Sams III Preparing for Future as Pandemic has Left Plans Sidelined for Months

Inside Line Promotions - NORTH PORT, Fla. (May 25, 2020) - This year was supposed to be an epic one for Danny Sams III, who is tackling the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour schedule for the first time.

The Sams LaMountain Racing driver was slated to race from coast to coast with a schedule of 50-plus races against the top 360ci winged sprint car drivers in the country. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 shutdowns across the United States the last couple of months have left Sams III stuck at home.

The team has focused on making the most of the situation by building a new sprint car and wrapping the race cars with a new design.

"We've been working hard on the cars and getting ourselves more prepared," said Sams III, who last raced on March 8. "We've fixed some things on the trailer and have tested our spare parts, wings, arms, suspension components, etc., to make sure everything works and fits. This break has allowed us to step back and see what we need to be able to run with the ASCS National Tour. Now we are more prepared."

Sams III noted that he participated in a couple of iRacing events put on by ASCS and has done as much as he can to prepare to race without actually being at the track. He even took a sprint car to a senior parade last week. Sams III recently graduated from high school, but with a graduation ceremony postponed until this summer Sams III decided to make the most of the parade honoring the seniors. Most of his classmates were in cars and trucks while Sams III rode in his sprint car with his father pushing from behind.

"It's been pretty weird," he said. "There was no closure. All of a sudden we were out of school and now we're done with high school."

On a bright note, the race team has landed a new sponsor in Southern Racing Fuels. Southern Racing Fuels is the largest race fuel distributor in the state of Florida. It supplies tracks, dealers, speed shops, c-stores, racers and motorcycle shops throughout Florida, the Caribbean and South America. The products include the complete line of quality Sunoco Race Fuels in addition to performance oils and lubricants. For more information, visit .

"We're thrilled to have Southern Racing Fuels join our team," Sams III said. "They have a great reputation in the sport and will be a valued partner for us."

The next scheduled Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event is June 19-20 at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., for the Fred Brownfield Classic.
