Williamson Continues to Gain Experience During Competitive 360 Sprint Car Action

Inside Line Promotions - LUBBOCK, Texas (May 15, 2020) - Garet Williamson rolled into West Texas Raceway last Tuesday looking to gain experience.

The Missouri native got that and then some. Not only did he take his first qualifying laps of the season, Williamson bagged valuable track time against some of the best sprint car drivers in the sport.

The results don't match the progress Williamson and his team made as they just missed transferring to the A Main during the opening night of the West Texas Crude Nationals.

"With those guys it takes laps and experience," Williamson said. "Those guys were the best in the country and do this for a living. Most of them were Outlaw guys or have been doing this for 15 or 20 years, so experience is everything with those guys. Racing with them will make me better and will only help me."

Williamson started the night a little out of his element by participating in time trials for the first time in his sprint car career. Williamson timed in ninth quickest in his group.

The time buried Williamson in his heat race, but he showed progress by moving up two spots to seventh. Williamson capped the night by placing sixth in the B Main - only two positions shy of making the main event.

"That's the first time I've ever qualified and ran that format," he said. "Qualifying is something that is new to me and I had to get used to it. I think if I would've been better qualifying, I believe we would have put it in the show.

"We were fast all night and had the speed. We just started back too far all night to do too much with it. The track wasn't super racy, but we did what we could with it."

The event finale rained out on Wednesday.

Williamson will return to action on May 24 at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., with the ASCS Warrior Region and ASCS Sooner Region.
