Hanover, PA (8/31/18) - “This car’s a rocket every week!” exclaimed Steve Owings in victory lane, after claiming his fourth win of 2018 in the 25-lap Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic 358 Sprint Car feature race. “The track was awesome! You could race pretty much anywhere you wanted to go.”

Owings did just that.

By the fifth lap, ninth starting Owings raced his way into the top three and began applying pressure to JB Cunningham for the second spot only three laps later. Owings slid underneath Cunningham in turn four on the ninth lap, securing the runner up spot and immediately set his sights on racelong leader, Cody Fletcher.

Fletcher, who started on the outside pole, did everything he could to keep Owings at bay. Owings attempted the race winning pass by ducking to the inside of Fletcher on the 10th lap but got out of shape and somehow regained control of his car before losing any positions. Luckily for Owings, a caution came out only a few seconds later for debris on the racetrack.

“I got a little excited,” Owings admitted, “I wanted to get to the bottom and I jerked on it a little too hard and I almost about spun ‘er out. That was pretty stupid.” Owings continued, “That’s what I did the other week. There was a car that spun out and I was racing for second and I should’ve just laid back and waited until a better time. But when it’s that fast it’s hard to sit back and ride. When you wanna go, you wanna go.”

With the field brought back together for the lap 10 restart, Owings wasted no time pressuring Fletcher for the lead. On the 12th lap, the two raced side-by-side down the backstretch, with Owings once again trying to sneak under Fletcher through turns three and four, this time completing the pass and taking the lead coming to the 13th lap.

The second and final caution flag flew on the 15th lap for an overturned Mark Van Vorst. Van Vorst exited his car within seconds and after towing his car off of the racetrack, the field was back to green for the final 10 laps.

Owings’ B&D Truck Hoist/Stonesifer Sanitation #35 Sprint Car checked out on the final restart and was able to cross the line 3.067 seconds ahead of runner up, Fletcher. Cunningham crossed third with Dylan Norris in fourth and David Holbrook in fifth.

Heat races for the 358 Sprint Cars were won by Norris and Owings.

Polesitter, Brent Bull, raced to his first career 270 Micro Sprint feature win at Trail-Way Speedway, Friday night. Bull led from the drop of the initial green flag until the final checkered flag.

A minor melee shook up the top five on a lap 16 restart, which saw fifth running Brian Marriott jump all the way to second.and shuffled third running Cory Myers back several positions.

Following Bull across the line was Marriott, Steven Cox, Tim McClelland and Brock Whisler, completing the top five. 17th starting, Keera Dupler, finished 11th and claimed the Donahue Motorsports Hard Charger award.

Heat winners for the 18 270 Micro Sprints were Myers and Cox.

Matt Chronister held off a hard charging Robbie Carroll to claim his second win of 2018 at Trail-Way Speedway.

“I saw Robbie underneath me, coming into one and two on the last lap,” Chronister said in victory lane, ”I stuck it on the bottom and got in his way”

Chronister, who suffered overheating issues last week, continued to have problems in tonight’s 15-lap feature.

“I thought I had the overheating issue taken care of last week. I think it was lap 11, the car just didn’t feel right and it seemed like it was losing power. I looked down and it was starting to overheat, so I was lucky to hang on.”

Chronister crossed the line .609 seconds ahead of the Limited Stock point leader, Robbie Carroll. Terry Hartlaub, Kyle Rohrbaugh and Travis Brown rounded out the top five.

Heat winners for the Limited Stocks were Chronister and Carroll.

Brian Walls raced to his third Street Stock victory of 2018 at Trail-Way Speedway. Walls started the 20-lap feature in sixth and wasted no time, taking the lead away from Jeremy Stremmel on the third lap.

Walls checked out on the rest of the field and crossed the line 1.744 seconds ahead of runner up, Danny Beard. Marshall McMullen completed his night in third followed by Sam Gallagher and Aaron Beard, completing the top five.

Trail-Way Speedway is back in action next Friday night with the 358 Sprint Cars, Central PA Legends, Limited Stocks and the final point race of 2018 for the 600 Micro Sprints. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with racing scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m.
