ST. HELENA, Calif. In addition, Abreu, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Rowdy Energy/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Self Made/Salty’s BBQ/No. 24 sprint car, finished sixth during his Friday night stop at Ocean Speedway, and fifth during the four-race finale at Petaluma Speedway on Sunday, August 29. Impressive enough, Abreu advanced a total of eight feature positions during the Ocean and Petaluma stops, simultaneously bumping his season’s top-five total to a hefty 28.

“I’m proud of my guys. It’s not easy to relocate a team from the Midwest back to the West Coast, but my guys did it and persevered in a big way. 2021 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: Fourth | 7922 points [222 points behind championship leader, Brad Sweet]

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (August 30, 2021) – Ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, Donny Schatz put together an impressive stretch of results during his recent three-race campaign, capping the North Dakota, Nebraska, and South Dakota road trip with three straight top-five finishes, one of which a victory – the 302nd of his illustrious World of Outlaws career.

Schatz’ three race stretch commenced with make-up action at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on Wednesday, August 25. The nearby Fargo-native finished fourth at the River Cities short track, earning his way into the evening’s main event by way of runner-up finish during his respective heat race.

Just two nights later, Schatz was back in World of Outlaws victory lane, earning the aforementioned victory during a Friday night stop at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska. Schatz started fourth on the 30-lap, $10,000-to-win grid and was in command by lap 11, earning the point position over Jason Johnson Racing’s Carson Macedo. Impressive enough, Schatz’ margin of victory reached the three-second mark, accumulating an I-80 Speedway victory for the first time in his career.

“Starting fourth, just tried to make the bottom work from the word go,” Schatz said in I-80 Speedway victory lane. “I didn’t really know if that was going to work or not, but I stayed there and stayed there to figure out how to get it going. It worked.”

Although Schatz was unable to repeat his winning ways on Sunday during a stop at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, South Dakota, the driver of the Tony Sewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Carquest Auto Parts/Curb Records/Ford Performance/Sage Fruit/Digital Ally/Advance Auto Parts/Rush Truck Centers/Absolute Automation and Security/Hunt Brothers Pizza/J&J Auto Racing/No. 15 sprint car did finish second, capping what was a near-perfect evening that included the fastest time during qualifying time trials, and heat race victory, as well as a dash victory.

Up next on the schedule, Donny Schatz, Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, and the rest of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will return to Washington for the first time since 2019, set to headline action during the inaugural Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals at Skagit Speedway on September 3-5. By Fully Injected Motorsports:

JONESTOWN, Pa. (August 30, 2021) – In what was, perhaps, his best stretch of results since returning from Australia, Brock Zearfoss and Brock Zearfoss Racing capped their recent road trip through the upper Midwest with a trio of top-ten outcomes, finishing no worse than eighth during visits to River Cities Speedway, I-80 Speedway, and Black Hills Speedway on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, August 25, 27, and 29, respectively.

Bumping his season’s World of Outlaws top-ten total to 18, Zearfoss finished eighth, sixth, and sixth, during the North Dakota, Nebraska, and South Dakota road trip, advancing a total of six feature positions including a three-spot bump at River Cities on Wednesday.

Although all of his weekend results were impressive in their own right, Zearfoss’ overall performance at I-80 Speedway on Friday topped the cake, kicking off the evening with the second fastest time during qualifying time trials, all before finishing third during his respective heat race.

“Things are getting good right now for our team and we have no intention of allowing this momentum to escape. Hobaugh seventh in Lernerville’s Spectacular; Lernerville and Tri-City ahead

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

CHICORA, Pa. (August 30, 2021) – George Hobaugh’s visit to Lernerville Speedway for the $4,000-to-win Sprint Car Spectacular may not have ended in victory, but the Western Pennsylvania open wheeler out of Chicora resolved some ongoing set-up issues, eventually putting on a rally from row seven to finish seventh. The Hobaugh Motorsports team will have an opportunity to test their new found “sweet spot” during a return to Lernerville Speedway on Friday, September 3.

“It feels good to rally from 13th to finish seventh. I think we were better than where we finished, but we ran out of laps,” Hobaugh said, driver of the Krill Recycling, Laskowski Plumbing, Ridgeview Security, Hobaugh’s Auto Parts, Colliers Custom Kitchen and Bath, No. 40 sprint car. “We found some things that worked really well during the feature. We’ve struggled some at Lernerville in the past, but we think we’ve answered a lot of questions. We’ll give it a go next week.”

In addition to Lernerville Speedway, Georgo Hobaugh and Hobaugh Motorsports will make the tow to Tri-City Raceway Park in Franklin, Pennsylvania, over Labor Day weekend, set to participate in its two-day special on September 4-5. The weekend will award a total winner’s share equaling $7,000; $3,000 on Saturday and $4,000 on Sunday.

Certainly no stranger to the Venango County oval, Hobaugh owns a pair of podium finishes at Tri-City in 2021, one of which a runner-up result.

DIETRICH SURGES FROM 10TH TO WIN THE ALL STAR JOHNNY MACKISON CLASH AT BAPS

HANOVER, PA - Danny Dietrich didn’t press the issue in the early stages of Sunday’s Johnny Mackison Classic at BAPS Motor Speedway.

Instead, he was patient. It didn’t matter that he started 10th on the grid, he knew he had a fast car and the right attitude in the cockpit to get to the front.

And once Dietrich started riding the lip in Turns 1 and 2, he started picking off cars. That led to an epic drive to the front and a $5,000 victory in the 30-Lap FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions main event.

“We needed this bad,” Dietrich said. “It’s not that we’re slow. Everybody knows that we have speed, we’re up front it seems every night, but we just don’t get the wins. I wish we could start on the front row. We haven’t been on the front row except for maybe three or four times all year.

“Tonight, we were starting 10th, and I just didn’t care. We’re going to drive to the front. When the track is good, you can have that attitude. The track was phenomenal tonight, and when you have a track you can race on, it’s easy to get excited about it. Tonight, it was pretty spot on.”

The Gettysburg driver started 10th because he hit the outside wall in Turn 1 in the Dash and broke the W-Link. Still, Dietrich didn't surge to the front. Instead, he took a more methodical approach.

Pole-sitter Freddie Rahmer got the jump on Justin Peck at the start, but it was wiped out before the field could complete Lap 1. Bill Balog got into the back of Kyle Reinhardt and sent him spinning on the frontstretch. Tyler Ross also flipped, bringing out the red flag.

A bleeder fell out of Justin Peck’s left rear, which sent him to the work area. It moved Ryan Smith up to the front row for the complete restart, but that didn’t stop Rahmer from getting another good jump.

Hunter Schuerenberg started fourth and also showed early speed. He drove past Smith on the backstretch on Lap 3 to take the runner-up spot. One lap later, he was on Rahmer’s tail after Aaron Bollinger slowed with a flat tire.

Dietrich started to make his way to the front on Lap 11. Running the lip in Turns 1 and 2, he closed on Anthony Macri and pulled a slider entering Turn 3 to take over fifth.

“Once I was able to clear some guys and get a rhythm, I was just really good at sliding people in three and four,” Dietrich said. “I learned where I needed to land to get a run off the corner so they couldn’t get back by me. One and two, that speaks for itself. I just wasn’t lifting.”

Schuerenberg, finally, wore Rahmer down on Lap 13 and pulled the slider through the third and fourth corner. He hit lapped traffic one lap later and started to distance himself from the field.

Dietrich’s entry speed into Turn 1 and at the exit of Turn 2 was incredible. And he didn’t miss the cushion, unlike in the Dash when he got into the fence.

Just past the halfway point, Dietrich blew by Smith for third. By the time Lap 20 was scored, he blew through Turns 3 and 4 and passed Rahmer for second.

When Dietrich took second, he was 2.016 seconds behind Schuerenberg. Four laps later, that advantage was down to .672 seconds.

Schuerenberg had no chance. Dietrich was fast, but he was patient. And when Lap 28 rolled around, the PA Posse standout pulled the trigger on a slide job through Turns 3 and 4 to take the lead.

“If I didn’t run out of laps, he was a sitting duck,” Dietrich said. “He was really good in the middle of the race, and I was watching those guys to see how far they got away.

“I saw Freddie was leading, and I was coming off of four, and he was in one and two. I got around some cars that you have to follow for a lap or two and be a little more patient. After that, I just got in a rhythm. It just feels good.”

Once out front, Dietrich was gone. He took the checker by 1.186 seconds over Schuerenberg, who settled for second. Smith was third, with Rahmer coming home fourth. Anthony Macri completed the top five in the main event.

In the 305 Sprint Car main, George Riden followed Drew Young for two laps before making his move to the front and claiming the win in the 20-Lap feature.

Young started on the pole and beat Riden to the stripe. He led the first two circuits before Riden surged into the lead.

Getting to Victory Lane wasn’t easy for Riden. He held off a charging Domenic Melair by a mere .150 seconds on the last lap. Derek Hauck, Tim Iulg, and Doug Dodson completed the top five.

KEVIN GUTSHALL TAKES 3RD ANNUAL BRITTON FINKENBINDER MEMORIAL AT BAPS

YORK HAVEN, PA - Kevin Gutshall had one thing playing through his head during the 40-Lap Britton Finkenbinder Memorial.

“Save tires.”

You can’t burn the tires off the car in the early stages of a race to get to the front. Instead, it’s about patience, managing the race, and having enough rubber at the end to still have speed for a strong finish.

Gutshall had plenty, which is why he captured the Third annual Britton Finkenbinder Memorial for Wingless Super Sportsman in a masterful 40-Lap performance at BAPS Motor Speedway. He earned $3,500 for the triumph.

“It was awesome,” Gutshall said. “I wanted to save my tires, because I didn’t know how they would last

“This is the first time we’ve run this tire, so I’m pretty happy. Thanks to my crew, thanks to Federated, and especially Amber and 34 Motorsports. It’s amazing.”

Tony Jackson lined up on the outside pole and beat Bob Gutshall at the start to lead the first nine laps. Bill Brian Jr. wasted little time getting to the front, surging from sixth to first by the time Lap 10 was scored.

Cliff Brian Jr. was the show throughout the race. He charged from 20th to second and took the lead on the 12th circuit. Bill Brian Jr., Cliff’s uncle, returned the favor on Lap 14 and kickstarted an entertaining battle that lasted the next 20 laps.

There were three more lead changes between the family members. Cliff Brian Jr. came out ahead on Lap 24 and held the top spot until the 33rd circuit.

A caution on Lap 31 closed up the field and put Gutshall in the game. He took advantage and went from fourth to second on Lap 32. Two laps later, he slipped by Cliff Brian Jr. and took the lead.

But Cliff Brian wasn’t going away. He retook the spot on the 37th circuit, only to give way to Gutshall for the last time on Lap 37.

“Cliff is a great driver,” Gutshall said. “To beat him is pretty good. He’s a young kid, he’s coming up, and I look for him to be someone to be reckoned with in the future.

“I just kept it straight, and he gave me room ... more than most people do up here. I just made it work.”

Once Gutshall took the lead, he was able to open up some distance on the field. He took the win by 1.347 seconds over Cliff Brian Jr., who also earned Hard Charger honors in the main event.

Billy Brian Jr., Scott Dellinger, and Bob Gutshall completed the top five. Gutshall set quick time for the 27-car field with a lap of 18.289.

In the regular BAPS Winged Super Sportsman portion of the program, Russ Mitten took the lead on Lap 8 and sped away to the victory.

Davey Walsh took the lead at the drop of the green flag and paced the first four circuits. Timmie Barrick wrestled the lead away on Lap 5, with Mitten, who started sixth, taking second on Lap 7.

Mitten wasted little time getting to the point. He zipped by Barrick for the lead on Lap 8 and cruised to the 4.880-second victory.

Tyler Wolford, Kenny Edkin, Frankie Herr, and Barrick completed the top five. Mike Enders was the Mac Tools Hard Charger, advancing from 22nd to 11th.

Chad Smith topped the 16-car field in the Creekside Auto Sales Limited Late Model main event after a tight battle with Joey Hoffer.

Smith started on the outside pole and grabbed the lead. Hoffer, who started second, stayed close and took his turn at the front on Lap 15. It lasted all of one lap, as Smith was back out front on the 16th circuit.

At the checker, it was Smith by .360 seconds over Hoffer. Dan Zechman, Jed Latshaw, and Wayne Pfeil completed the top five.

The Limited Stock main had a last-lap pass for the win, with Ricky Weaver Jr. beating Matt Worley by a mere .194 seconds at the stripe.

Worley led the first 14 laps from his second starting spot. Weaver, who started fourth, shot to the front in Turns 3 and 4 to escape with the narrow win.

Impressive Sprint Car Career Of Todd Shaffer To Be Feted Friday At Williams Grove

8/29/21

Mechanicsburg Friday’s sprint car program at Williams Grove Speedway will honor the career of three-time track champion, “Mr. Excitement,” Todd Shaffer of Millerstown.

The 410 sprint car drivers will vie for $6,088 to win in the 25-lap feature as part of the 2021 Diamond Series at the track.

In addition, up for grabs in the sprint car feature will be the “Mr. Excitement Hard Charger Award,” paying $350 as sponsored by Shaffer’s pit crew members from throughout his career.

Todd Shaffer scored his first career win at Williams Grove Speedway on July 3, 1988 and scored his last in an All Stars event on May 8, 2009, during his run to a final track title.

Shaffer began his career in sprint cars in 1986 and along the way he picked up Williams Grove wins in the season opener in 2009, the Jack Gunn Memorial in 2000 and in 2001 and in the Mith Smith Memorial in 1998.

He also scored another Williams Grove win with the All Stars, in 1997, as well as taking a score over the World of Outlaws Division II series in 2002.

Additional Grove wins came in the Daryl Gohn Memorial in 1993 and in honor of Maynard Yingst in 1998.

In total, Todd Shaffer recorded 38 sprint car victories at Williams Grove Speedway, placing him just inside the top 10 on the all-time oval career win list.

His track championships, all for car owners Gary and Patty Beam of Gardners, came in 1995, 2007 and in 2009.

Shaffer also earned a Williams Grove Diamond Series title in 2009.

Across his entire carere at all ovals, the Millerstown pilot piled up 196 total sprint car wins.

His best season at Williams Grove Speedway was in 2001 when he put up a total of six victories. The 1997 season offered five wins.

His best finish in the Williams Grove National Open was a second to Donny Schatz in 2007.

Aside from Williams Grove, Shaffer earned track titles at Port Royal, Sharon and Selinsgrove Speedways to go along with marquee wins at Port Royal, Sharon, Selinsgrove and Lincoln.

Other than himself in 1986, car owners for Shaffer came in the form of the Beams, Leon Wintermyer, Al Hamilton, Jesse Keen, Jim and Laura Allebach, Fred Rahmer and Dave Middleswarth.

To celebrate Shaffer’s career, a Beam Team reunion of sorts including car owner Patty Beam will be held in the speedway infield from 5:45 – 6:45 pm on race night.

The pre-race action will include a live Facebook broadcast on Beer Hill Gang TV that will be simulcast on the speedway public address system.

Good friends Fred Rahmer and Lance Dewease are also expected to be a part of the celebration.

Danny Dietrich hunts down Hunter Schuerenberg for BAPS All Star victory in Johnny Mackison Clash

YORK HAVEN, Pa. (August 29, 2021) - Not deterred by his fifth-row starting position, “Double-D” Danny Dietrich put on a show Sunday night at BAPS Motor Speedway near York Haven, Pennsylvania, and ultimately charged his way through the A-Main field to snag his second FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 main event victory of the 2021 season. The Johnny Mackison Clash score, earning the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania-native a $5,000 payday, commenced from tenth on the grid, climbing his way to a top-five spot by lap 12, all before tracking down race leader, Hunter Schuerenberg, to steal command with just two circuits remaining. Dietrich’s All Star win pushes his career total to 15; a first-ever at BAPS Motor Speedway.

Hunter Schuerenberg held on to finish second, followed by Ryan Smith, Freddie Rahmer, who led the first 12 circuits, and 12th-starting Anthony Macri.

“Hats off to the track prep team here tonight. This is the best this track has been in a long time...there was a top, middle, and bottom...that was a lot of fun,” Danny Dietrich said, driver of the Gary Kauffman Racing, Weikert’s Livestock, Sweeney Cars, Pace Performance, Self Made, No. 48 sprint car. “We needed a win pretty badly. Our schedule has been all over the place this year, so to get this win close to home makes things even more special. We’ll celebrate this one tonight and get ourselves ready for a busy weekend next weekend.”

After getting by Freddie Rahmer with a slider on lap 13, Schuerenberg was off to the races, scooting away from the rest of the frontrunners even as traffic entered the picture on lap 15. Meanwhile, Dietrich was a force to be reckoned with. The former Central PA Sprint Cars points champion battled his way to fifth by lap 12, then getting by Bill Balog for fourth two circuits later. By lap 20, Dietrich had worked his way to the runner-up position, sliding by Ryan Smith on lap 20 to secure the position. Schuerenberg did his best hide and seek impression in traffic, but Dietrich was too quick to outrun.

By lap 26, Dietrich was all over Schuerenberg for the race lead, utilizing the top of turns one and two, as well as the bottom of turn three, to make up most of his ground. An eventual slider over Schuerenberg on lap 28 would seal the deal.

The All Star Circuit of Champions will continue their 2021 campaign with an Attica Raceway Park doubleheader on Friday and Saturday, September 3-4. Dubbed the Attica Ambush, the two-day program will award a total winner’s share equaling $15,000; $5,000 on Friday and $10,000 on Saturday.

Dover, Yeigh and Lambertz Victorious at Huset's Speedway During Ace Ready Mix & Myrl and Roy's Paving Night

Inside Line Promotions - BRANDON, S.D. (Aug. 29, 2021) - Jack Dover, Cory Yeigh and John Lambertz were triumphant on Sunday evening during Ace Ready Mix and Myrl and Roy's Paving Night at Huset's Speedway.

Yeigh also became the first track champion of the season as his division-best five feature triumphs guided him to the Nordstrom's Automotive Late Model Street Stocks title.

The final feature of the night showcased a first-time winner as Dover led the distance of the Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association and Casey's 410 Sprint Cars presented by Big Frig A Main, which had two attempts at a green-white-checkered finish.

"I just knew I had to keep my composure," he said. "I know the history of this track and there's a lot of famous guys who've raced here and won here. My biggest thing is I'd never won a 410 race anywhere."

Although Dover led every lap, traffic with 10 laps to go set up several wild moments when Mark Dobmeier and Justin Henderson had opportunities to pounce. At one point Henderson edged ahead of Dover in turn two, but Dover found the rubber exiting the corner and that propelled him back into the top spot. He then saw the yellow flag after receiving the white flag twice, but Dover restarted strong and held on for the big win.

Dobmeier finished second with Henderson placing third, Brendan Mullen fourth and Dusty Zomer fifth.

Carson McCarl set quick time during qualifying before Mullen, Dobmeier and Jack Croaker scored heat race wins.

Jayke Glanzer led the first five laps of the Nordstrom's Automotive Late Model Street Stocks before Yeigh, who went to a backup car earlier in the night, took over the top spot on Lap 6. The route was on from that point as he pushed his advantage to 6.582 seconds by the time the checkered flag was waved. It capped his first career title at the track in style.

"It's pretty cool," he said. "Coming here as a kid I never thought this would happen, but here we are. I'll take wins any day, but this is pretty cool, too."

Zach Olivier rallied from 10th to a runner-up result with Dan Jensen third, Glanzer fourth and Ron Howe fifth.

Yeigh and Howe were the heat race winners.

Lambertz capitalized on a late-race restart to take the lead on Lap 14 en route to his second Wyffels Hybrids RaceSaver Sprint Car Series win of the season and sixth career at Huset's Speedway.

"Jesse Lindberg showed me the way so thank him for that," he said of knowing to move to a higher groove on the restart. "I gave her a shot and the car worked really good so I stayed up there. My hats off to (the track crew) for even getting to race tonight. They did a great job."

Brandon Bosma made a rally in the closing laps to earn the runner-up spot and close within 0.970 seconds of Lambertz. Taylor Ryan, who led the first 13 laps of the 20-lap feature, finished third. Ryan Bickett ended fourth and Nick Barger was fifth.

Lambertz, Micah Slendy and points leader Dusty Ballenger each won a heat race.
