ALAN KRIMES WINS FEATURE, CLAIMS SECOND TRACK TITLE AT LINCOLN SPEEDWAY Chandler Leiby keeps points lead with first win of the year in “358” sprints; Dellinger dominates super sportsman

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA 9/3/2016 – Denver’s Alan Krimes added an exclamation point to his second track title in three years by claiming the 25-lap “410” sprint car feature win at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night.

And he did it in dramatic fashion, coming from 11th starting spot through a stacked field to take the lead from Brandon Rahmer with two laps to go.

Polesitter Matt Boland led the first 13 laps from the pole before fifth-starting Brandon Rahmer took the lead on a 14th-lap restart. Meanwhile, Krimes was methodically working through the field and was running fourth at the time. He moved past Boland into the runner-up spot on lap 17.

“We got going real good there on the bottom at one point in the race, and it seemed like we picked off a bunch of them,” said Krimes in victory lane, “Then we had that yellow and I restarted fourth, and I thought with those guys running the top I should go to the bottom and drive through there. But on the bottom for the restart I was junk. Then another yellow came out and I rolled the wing back a little bit. Then the car was pretty good around the bottom and I got into second.”

“I was gaining on Brandon a little bit and I was trying to watch the scoreboard because I knew the laps were winding down,” continued Krimes, “I thought I might get one shot at him. When we came up on the lapped car I think Brandon got up over the cushion or something and I was able to slip between him and the lapped car coming off turn four. It’s not a move you can pull off very often, but that was all it took.”

Once in front, Krimes took the checkered two laps later by 1.25 seconds over Rahmer, with 10th-starting Brian Montieth, Austin Hogue, and Gerard McIntyre, Jr. completing the top five. Sixth through tenth were Jim Siegel, Kyle Moody, 14th-starting Cory Haas, Freddie Rahmer, and Tim Wagaman.

Heats for the 25 410 Sprints were won by Glenndon Forsythe, Billy Dietrich, and Montieth.

Chandler Leiby, involved in a tight season points battle with Matt Campbell and Adrian Shaffer, picked up a much-needed first win of the season in the 20-lap “358” sprint car feature.

Leiby started fifth after polesitter Kyle Abrahims came to a stop during one of four attempts to start the race, and took the lead from Matt Findley (who ended up on the pole) on lap seven. He fought off repeated challenges from Kyle Denmyer, who actually led laps 13 ad 14 before Leiby moved back in front.

Denmyer settled for second, with Findley, 19th-starting Brent Shearer, and Shaffer crossing third through fifth.

Doug Hammaker plowed into the third-turn wall while running fourth on lap 13. He was taken to Hershey Medical Center by his family after complaining of a headache, dilated pupils, and general disorientation after the crash, which collected sixth-place Matt Campbell. Campbell came from the back over the final eight laps to cross eighth behind Dalton Dietrich and Phil Walter, remaining alive in the points battle with one points race to go.

Heats for the 31 358 Sprints were won by Findley, Hammaker, and Shaffer, with Shearer winning the consolation.

Scott Dellinger picked up his fourth career Lincoln win in the 25-lap super sportsman feature. He started on the outside of the front row and followed polesitter Russ Mitten for the first laps before making the race-winning pass. He dominated the rest of the way, crossing 1.53 seconds ahead of Mitten at the end. Third through fifth were Doug Dodson, Steve Wilbur, and Kenny Edkin.

Chad Criswell was uninjured in a spectacular end-over-end flip on the backstretch of lap five. That multi-car crash also ended the night for Rich Eichelberger and Jay Fannasy. Fannasy lost a wheel, which Criswell hopped over, leading to the flip.

Heats for the 21 Super Sportsman were won by Fannasy, Dellinger, and Davey Walsh.

Next Saturday night, September 10th, at 7 PM, Lincoln Speedway will host ARCH NIGHT featuring the the 358 Sprints, which will race in their final Keizer Aluminum Wheels points race in the season-long battle for the 2016 track title. Rounding out the evening’s 3-division show will be the 358 Late Models & PASS/IMCA (305) Sprints. Gates will open at 5 PM, with heats set to get underway at 7 PM.
