Starks Posts Podium Performance During First Race at Cottage Grove Since 2017

Inside Line Promotions - COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 21, 2021) - Trey Starks highlighted a Western Sprint Tour doubleheader at Cottage Grove Speedway by earning a podium result last Friday.

Starks was solid during his first time at the track since April 2017, qualifying fourth quickest and placing fifth in a heat race to lock into the 12th starting position in the A Main.

"It was good to get back to Cottage Grove," he said. "We had a decent qualifying effort, but we didn't gain spots like we needed to in the heat race. That didn't give us the best points so we missed the dash.

"In the feature we worked our way up until the rubber came about halfway. We were fifth or sixth and then took what we could get in the rubber and ended up getting to third. It was a solid night. We just needed to start further up toward the front and I think we'd have had a good chance to win."

Starks returned to the quarter-mile track on Saturday. He timed in second quickest and maneuvered from sixth to fourth place in a heat race, which earned enough points to advance into the dash.

"We had a good qualifying effort and we picked off a couple of spots in the heat to get us in the dash," he said. "We drew the third starting spot and got to second on the white-flag lap. That put us starting outside front row for the feature.

"We got out to the lead on the start. About 10 laps in we cut a right rear tire. We came into the work area and changed the tire. We restarted 18 th or 19th and got back to fifth with six laps to go when we blew another right rear. That was it for us. We were really fast in the feature, but just had no luck."

Starks was credited with a 17th-place result.

Next up is a return to Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., this Friday and Saturday for the Bob's Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals.
