2021 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: Fourth | 9176 points (236 points behind championship leader, Brad Sweet)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (September 27, 2021) – Although ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, Donny Schatz, was unable to attain his fourth and fifth victories of the 2021 Outlaws campaign, the Fargo, North Dakota-native did accomplish some consistency, concluding stops at Eldora Speedway and Lernerville Speedway with top-five outcomes and highlighting each of his recent starts with a third-place finish in Lernerville’s Commonwealth Clash on September 25.

By way of dash result, Schatz started the Commonwealth Clash 30-lapper in the exact same position as he finished, kicking off the program with the fourth-fastest qualifying time, followed by a heat race victory.

“That’s about as fast as I can ever remember going around this place,” Schatz said of Lernerville Speedway on Saturday night. “We were decent on the bottom, but then it just got so quick around the top. We keep improving little by little, though.”

One night prior to his visit to Western Pennsylvania, Schatz made his presence known in Eldora Speedway’s BeFour the Crowns Showdown, capping the evening with a fourth-place score, but not before leading the first 21 circuits. Despite his attempts to outrun the competition, Hanover, Pennsylvania’s Logan Schuchart came to call, getting by Schatz in traffic on lap 22 before escaping to a $10,000 payday. Schatz would eventually fade to fourth.

Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their 2021 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series campaign with Williams Grove Speedway’s National Open on Friday and Saturday, October 1-2. The two-day blockbuster will be headlined with a $75,000-to-win main event on Saturday; the weekend will ignite with a $10,000 preliminary.

On the hunt for lucky number seven, Donny Schatz is a six-time National Open champion at Williams Grove Speedway, scoring his most recent, also a $75,000 payday, in 2020. The victory was the richest on the 2020 World of Outlaws schedule.

Rico Abreu scores 4-Crown All Star victory; Williams Grove National Open on the horizon

Date: Friday, September 24th
Event: BeFour the Crowns Showdown
Series: World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series
Track: Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio)
Rico Abreu A-Main Finish (Start): DNQ

Date: Saturday, September 25th
Event: 4-Crown Nationals
Series: All Star Circuit of Champions
Track: Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio)
Rico Abreu A-Main Finish (Start): 1st (2nd)

ST. HELENA, Calif. (September 27, 2021) – In convincing fashion, nonetheless, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu secured his place in sprint car racing history books yet again, doing so by scoring the FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 portion of the annual 4-Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.

Abreu, now a three-time All Star winner at the World’s Greatest Dirt Track, led every circuit of the 30-lap contest, forced to withstand an early run in with traffic, as well as a late surge by Sam McGhee Motorsports’ Parker Price-Miller. The 4-Crown Nationals triumph earned the West Coast invader a $6,000 payday, now a ten-time All Star winner over the course of his career.

The victory was a perfect rebound after suffering from engine trouble during the World of Outlaws’ Befour the Crowns Showdown on Friday; Abeu did not qualify for the main event.

“I’m just so thankful for our supporters this year,” Rico Abreu said, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Rowdy Energy/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/XYZ Machining/Self Made Racing/No. 24 sprint car. “We’ve been battling through some inconsistent runs. We ended up making a lot of changes to this car tonight…having to change motors last night kinda put us behind on being ready for tonight. But I have to thank all of my guys. It’s an honor to be standing in victory lane again at Eldora Speedway…this place is so special to me. The fans, too…I get to see all of these faces and spend time with you guys. I enjoy every minute that I get to race here.”

Lining up second on the A-Main grid, Abreu earned the initial jump, cruising ahead to a comfortable lead over the course of the first seven circuits. Traffic came into play by lap eight, but Abreu’s line around Eldora Speedway’s notoriously thin cushion proved to be no match for the onslaught of slower cars. The main event’s first of two cautions appeared on lap 17 ultimately snapping Abreu’s near-straightaway advantage.

When action returned, it was Buch Motorsports’ Justin Peck applying the pressure, working the bottom and center of turns three and four with the intent to gain an edge on Abreu’s Rowdy Energy No. 24. Despite his attempts, Abreu scooted away, only to be halted again by a caution on lap 25.

The ensuing restart would see Parker Price-Miller make a jump from fourth to second, simultaneously switching his focus to Abreu. The Kokomo, Indiana-native was able to show Abreu his nose on a few occasions, but suffice it to say, Eldora’s victory lane stage belonged to Abreu.

Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing will continue their 2021 campaign with Williams Grove Speedway’s National Open featuring the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Friday and Saturday, October 1-2. The two-day blockbuster will be headlined with a $75,000-to-win main event on Saturday; the weekend will ignite with a $10,000 preliminary.

Home Sweet Home: Brock Zearfoss aims for success in Williams Grove Speedway’s National Open

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

JONESTOWN, Pa. (September 27, 2021) – Despite a tough two days during visits to Eldora Speedway and Lernerville Speedway, highlighting the trip with a 12th-place score during Lernerville’s Commonwealth Clash on Saturday, September 25, the “Jonestown Jet” Brock Zearfoss is finally home, ready to take on the Pennsylvania Posse, as well as his fellow Outlaws, in the two-day Williams Grove Speedway National Open.

Headlining action at the world-famous paperclip on Friday and Saturday, October 1-2, the two-day National Open will act as the final “crown jewel” on the 2021 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series schedule, concluding with a $75,000-to-win main event on Saturday night. Action will begin with a $10,000-to-win preliminary on Friday.

Brock Zearfoss is certainly no stranger to battling the Posse and World of Outlaws at the famed Williams Grove Speedway. In fact, the Jonestown, Pennsylvania-native is former Outlaws winner in Mechanicsburg, scoring a Summer Nationals preliminary victory in 2017.

Zearfoss will enter the Williams Grove Speedway National Open ninth in the World of Outlaws driver standings padded by 21 top-ten finishes.

“We had a great trip throughout the West Coast, but it’s great to be home…there’s no place like home,” Zearfoss said, driver of the Brock Zearfoss Racing, Moose’s LZ Bar & Grill, Heavy Equipment, Loaders & Parts Inc., C&D Rigging Inc., Meckley’s Limestone Products, Berkebile Oil Company, Klick Lewis Cars, J.P. Adamsky Trucking, X-1 Race Cars, No. 3Z sprint car. “Having the comfort of working from home will do wonders for the team, as well. The guys have been busting their butts, but now that we can work out of our own shop, we can really take the time to prepare and get things ready for the Williams Grove National Open. I’m excited to get back and see what we can do. It’s tough to think that it’s already October.”

Port Royal Speedway’s Nittany Showdown is also on the upcoming World of Outlaws agenda, set to take over the Juniata County Fairgrounds on Friday and Saturday, October 8-9. Much like Williams Grove, Zearfoss is by no means a stranger to the Port Royal “Speed Palace,” scoring a track championship in 2017.

Danny Dietrich second in Selinsgrove’s National Open; World of Outlaws visit to Williams Grove next

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (September 27, 2021) – Dietrich’s weekend results may not have ended in the manner he wanted, but the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania-native battled hard and added several marks to the stat book, knocking out another pair of top-ten finishes including a runner-up outcome in Selinsgrove Speedway’s Jim Nace Memorial National Open on Saturday, September 25.

Starting from the pole position, Dietrich battled for the race lead early, eventually snagging the top spot from Midwest hotshot and outside pole sitter, Brian Brown, on lap ten. Dietrich maintained control for the next 20 circuits, doing everything he could to block the progress of Dillsburg’s Anthony Macri. Unfortunately for Dietrich, the eighth-starting Macri proved to be too strong, as “Double-D” was forced to take a backseat to the eventual winner on lap 30. Dietrich kicked-off the Jim Nace Memorial with a heat race victory.

Just one night prior to his Selinsgrove podium, Dietrich participated in Williams Grove Speedway’s Outlaw Tune Up where he finished sixth after starting tenth.

“I don’t think we’ll ever be satisfied unless we win. We had a lot of speed this weekend, and my guys worked their butts off, but we were still short. We know what we have to do, so we’ll do everything we can to get ourselves into National Open shape this week,” Danny Dietrich said, driver of the Gary Kauffman Racing, Weikert’s Livestock, Sandoe’s Fruit Market, Pace Performance, Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts, Bowhunters Superstore, Drop Of Ink Tattoo, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, Self Made, No. 48 sprint car. “We need to improve our qualifying effort, especially against the World of Outlaws. We can’t get ourselves in a hole…it will be tough to recover.”

Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing will continue their 2021 campaign with Williams Grove Speedway’s National Open featuring the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Friday and Saturday, October 1-2. The two-day blockbuster will be headlined with a $75,000-to-win main event on Saturday; the weekend will ignite with a $10,000 preliminary. “Double-D” will enter the program with six victories on the season, accomplishing his most recent at BAPS Motor Speedway on Thursday, September 16.

Whittall caps important weekend with Selinsgrove National Open top-ten; Williams Grove National Open looms

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

VINCENTOWN, N.J. (September 27, 2021) – It was an important weekend to find speed, and that is exactly what Justin Whittall and JW Motorsports did.

Whittall, driver of the JG Kronenberger Fine Jewelry, Mid-Atlantic Transport, Brotherton Brewing Company, Beechwood Landscape Architecture and Construction LLC, Pioneer Auto Body, Worldwide Bearings, FK Rod Ends, Stilo Helmets, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Enterprise, Ground Blind Boys, No. 67 sprint car, entered Williams Grove Speedway’s Outlaw tune up, as well as Selinsgrove Speedway’s Jim Nace Memorial National Open over the weekend, concluding the pair with back-to-back top-ten finishes, all of which highlighted with an eighth-place score in the $20,000-to-win National Open at Selinsgrove.

The eighth-place outcome was the product of row six, concluding the 40-lapper four spots higher than where he started. Incidentally, finishing eighth has been a recurring theme for Whittall, as the Vincentown, New Jersey-native finished eighth in Selinsgrove’s Jack Gunn Memorial on August 28.

Whittall opened his recent two-race campaign with a tenth-place outcome at Williams Grove Speedway on September 24. The 2021 Williams Grove Speedway National Open finale will award a $75,000 top prize.

“What a weekend for this team. We definitely needed that, especially with the World of Outlaws coming to town this week,” Justin Whittall explained. “Having that extra kick of confidence before the National Open will do wonders for us. It all starts with qualifying. That sets the tone for the entire evening, so we need to take advantage and capitalize. I’m ready to get started. It should be an exciting weekend.”

The two-day Williams Grove National Open will begin on Friday, October 1, with a $10,000-to-win preliminary bout, followed by the $75,000-to-win grand finale on Saturday, October 2.

Henderson and Sandvig Cap Championship Season at Huset's Speedway With Win

Inside Line Promotions - BRANDON, S.D. (Sept. 27, 2021) - Justin Henderson finished a dominating season at Huset's Speedway in style last weekend as he picked up a victory and a third-place result during the Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association doubleheader.

The win was his fifth of the season at the dirt track and the podium finish on Sunday locked up the 2021 Casey's 410 Sprint Cars presented by Big Frig championship for the Mike Sandvig Racing No. 7 team.

"We only got one win and I really wanted two, but I guess that would be greedy," Henderson said. "It was a long weekend, but a rewarding weekend and I'm really proud of the accomplishment."

Henderson held a 28-point advantage in the championship standings entering the weekend and he kicked off Saturday evening by timing in second quickest in qualifying with a lap of 11.081 seconds. He then advanced one position in a heat race to finish third. Henderson garnered the pole position in the feature courtesy of a fortunate redraw.

Henderson was the dominant car as he led all 25 laps of the main evnet to score the $4,000 victory. In a race that featured five total cautions, the final one with two laps remaining proved to be the most beneficial as it provided Henderson with the clean air he needed to pull away as he was struggling in traffic with the race winding down.

"We came up on a bee's nest of lapped cars and they were just slicing and dicing everywhere and I had nowhere to go," he said. "I heard second coming behind me and I got that late yellow and it really saved us. Clean air means so much in these cars and it gave us the room to really just take off and win."

Sunday's finale started off with a bit of excitement as Henderson arrived to the track only minutes before taking his qualifying lap after flying in from Minnesota, where he attended his sister's wedding earlier in the day.

He proceeded to lay down a lap of 11.469 seconds in qualifying, which was good enough for 13th quickest out of 23 drivers. Henderson then advanced three positions in a heat race to place second.

"It was a really long day, but it was worth it to be able to do both the wedding and the race," he said. "I managed to get myself into a redraw position there in the heat race and that really just made me feel better about the whole night. I knew what was at stake and to be able to take care of business there and create an opportunity was great."

Henderson took the green flag from the outside of the front row and he withstood a tricky track to come home third. The top-five finish was his 12 th of the season in 18 starts at Huset's Speedway.

"Come feature-time I don't know that we were any worse than the leaders, but I just never felt like I could really get up there and challenge," he said. "We raced pretty hard and clean there for second and ended up with a podium finish and in one piece. That's all you can ask for and it really finishes our year at Huset's where we want to be and that's up front."

Following a disappointing finale a few weekends prior at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, that saw Henderson finish third in track standings, the title at Huset's Speedway helped ease that sting. More importantly, it allowed Henderson to fulfill a promise to Sandvig to bring him his first track championship as an owner after multiple years of trying.

"We should have won two championships this year, but to know we've reached the level we always dreamed of doing as a team is pretty inspiring," Henderson said. "Mike gives me everything I need to succeed and to be able to repay that favor with a championship means a ton. I feel like we're a top program and this really stamps how far we've come as a team and the future looks bright."

This marks the end of the season for Henderson behind the wheel of the Sandvig Racing machine baring any late changes. However, Henderson is headed to Pennsylvania for the next two weekends to compete with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series in the Indy Race Parts No. 71. He'll tackle the $75,000-to-win National Open at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., this Friday and Saturday as well as the Nittany Showdown at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., on Oct. 8-9.

"As fast as we've been together all season in Mike's car, I'm kind of sad to see our season over," he said. "But I've got a great opportunity to kind of parlay that success into an opportunity with Bernie and Indy Race Parts and I'm really looking forward to it. Bernie's cars always have speed and that tells me that if I do my part as a driver, we'll have a shot to win each night out."

Brian Brown Captures First Career Feature Win at Williams Grove Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - SELINSGROVE, Pa. (Sept. 27, 2021) - Brian Brown earned his first career feature victory at the famed Williams Grove Speedway last Friday.

It kicked off a successful weekend that also showcased a third-place run during the Jim Nace Memorial National Open on Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway. That marked his fifth top-five finish during 10 races in Pennsylvania this month.

Sept. 24 - Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. - Qualifying: 1; Heat race: 1 (1); Dash: 3 (3); Feature: 1 (3).

"I was able to get by Devon (Borden) for second and kept pace with Brent (Marks) the first half of the feature," Brown said. "We got into traffic and he had an issue so we took over the lead. We were cruising along there and I felt like we were getting through traffic decent. We had an issue with a lapped car and that allowed Devon to get by us. The lapped car we had trouble with gave Devon trouble and I was able to get back by and win. Devon is a real up and comer and he made us work for it. It doesn't matter if you win by 20 seconds or half a second. A win is a win and our first at Williams Grove means a lot. They give you a handmade checkered flag. Having that in our shop the rest of lives is pretty special.

"Growing up as a kid there's three or four tracks you consider tracks with the most history. Knoxville, we've won there. Eldora, we've been very close with multiple seconds. I feel we've been good at times at Williams Grove, but not close to winning. To be able to get a win there is special. You always hope you will win there, but you never know. We put a lot of effort into trying to make our car better as the night goes on. Traditionally we qualify well there and do well in the heat, but I leave that place a lot of the times mad and frustrated because I can't figure it out in the feature. One win doesn't mean you figured it out, but you're closer to getting the feeling you need.

"Danny, Nate, my dad and Ben, who helps us in Pennsylvania, did a great job and it was a good night overall. It gives us confidence heading into the National Open. We're in the right mindset going into the one of the premier events in our sport."

Sept. 25 - Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa. - Qualifying: 2; Heat race: 3 (4); Feature: 3 (2).

"It started off with a little bad luck as we had an issue hot lapping where we weren't able to hot lap," Brown said. "We had to go into qualifying blind and we were able to be second quick. We started fourth in the heat and ran third. We were pretty tight in the heat and I gave Danny some bad information and we over-changed our car and got it too free for the feature. I knew from when we pushed off on Lap 1 I was probably going to be in trouble. The changes we made, even with the break at halfway, you couldn't really undo them.

"We led the first nine laps and then I got to lapped cars. I got through some good and a couple of them didn't know where they were going to go and I guessed wrong. At 150 miles per hour that let (Danny) Dietrich by. We hung with him and we made changes at the halfway break, but we weren't any better. Sometimes you just get beat by two better drivers and I got beat by two better drivers on Saturday and we ran third."

UP NEXT - Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for the Champion Racing Oil National Open with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series

"It's been a really good Pennsylvania trip so far," Brown said. "We're looking forward to capping it off with one of our premier events."

Gravel Leads Big Game Motorsports to 10th World of Outlaws Win of Season

Inside Line Promotions - SARVER, Pa. (Sept. 27, 2021) - Big Game Motorsports and driver David Gravel reached the double-digits wins mark during World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series competition this season thanks to a victory last Saturday during the Commonwealth Clash at Lernerville Speedway.

In fact, the team swept the night - setting quick time in qualifying before winning a heat race, the dash and the main event - for the second time this season. The triumph was the 13th of the season overall and 10 th of the year with the World of Outlaws.

"It's really cool," Gravel said. "I think last year I won nine races and one year at CJB I won nine races. When you're one win away you're super motivated. Ten is a hard number to attain. To do it in the first year with this team feels really good. We've won races a lot of different ways this year. It's one of those things where you appreciate every win and it's motivating to get that next one."

Although Gravel was victorious every time he hit the track, it wasn't until two thirds of the way through the 35-lap main event that he took the lead.

"I didn't get the greatest jump on the start and Wayne (Johnson) protected," he said. "It took the air off my car. I was riding in second and felt I could pass Wayne. I was trying to bide my time. Brad (Sweet) had a really good car as well and he was going off what I was doing. He was able to make a move to get by me and then pass Wayne. I thought that'd lower my chances to win the race. I was able to get to second. I thought Brad had a good pace. He caught some lapped cars and I was catching him. When the caution came out I tried to nail the restart as best as I could. He protected and I had a big run in turns one and two."

As Sweet dropped to the bottom groove on the restart of Lap 23, Gravel railed the top side in turns one and two. His momentum propelled him down the backstretch and he dove to the bottom entering turn three. Gravel then slid up in front of Sweet to take the lead and he led the remainder of the race.

"He came down the track quite a bit and I probably surprised him I was there that much and got that low," Gravel said. "It all worked out and was what I had to do to win the race. I knew I had to get up on the wheel."

The team also competed on Friday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, during the BeFour the Crowns Showdown. Gravel was efficient at the track as he set quick time during qualifying before winning a heat race to advance into the dash. Unfortunately, he pulled the highest number - eight - to line up last in the dash.

"Drawing the eight is never good, but I'd rather draw an eight at Eldora than some other tracks we race at," he said. "I felt we had a pretty good car."

Gravel picked up a pair of positions to finish sixth, which lined him up on the outside of the third row for the A Main.

"We weren't great at the beginning of the feature," he said. "We rode around for a bit. I put my wing all the way back and had to figure out what worked for me. Once we got the wing back we were racing with three other cars and went from sixth or seventh to third in a lap or two. At the end of the race I felt we were the best car in turns three and four and maybe not as good in turns one and two, but if things went our way maybe we had a shot to win the race."

Gravel produced a third-place result, which was his 40th top five of the season.

Next up for the team is the Champion Racing Oil National Open this Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. Gravel is a two-time winner of the prestigious event.

"We haven't won at Williams Grove this year so I'm motivated to get that done," he said. "We've had some issues at the big paying races. I'm motivated to try to get this big money this weekend. After the weekend we just had we have good confidence going in and we've had good speed at Williams Grove. We'll focus on putting ourselves in a good position and then hopefully taking advantage."

HERR CLAIMS $3,000 DIRTY 30 SUPER SPORTSMAN WIN AT BAPS

YORK HAVEN, PA - Frankie Herr made the decision over the Summer that he wasn’t coming back to the Super Sportsman division next season.

The main reason is that Herr wants to travel around and pick-and-choose his schedule. The Carlisle, Pa., driver also has a desire to get back into the 358 Sprint Car ranks and have fun in his final years.

But before Herr moves on, he has one more goal at BAPS Motor Speedway. He wants to give his car-owner, Bill Devine, his first championship, and Herr took another step in that direction Saturday night.

Herr knew he had the best car and was patient. After losing the lead to Scott Dellinger, he retook the top spot and led the final 10 laps to claim the Dirt Deeds Fab and Repair Dirty 30 at BAPS Motor Speedway.

“This is my last year in the Super Sportsman division, and I don’t really want to retire here,” Herr said. “We talked over the Summer, and we are going to do some sprint cars and do some 358 and maybe some 360 racing.

“The points deal, I don’t like them, but I want to win this for Bill, because he hasn’t gotten one yet. We are going to try like a bugger to get Bill a championship here. Scott [Dellinger] is tough, and all we can do is plug at it every week and see what happens.”

Herr is peaking at the right time. After a disappointing Sportsman 100, the Dirty Deeds team has won the last two shows and holds a narrow 80-point lead over Dellinger in the standings with one point race remaining.

This particular march to Victory Lane wasn’t easy. Herr started third on the grid, but he benefited from Matt Ondek not being able to start the main event because of motor issues.

That allowed Herr to take the early lead over Chase Gutshall, but this was far from a runaway. Super Sportsman 100 champion Russ Mitten was running second and within striking distance of the leader until he stopped on the track on Lap 15.

Still, Herr had to struggle. Scott Dellinger, who started sixth, took the lead from Herr after the restart, and the chase was on for the win.

“You never give up a chance when you get to start up front, and the closer the better,” Herr said. “I saw Russell there, and I thought he was going to be tough, but apparently, something happened.

“Then, Scott pulled up beside me, and there are no gimmies here. I could tell I was a little better getting off the corners than the 30 [Dellinger], and that’s how we stayed with him and were able to pass him.”

Herr didn’t go away and decided to go to the outside of the speedway. He had the better car and pulled the trigger on a pass for the lead on the 20th circuit.

From there, the race belonged to Herr. He led the final 10 laps and took the win by 2.017 seconds over Dellinger. Tony Jackson, Gutshall, and Luke Deatrick completed the top five.

“I didn’t run second too long, and I knew the race was over halfway,” Herr said. “I just got a tick tight after the caution. I don’t know if the right rear cooled down and lost air pressure, or what.

“Scott wasn’t going to give me much room. I guess that’s what it takes when you are leading there, and that’s why I had to be a little patient and enough in front of him off the corner that we had no issues. I guess it worked out in my favor.”

Herr set quick time for the 23-car field with a lap of 16.650 and won a heat race. Mitten and Gutshall were also heat winners. Nate Young was the Mac Tools Hard Charger.

In the Creekside Auto Sales 358 Late Model feature, Travis Mease took the lead just past the halfway point and went on to score the victory in the 20-Lap main event.

Dan Zechman grabbed the top spot on the initial start and led the first 10 circuits before Mease, who started third, took the lead on Lap 11. Three cautions slowed the leader’s progress, but not enough to change the outcome.

Mease earned the victory by 1.176 seconds over Zechman. Chase Billet, Joey Hoffer, and Ben Whitaker completed the top five.

Jorjie Sweger took advantage of a late caution to score the win in the Gene Latta Ford Central PA Legends presented by Baker Door Company feature.

Seth Kearchner took the lead from Chris Transeau on Lap 9 and looked like he was going to take the win until the caution was displayed on the last lap for Stephen Wurtzer.

Sweger took advantage and slipped by Kearchner and earned the victory by a mere .022 seconds at the stripe. Kearchner, Blaine Leppo, Transeau, and Bill Diehl completed the top five.

Hunter Fulton led the final five laps to capture the 20-Lap Superior Homes Extreme Stock feature event.

Andrew Hogue led the first 12 laps before giving way to Austin Hogue. Chase Rehbein took the lead on Lap 14 before the caution was displayed for Michael Goodwin.

On the restart, Austin Hogue and Rehbein got together. Hogue flipped to bring out the red flag, which also handed the lead to Fulton.

Fulton led the rest of the way for the victory. Patrick McClane, Sammy Rial, Doug Hoffman, and Will Long completed the top five.

STEVE OWINGS WRAPS UP 2021 SEASON WITH A WIN AND ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP

HANOVER, PA - Steve Owings is used to winning early and often when it comes to 358 Sprint Car competition at Trail-Way Speedway.

Weather didn’t help through the early stages of 2021. That pushed Owings’ first win at Trail-Way to June 25. But since then, the Westminster, Md., driver has been on point and a fixture in Victory Lane.

It happened again Friday night. Owings charged to the front and earned his fifth win of the season at the Hanover, Pa., facility by winning the 25-Lap Night of Champions program for the 358 Sprint division.

“We had a slow start this year, but it’s finally come on here at the end,” Owings said. “Normally, that doesn’t happen for us, but we’ll go on.

“I just want to thank everyone who came out tonight. This is the first time I’ve won this race and the championship, so we don’t have to share with anyone this year.”

Owings lined up fifth on the grid but moved up to third when David Holbrook’s top wing came loose while lining up to start the feature. He wasted little time getting to the front. By the time the first lap was complete, he was already up to the second position.

Meanwhile, Jayden Wolf was setting the pace. He beat Nat Tuckey into the first corner and speeded down the backstretch with the lead.

Owings closed to within .157 seconds, but he couldn’t take the lead. Wolf did a masterful job off the corners sliding up in front of the track kingpin.

The process continued over the next seven laps despite a pair of cautions. Finally, Owings was able to blow around Turns 3 and 4 on a Lap 10 restart to take the lead.

“He was running the perfect line,” Owings said. “I was better coming off of four and off of two, but he slid in front of me each time. I couldn’t get any momentum.

“That restart, he got off of the throttle too quick, and we ate him up. He’s going to be a hell of a racer. He’s going to be something special before too long.”

Once out front, Owings opened up a big lead. His pace was slowed on the 15th circuit when Wolf and Kody Hartlaub got together battling for the runner-up spot at the flagstand.

That wasn’t the worst of it for the leader. Owings’ top wing started to go sideways on Lap 17, and it gave the field a chance.

Owings thought otherwise. The field never had a chance, as the leader continued to negotiate the Trail-Way surface and took the win by 1.290 seconds at the finish.

Cameron Smith beat David Holbrook to the finish for second. Nat Tuckey and Riley Emig completed the top five.

In Street Stock competition, Kody Sites started fifth and, like Owings, carved his way to the front to take the win in the 20-Lap affair.

Danny Beard started on the pole and grabbed the early lead. Meanwhile, Sites took his time getting to the front. He surged into third on Lap 4 and was stalking the leaders.

Sites made his move on Lap 8. He shot to the inside of Sammy Rial and Beard to take the lead by the time the lap was complete.

Three cautions didn’t stop Sites’ progress. He led the rest of the way and took the win over Rial by .573 seconds. The second-place finish allowed Rial to lock up the season championship.

Chad Weaver led every lap of the 15-Lap Limited Stock feature, but his march to Victory Lane was far from easy.

Robbie Carroll made things difficult and was all over the leader throughout the race distance. Cody Klinedinst came on late and slipped by Carroll, but he finished .284 seconds behind Weaver at the finish.

While Carroll lost the runner-up spot on the last lap, he did capture his fourth straight Trail-Way championship. Justin Oberlin and A.J. Hoffner completed the top five in the final rundown.

Bill Brown Jr. stormed from 10th to the front and earned the win in the Classic Car main event. Dylan Brown and Jimmy Combs completed the podium.

59th Annual Champion Racing Oil National Open This Week At Williams Grove World of Outlaws, Independents and Pennsylvania Posse to meet in prestigious two-day event Oct. 1 & 2 Saturday main pays $75,000 to win!

Mechanicsburg – Williams Grove Speedway will present the 59th annual Champion Racing Oil National Open for World of Outlaws sprint cars coming up this Friday and Saturday, October 1 and 2, at 7:30 pm each night.

The fantastic Champion Racing Oil National Open weekend will wrap up the 2021 season at Williams Grove Speedway with Saturday night’s 40-lap main event paying $75,000 to win.

Friday’s 25-lap National Open Preliminary will pay $10,000 to the winner.

The prestigious Williams Grove Speedway Champion Racing Oil National Open has long been revered as the biggest sprint car show in the East and as one of the big three across the nation, oft mentioned to measure up in stature with the Knoxville Nationals and Kings Royal.

Anyone who is anyone in sprint car racing in the United States will be at Williams Grove this week for the two-day affair. The races will offer pit-bursting car counts laden with talent and desire.

The race will bring out the cream of the sprint car crop as contenders from near and far compete for the prestige, the title and the cash that flows through the Open.

But only a few can be counted as pre-race favorites.

California’s Brad Sweet is the leader of the World of Outlaws point standings with 16 series wins to date this season but again he will enter the weekend as somewhat of an underdog having yet to master the wily Grove oval in his career. He struggles at Williams Grove. Always has. Still, as the leader of the pack, he is a contender.

Connecticut’s David Gravel, second in series points, is a two-time National Open champion with titles in 2014 and 2017. Pretty simply put, he knows how to get around Williams Grove in all kinds of weather! And it’s highly likely he’s prepared to snag a third title on Saturday, especially with the confidence and momentum behind him coming from his 10th win of the season on Saturday night at Lernerville Speedway. He is the defending preliminary night winner.

Third in points as the Open dawns is Carson Macedo, a Californian at the helm of the Jason Johnson racing No. 41. Macedo too knows how to get around the Grove and has won there. But the 40-lap distance will test the ability and Grove know-how of this relative newcomer to the Grove and outlaws scene.

And lurking fourth in points coming into the National Open is none other than the winningest driver in the 58-year history of the event, Donny Schatz of North Dakota. Schatz is the defending $75,000 champion and that win was his unprecedented sixth in the race after taking his first in 2000. This time of the season is when Schatz and his program shines and his star usually burns bright at Williams Grove. He will be there with Gravel to compete for a W on Saturday.

Coming from Williams Grove, Lance Dewease will enter the weekend with the good fortune to be able to focus solely on winning the event(s) and that means the world to his approach. He has already clinched the 2021 track title that he wanted. His famed mechanic Davey Brown owns eight career National Open victories and his car owner counts one as a driver/owner and another as an owner for Dewease in 2018. No one has been better at Williams Grove this year than the now seven-time track champion and he is by far the front-runner for a win by a member of the Pennsylvania Posse.

Third in Grove points currently, Anthony Macri from nearby Dillsburg has gotten hot of late at Williams Grove, scoring his first two career 410-sprint mains at the track since August after leading dozens of laps before that only to be denied late. And the kid does know how to run on and win on a slickening track as he’s proven elsewhere the last few seasons. And the Open track will be slickening for sure. Plus, he’s fresh off of another $20,000 win at Selinsgrove on Saturday give him 11 overall on the year and again, that breeds momentum and confidence.

Danny Dietrich has been hot and cold this season and is still trying to win one at the Grove this year as he sits fourth in oval points. He’s won everywhere else in 2021 with six overall scores and he’s won the Open before in 2016. He can adapt to a changing surface and recently seems to have rediscovered his mo-jo, so an Open win is within reality, if he can put a whole night together starting in time trials.

The wild cards for wins this year: Brent Marks and Kyle Larson. Marks will compete. But will Larson?

Marks has quite simply been a threat to win ever since leaving the outlaws trail very early this season. He came home, he regrouped, he hit the track running to wins - many wins in fact, now numbering 11, including a score in the World of Outlaws Summer Nationals at Williams Grove in July. Marks won the Open in 2019. And he could very easily romp to another this week. He has the speed, the desire and something to prove.

For his part, Larson would surely love to score the tri-fecta this year aboard Paul Silva’s No. 57. He got the Kings Royal in July and the Knoxville Nationals in August. But will the current NASCAR point leader be able to make it happen, if he can find the time? If he enters, there’s a better than 75% chance you can throw out every other race prediction with the bathwater.

And don’t forget about Oklahoma’s Daryn Pittman. He’s finished second in five National Opens since 2005. His Kevin Swindell SpeedLab entry is fully capable of finally getting the job done this year. Besides, sooner or later this sprint car nice guy who spent may seasons as a Grove regular has gotta’ break through! Call it the law of averages….

Adult general admission for October 1 is set at $35 with youth ages 13 – 20 priced at $15. Adult admission for October 2 is $40 with youth priced at $20.

Kids ages 12 and under are always admitted for FREE at Williams Grove Speedway.
