victory in 2016, and Carson Macedo survived Sheldon Haudenschild to take the win in 2019.

NEXT CHAPTER AT I-70: After a 35-year absence, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars are finally returning to Odessa, Missouri. The revamped and re-established I-70 Motorsports Park comes back on the map with their grand opening this Friday and Saturday, April 30 - May 1 with the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown.

I-70 hosted 19 events from 1981 to 1986 - with Steve Kinser & Sammy Swindell each winning more than five - but the track was converted to asphalt before closing in 2008. Now, it's back, and set to rejuvenate the Sprint Car scene in Missouri. For teams like Jason Johnson Racing of Rocky Mount, MO and Mason Daniel Racing of Carrollton, MO, it's another of several home races for them.

ON TOP OF THE WORLD: After his weekend sweep worth $35,000 at Bristol Motor Speedway, David Gravel and the Big Game Motorsports #2 cleaned up every ounce of confidence available on the World of Outlaws Sprint Car tour right now.

Through the first 13 events this season, Gravel had 12 top-ten finishes, but only one victory and one podium. That all changed as the Series returned to its first 1/2-mile venue since opening at Volusia, a type of racing that Gravel thrives on. He's now won the most features on big tracks with 10 1/2-mile victories since 2019. Which is crucial considering some of the largest paydays of the season come at 1/2-miles like Knoxville, Eldora and Williams Grove.

SHARK STRUGGLES: Just three weeks ago, Logan Schuchart and his Drydene Performance Products #1S were the closest challenger to Brad Sweet atop the championship standing, after all Schuchart started the season with 11 top tens in 11 races. However, since heading east, they've struggled with consecutive finishes of 22nd at Kokomo, 19th at Tri-State, and 20th & 19th at Bristol, sending him spiraling from second to sixth in the points.

However, if you dig deep, it's all circumstance. They haven't been bad, just unlucky and misfortunate. Jacob Allen, who hasn't recorded a top-ten finish since he ran seventh & eighth in the first two races at Volusia, has led laps and contended at the front in races since then. Schuchart would've won $25,000 at Bristol if it was a 23-lap affair, as he dominated the Feature before a mechanical issue eliminated him from the race.

The Hanover gang will look to get back on track and end their unlucky streak with three chances to park it in victory lane this weekend.

BULLRING SUCCESS: Through three events at Jacksonville Speedway, 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz and 2-time Series champion Brad Sweet are the only drivers with a top-five effort in all three appearances.

For Schatz and his Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, Carquest, Ford Performance #15, he's finished third, fourth and fourth consecutively at Jacksonville. After a tough stretch through March and early April, the Fargo, ND native got back into a rhythm at Bristol with back-to-back top-five finishes to rekindle some momentum.

Sweet and his Kasey Kahne Racing w/ Mike Curb, NAPA Auto Parts #49 has improved one spot over every single visit to the Jacksonville, IL facility. He started with fourth in 2014, then third in 2016, and second in 2019. If the trend continues, we'll see The Big Cat in victory lane come Thursday night.

HOME WIN FOR FVP: Friday and Saturday's trip to I-70 Motorsports Park comes in the form of the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown. In attendance driving the FVP Parts #21 will be Brian Brown of Grain Valley, MO hoping to give his sponsors a victory in their own event.

ST. HELENA, Calif. (April 26, 2021) – For the first time in 2021, Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing rolled out a second car, and what a debut it was, surprising Wooster, Ohio-native and National Sprint Car Hall of Famer, Jac Haudenschild, with the revival of his iconic No. 22, which, at the time of its original debut nearly 30 years prior, was owned by the late Jack Elden.

Officially launching Haudenschild’s Farewell Tour – celebrating his final year behind the wheel of a sprint car – the “Wild Child” strapped into the ever-popular No. 22 for Bristol Motor Speedway’s Throwdown during the recent weekend, joining the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series for a $35,000 potential.

Rico Abreu, aboard his Rowdy Energy/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Self Made/Wiser Agency/No. 24 sprint car, joined Haudenschild during the World of Outlaws invasion of the Last Great Colosseum, and although the duo missed the top-ten during each night of Bristol’s dirt blockbuster, race fans and sprint car enthusiasts from around the globe were finally reacquainted with one of the sport’s most well-known and iconic rides.

“It was a special weekend for everyone,” Rico Abreu said. “Jac had no idea this was all happening. It was tough to keep things a secret because we were all so excited to show him, but it all worked out. I wish the weekend would have gone a little bit better for each of us, but we’ll get back to where we need to be soon. We had some solid runs with the All Stars last weekend, but we couldn’t quite get the momentum to shift over to Bristol. This week is a new week and we’re going to do whatever we have to do to get back up front.”

Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing will continue their 2021 campaign with a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series tripleheader on April 29-May 1. The Greatest Show On Dirt will visit Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois, on Thursday, followed by two straight nights at I-70 Motorsports Park in Odessa, Missouri, on Friday and Saturday.

Jac Haudenschild will return to his iconic No. 22 during #LetsRaceTwo action at Eldora Speedway on Friday and Saturday, May 7-8.

Smoke fourth in USCS Talladega Short Track start

Date: Friday, April 23rd
Event: 25th Anniversary Silver Shootout
Series: United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder Tour (USCS)
Track: Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Alabama)
Tony Stewart A-Main Finish (Start): 4th (5th)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (April 26, 2021) – Despite poor weather conditions disrupting plans to contend for two victories instead of one, three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and NASCAR Hall of Famer, Tony Stewart, made the most of his weekend at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama, and earned a top-five outcome during USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour competition, ultimately turning a third row starting position into a fourth-place finish.

Smoke, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Rush Truck Centers/Advance Auto Parts/Curb Records/Ford Performance/Digital Ally/Sage Fruit/FloRacing/Absolute Automation and Security/Hunt Brothers Pizza/Mobil 1/Carquest Auto Parts/J&J Auto Racing/No. 14 sprint car, kicked-off his evening at Talladega with a heat race victory, setting the tone for his soon-to-be third top-five finish of the 2021 season.

“We enjoy racing at Talladega. It’s always good to get back there,” Tony Stewart said. “Our team is in a good place right now. Things are clicking and we’re building more and more confidence with every start. I’m excited to see where things go over the next few weeks.”

With confidence and momentum a continuing benefactor, Smoke will enter the month of May with not only a recent USCS top-five to his credit, but also two victories, most recently claiming a $12,000 payday during a thriller at Virginia Motor Speedway with the All Star Circuit of Champions. Accomplished in dramatic fashion, the five-figure score was acquired with a last lap, last corner pass over Monrovia, Indiana’s Justin Peck. Stewart started eighth on the A-Main grid and led only the last 100 yards of the 30-lap blockbuster.

Tony Stewart and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing have not declared plans for the coming weekend. Fans are encouraged to keep alert online, as well as on social media for schedule updates.

Schatz throws down at Bristol for top-five, podium; Illinois and Missouri visits ahead

Dates: Friday and Sunday, April 23rd and 25th
Event: Bristol Throwdown
Series: World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series
Track: Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tennessee)
Donny Schatz A-Main Finishes (Start):
Friday: 5th (3rd)
Sunday: 2nd (3rd)

2021 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: Seventh | 1982 points [160 points behind championship leader, Brad Sweet]

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (April 26, 2021) – Returning to a more consistent and well-known state, ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, Donny Schatz, made the most of his return to Bristol Motor Speedway during the recent weekend and translated a pair of A-Main starts into a pair of top-five finishes, highlighting all results with a podium score during the second night of Bristol’s Throwdown featuring the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. The back-to-back top-five outcome served a major rebound for Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, as the Brownsburg, Indiana-based outfit missed the top-ten during five consecutive Series starts, mostly due to mechanical misfortune.

Schatz, driver of the Carquest Auto Parts/Curb Records/Ford Performance/Sage Fruit/Digital Ally/Advance Auto Parts/Rush Truck Centers/Absolute Automation and Security/Hunt Brothers Pizza/J&J Auto Racing/No. 15 sprint car, finished second in his podium appearance, ultimately gaining one position after starting third on the Throwdown finale grid. Making things interesting, the Fargo, North Dakota-native was in a prime position to pounce during a green-white-checkered restart, but eventual winner and fellow WoO championship contender, David Gravel, prevailed, solidifying his weekend sweep for a grand total of $35,000.

The $25,000-to-win Throwdown finale was scheduled to be completed on Saturday, but Mother Nature had other plans.

As the only former Bristol winner in the field, Donny Schatz opened his weekend at the Last Great Colosseum with a fifth-place run on Friday, maintaining for a top-five after starting third on the feature grid.

Although the team is still seventh in the World of Outlaws championship standings, Schatz’ weekend results pushed the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing entry 24 points closer to the championship lead, now trailing Brad Sweet by 160 markers.

“I wouldn’t say we’re back yet,” Schatz said afterward the Bristol finale. “We had a solid finish and had some good speed, but it’s a lot harder to climb out of a hole than people think. It’s just the nature of the beast. We had a chance to contend there for a while, but just couldn’t follow through. Momentum means everything, that’s a big lesson I’ve learned in my 25 years. So hopefully this is a stepping stone to getting back on track.”

Donny Schatz will continue his quest toward an 11th World of Outlaws championship with a three-day march through Illinois and Missouri on Thursday through Saturday, April 29-May 1. The Greatest Show On Dirt will visit Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois, on Thursday, followed by two straight nights at I-70 Motorsports Park in Odessa, Missouri, on Friday and Saturday.

“Double-D” with back-to-back top-fives in Port Royal and Selinsgrove starts

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (April 26, 2021) – Despite being dealt a “DNF” at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, “Double-D” Danny Dietrich rebounded big during the remainder of his weekend schedule and eventually translated two consecutive starts into a pair of top-five finishes, highlighting his campaign in Posse Country with a fourth-place outcome during the Ray Tilley Classic at Selinsgrove Speedway on Sunday, April 25.

Dietrich, driver of the Gary Kauffman Racing, Weikert’s Livestock, Sandoe’s Fruit Market, Pace Performance, Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts, Bowhunters Superstore, Drop Of Ink Tattoo, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, Self Made, No. 48 sprint car, was in a position for victory during the $5,088-to-win showstopper, but his slide job attempt over eventual winner, Brent Marks, on lap 22 did not stick, ultimately fading to fourth before the end of the 30-lapper. The Gettysburg, Pennsylvania-native kicked-off the evening with the fastest time during qualifying time trials, as well as a heat race win.

One night prior, Dietrich put on an impressive rally from 11th to finish fifth at Port Royal Speedway; a one spot improvement from his Keith Kauffman Classic result on April 17.

“It feels good to put together a solid weekend,” Danny Dietrich said. “There’s a lot of money on the line in May, so if we had to pick a time to get hot and build momentum, it would be now. I can’t thank my team enough for their hard work this season. We’ve been dealt just about everything so far this year, but the guys keep working and keep moving forward. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.”

Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing will continue their 2021 campaign with another tripleheader in the Keystone State, this time setting aim on Williams Grove Speedway, Lincoln Speedway, and BAPS Motor Speedway on April 30 through May 2, respectively.

Whittall scores first podium of season during Open Wheel Madness at Port Royal

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

VINCENTOWN, N.J. (April 26, 2021) – Scoring what is officially his top result of the season thus far, Vincentown, New Jersey’s Justin Whittall turned a lot of heads on Saturday evening at the Port Royal Speedway “Speed Palace,” and rightfully so, as the Garden State native not only nailed down his first top-five of 2021, but he contended for a victory in the process.

Whittall, driver of the JW Motorsports, JG Kronenberger Fine Jewelry, Mid-Atlantic Transport, Brotherton Brewing Company, Beechwood Landscape Architecture and Construction LLC, Pioneer Auto Body, Worldwide Bearings, FK Rod Ends, Stilo Helmets, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Enterprise, Ground Blind Boys, No. 67 sprint car, started fourth on Port Royal Speedway’s Open Wheel Madness grid, kicking things off with a victory during his respective heat race.

“It felt really good to knock out that first podium finish of the season. Our team needed that and hopefully we can put this momentum to good use, especially with so many big races on our schedule in May,” Justin Whittall explained, who commutes from south-central New Jersey to central Pennsylvania each and every weekend to battle with the infamous Pennsylvania Posse. “The track ended up getting really wide and slick. Those are the surfaces we like to race on. They are a little more challenging to race on, but I think it makes the racing a lot better.”

With just a handful of laps checked off the counter, Whittall was able to power forward and drive by Kody Lehman for second, next setting his aim on race leader, Tyler Reeser. While Whittall pressured Reeser for the top spot, Steve Buckwalter entered the picture and drove by each of them, ultimately claiming the lead forcing Whittall to take a seat in third.

Not settling for third just yet, Whittall regained momentum and eventually made a move on Reeser for second with 13 to go, using the very bottom groove to sneak by the No. 35 at the entrance of turn three. Unfortunately, a bobble behind a lapped car with two to go forced Whittall out of his preferred groove allowing Port Royal’s Dylan Cisney to sneak by. Buckwalter held on to win, followed by Cisney and Whittall.

Justin Whittall and JW Motorsports will continue their 2021 campaign with another Williams Grove Speedway and Port Royal Speedway double on Friday and Saturday, April 30-May 1.

Gravel Guides Big Game Motorsports to Sweep of World of Outlaws Bristol Throwdown

Inside Line Promotions - BRISTOL, Tenn. (April 26, 2021) - Last weekend showcased a dream performance by Big Game Motorsports driver David Gravel, who swept the World of Outlaws Bristol Throwdown at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Gravel set a new track record en route to sweeping the night on Friday when the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series made its long-awaited return to the famed pavement bullring that was covered in dirt. The $25,000-to-win finale was delayed from Saturday to Sunday because of wet weather, but Gravel and the team remained stout by capitalizing on traffic to make a late-race pass to garner the feature win.

"Going into it I didn't know if a lot of guys were going to do some wild stuff to try to make their cars go fast," Gravel said. "We did a couple of little things to make sure we had a lot of speed. After the practice day went really well (on Thursday) I felt pretty confident going into the weekend."

Gravel established a new track record - featuring an average speed of more than 138 miles per hour - to open Friday's program, which was the first World of Outlaws race at Bristol Motor Speedway since June 2001. Gravel then won both his heat race and the dash from the pole position to set himself up for success in the 25-lap A Main.

"You wanted to be up front," he said. "In big track racing track position is extremely important. Sometimes the car is tight and sometimes it's loose when you're behind the people. It's just not consistent so you don't know what's going to happen when you're behind someone. Luckily we didn't have to deal with a lot of dirty air."

Gravel took the lead on Lap 3 and pulled away. Traffic made things a bit hairy for Gravel, who took his time making the right passes.

"I couldn't pass Tyler Courtney in traffic," he said. "He set a good pace and was running the top well. I tried to run a decent pace and not make any big mistakes. I didn't want to hand the win to someone. I tried to manage the race the best I could. I'm sure that allowed people behind me to make up ground. Then with the caution coming out and having clean air the car felt amazing. I was wide open and locked down."

A late-race caution allowed Gravel a clean track for the closing laps and he took advantage by picking up his second triumph of the season.

"It was always talked about and you watched on YouTube and played the video game," Gravel said in reference to racing at Bristol Motor Speedway. "It looked like a surreal thing that would never happen again. It was satisfying and cool to win in the return to Bristol. It'll probably take a while to settle in."

Gravel added to the special weekend on Sunday when he qualified second quickest, won a heat race and placed second in the dash to again line up on the front row for the main event.

"After our performance on Friday that built a lot of confidence and on Sunday when we were second quick and didn't get the track record in qualifying we were almost depressed," he said. "That shows where our qualifying program is on big tracks. I've been saying that I think our big track program is really good and that showed this weekend."

Gravel ran second for the majority of the race with a brief stint in third, but he reeled in the leader in traffic as the laps wound down.

"Logan (Schuchart) was running up the track in traffic and I was gaining on the bottom," he said. "Like how (Aaron) Reutzel closed on us in traffic on Friday, I did the same thing with Logan. Sometimes it's better running second. I had no idea what lap it was. I didn't know it was coming to the white when I passed Logan. I was just running hard. I was wide open around there and seeing what would happen and it all worked out."

Gravel took the lead with three laps remaining to garner his 61 st career World of Outlaws win. The strong weekend also moved him into second place in the championship standings - only 60 points out of the lead.

Next up for the team will be a trip to Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill., on Thursday prior to the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown at I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Mo., on Friday and Saturday. It marks the first Outlaws event at the track since 1986.

Dominic Scelzi Earns Fifth-Place Result in Return to Ocean Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - WATSONVILLE, Calif. (April 26, 2021) - Dominic Scelzi improved his feature finish during a pair of visits to Ocean Speedway the last two weekends.

Scelzi invaded the bullring for Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo action, scoring a sixth-place showing during his season debut on April 16 before topping that with a fifth-place run last Friday.

"We want to run there three times before the NARC Series goes there so we have a good game plan," he said. "They have changed the shape of the track and cut some banking out of it. I was expecting it to be a little different, but it was a lot different. We had really good speed and the car felt good last Friday so that's a positive."

Scelzi qualified 11th quickest and won a heat race before he placed fifth in the dash on April 16. That lined him up on the inside of the third row for the main event. He battled for a top five throughout the feature before ending sixth, which was his 12th top 10 in 13 races to start the season.

"We weren't very good in qualifying, but that started us on the front row in our heat race," he said. "We won that to get into the dash, but we weren't very good in the dash or in the feature. The track was hooked up and rough. We went back this week to try to get ourselves a little better and we were a lot better."

Scelzi qualified sixth quickest to open the program on Friday.

"We went out pretty early and the track still had some grease so that hurt us a little," he said. "We finished third in our heat race and that lined us up 10th for the feature. We just worked our way forward throughout the race. We were all over second, third and fourth at the end. It was really hard to pass. I felt like pretty much every yellow fell at the wrong time for us. We'd get by someone and the yellow would come out. There wasn't room to get by guys until late in the feature. We were pleased to make the progress we did."

The fifth-place outing was Scelzi's ninth top five of the season.

The team plans on heading to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., this weekend for the Spring Nationals Bill Brownell Memorial on Friday and the David Tarter Memorial on Saturday with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

"I wasn't there all of last year so I'm not sure if the track has changed," Scelzi said. "It's good to see these places for the first time with Jimmy (Carr). We're also racing there a couple of times with the NARC Series this year so we want to get dialed in before those races."

QUICK RESULTS -

KENNY EDKIN RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE FOR LARRY JACKSON MEMORIAL VICTORY

YORK HAVEN, Pa.: To say Kenny Edkin has been struggling at BAPS Motor Speedway this season would be an overstatement.

The problem is that Edkin has won so much over the last two seasons that Super Sportsman fans have grown accustomed to seeing the Marysville driver in Victory early and often.

Instead, Edkin has three solid top-five finishes in three events. On Saturday, he improved on those efforts and bagged his first victory of the season in the 30-Lap Larry Jackson Nationals.

The win was Edkin’s first of the season. It was a big one, as he earned $2,569 and a big novelty check to put on the wall.

“We’ve been in the top five every night, but it was nice to close one out,” Edkin said. “We’ve just had a lot of bad luck, if you want to call it bad luck and believe in that stuff. Things kind of fell our way, so I guess tonight was our night.

“I like these big-check races. They could pay $1 or $10,000. You see all the Sprint Car guys brag about those big checks, so it’s pretty special to win a check race.”

Edkin lined up fourth on the grid, but he slid past Tony Jackson and Matt Ondek to take over second on the first lap. Meanwhile, pole-sitter Chase Gutshall blasted out front to take the lead.

Gutshall was setting a pretty good pace, but Edkin was lurking. The two-time defending champion didn't stalk the leader long, wrestling the top spot away by the time the leaders completed Lap 5.

“We’ve been searching a lot,” Edkin said. “This is actually our back-up car. We usually carry it up in the loft just in case something happens.

“We changed some motor stuff around just to catch up with these guys. The 30-Car, 77, and 70D, they all have pretty big powerhouses, so we’re out there just running 90s technology. We finally put together a motor to run with those guys, and we put it in Victory Lane the second week with it.”

The rest of the race distance belonged to Edkin. He opened up a big lead over his fellow competitors, who were left to battle for second.

Russ Mitten won that scrum on the sixth circuit, slipping by Gutshall for the runner-up position. The next time he saw Edkin was after the race was complete.

Edkin sliced through lapped traffic and was gone. By the time he took the checker, he was 7.178 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

“Confidence is a big thing,” Edkin said. “When I’ve gotten wins in the past, they’ve kind of rattled off after that.

“Every week is tough, and we are still searching. I wouldn’t say we were 100 percent. We still have a way to go, but it definitely felt good being back on the frontstretch.”

Mitten finished second, with Gutshall slipping to third. Tony Jackson and 14th-place starter Scott Dellinger completed the top five.

Chris Meleason finished seventh, advancing 17 spots to claim MAC Tools/Jackson Lawn Care Hard Charger honors. John Edkin earned the Jackson Lawn Care Hard Luck Award.

In the USAC Sprint Car main event, C.J. Leary took the lead on the initial start and held off Justin Grant and Chris Windom to claim the 30-Lap affair.

The event featured two stoppages, the worst of which came on Lap 21, when Ricky Lewis and Brandon Mattox got upside down. Windom made a bid for the lead on the restart, but Leary was up to task in Turn 4 on Lap 21 and came away with the lead and the eventual win.

Grant got past Windom for the runner-up finish. Alex Bright and Brady Bacon followed and completed the top five.

Johnny Palm won an entertaining 20-Lap Superior Homes Extreme Stock main event that featured four lead changes.

Bob Scott led the first lap before Bill Powell took over. Palm won the three-car battle on Lap 5 but lost the lead on Lap 12 for one circuit.

Powell regained the lead on the 13th circuit and held it the rest of the way to take the win over Powell. Scott finished third, with Austin Hogue and Andrew Hogue completing the top five.

First Williams Grove World Of Outlaws Invasion Of 2021 Just Two Weeks Away Can Brad Sweet Overcome In Morgan Cup Weekend To Claim First Grove Win?

4/25/21

Mechanicsburg – The first assault of the season by the NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series on the Pennsylvania Posse is just two weeks away at Williams Grove Speedway.

Slated for May 14 and 15, H & N Landscaping of Mechanicsburg will present a two-day outlaws stand at Williams Grove.

Adult general admission for each night of the Williams Grove outlaws stand is set at $30 with youth ages 13 –20 admitted for $15.

Kids ages 12 and under are always admitted for FREE at Williams Grove.

Both of the weekend’s racing programs will pay $10,000 to win with Friday’s main event going 25 laps while the Saturday feature will go for 30.

Saturday’s winner will receive an additional 5K to be declared the 2021 Morgan Cup Champion to go along with bragging rights as Morgan Cup Champion for a year of either the World of Outlaws series stars or those of the Pennsylvania Posse.

Outlaws champion Brad Sweet, “The Big Cat,” of Grass Valley California will enter the fracas in firm control of the World of Outlaws season point standings as he vies for his third series title in a row at the wheel of Kasey Kahne’s No. 49.

Sweet has five wins on the outlaws season to date although several other drivers have scored including Sheldon Haudenschild, David Gravel, Logan Schuchart, James McFadden, Carson Macedo and Aaron Reutzel.

However Williams Grove Speedway hasn’t exactly been kind to Sweet over the years as the Californian has yet to crack the winner’s circle despite making it onto the podium on a few occasions.

Sweet will be trying to change that during the May 14/15 outlaws and posse match-up.

Aaron Reutzel, aboard the Roth No. 83, may be one to watch with the outlaws when he gets back to Williams Grove in two weeks as the Texas native has really learned his way around the big half-mile in recent seasons.

Reutzel became the first and remains the only All Stars driver to take an All Stars win at the oval since he took his first track chckers back in 2019 before going on to claim two more.

At Williams Grove, no driver has been dominant with four main events to date producing four different winners including Freddie Rahmer, Justin Peck Kyle Larson and Lucas Wolfe.

Rahmer is the current oval point leader.

Perennial outlaws killer at Williams Grove, posse pilot Lance Dewease seems poised to score his elusive 100th career speedway win and nothing would please the Fayetteville flyer more than to do so over the outlaws big dogs.

Advanced reserved seat tickets for all 2021 Williams Grove Speedway and the NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series events are available exclusively through the NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws.

Fans who wish to obtain any reserved seats for any of the six outlaws events at the track in 2021 can purchase tickets via the official outlaws official website located at www.worldofoutlaws.com/tix or by calling 1.844.DIRT.TIX.

MARKS RETURNS IN HIS OWN SPRINT CAR TO WIN SECOND CAREER RAY TILLEY CLASSIC SUNDAY AT SELINSGROVE;

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – In only his second race back behind the wheel of his own sprint car, Brent Marks of Myerstown scored a convincing victory in Sunday night’s 30-lap Ray Tilley Classic for 410 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway.

Marks first won the Tilley Classic in 2013 and became the first repeat winner of the event held in honor of the speedway’s all-time career leading sprint car winner on Icon Legacy Custom Modular Homes Night. He earned $5,088 for the win in the No. 19M in the first race of the season for the Lelands.com 410 sprint cars.

Danny Dietrich of Gettysburg was the Fast Tees Fast Qualifier with a lap time of 16.692.

Dan Stone of Thompson dueled with Andrew Yoder of Selinsgrove for the first half of the 25-lap super late model feature before driving to his first victory of the season and eight career at Selinsgrove worth $3,000.

Selinsgrove Speedway is back in action at 6 p.m. this Saturday, May 1, with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series in the Riteway Sealing & Paving “Battle of the Groves” for 360 sprint cars plus limited late models, and roadrunners. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. with grandstand gates at 4 p.m.

Polesitter Anthony Macri pulled into the lead at the start of the 410 sprint car feature. Macri was chased by second-place starter Brent Marks and third-place starter Danny Dietrich.

By lap six, Marks began to pressure Macri for the lead and exchanged the front spot several times with sliders through the turns. On the eighth lap, Marks took the lead with an inside pass in turn three.

At the halfway point, Dietrich got by Macri for second in turn two. With 10 laps to race, Marks led Dietrich, Macri, fourth-place starter Justin Peck, and fifth-place starter Chase Dietz.

The race’s first and only caution unfurled on lap 23 when Tyler Ross’ sprint car fell off the pace on the frontstretch. On the ensuing restart, Dietrich tried to slide underneath Marks for the lead but lost the runner-up position to Macri. On the 27th circuit, Peck got by Dietrich for the third position.

While Marks and Macri were setting a blistering pace, 10th-place starter Dylan Cisney made a last-lap pass by Dietz for the fifth position. Marks took the checkered flag by 1.6 seconds over Macri, Peck, Dietrich, and Cisney.

Front row starters Dan Stone and Andrew Yoder dueled for the early lead for several laps until A. Yoder pulled ahead. While running the highline, A. Yoder kept his racer in the lead with Stone drawing a bead on the bottom of the race track.

On the 11th circuit, Stone got a good run off turn two and pulled alongside A. Yoder again in turns three and four. While drag racing for the lead, Stone secured the front spot with an inside pass in turn three on lap 12.

With 10 laps remaining, sixth-place starter Jeff Rine began to show speed and advanced to the second position. In the final five laps, Rine attempted to reel in Stone to no avail. At the checkered flag, Stone’s margin of victory was 2.5 seconds over Rine, third-place starter Dylan Yoder, fourth-place starter Gene Knaub and A. Yoder.

The 2019 race was rained out and last year’s event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Title sponsor RiteWay Sealing & Paving of Selinsgrove provides residential and commercial customers with high-quality asphalt sealing and maintenance. The company, with ten years of experience, also offers concrete services.

The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour will kick off the Eastern swing at Williams Grove Speedway the night before at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 30, in an open wheel doubleheader with the 410 sprint cars.

SELINSGROVE SPEEDWAY: A Motorsports Tradition for Generations

Selinsgrove Speedway’s grand motorsports tradition began July 20, 1946, when Bill Holland of Philadelphia won the first race. Since that historic day, Holland went on to win the 1949 Indy 500, and many of motorsports’ most famous drivers have turned laps at the iconic half-mile dirt track designed by legendary Hollywood stuntman and race car driver Joie Chitwood. The speedway, celebrating its momentous 75th anniversary in 2021, will continue its legacy of rip-roaring open wheel and stock car racing this season and for future generations!
