Eleven full-time All Stars stand ready for Attica’s Spring Nationals

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (March 30, 2021) - For the first time in 2021, the FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will duel in the dirt for a stake in the season-ending championship standings, opening the points season, officially, with a two-day stop at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday, April 2-3. Dubbed the Core & Main Spring Nationals, the Attica doubleheader will feature two, full programs for Tony Stewart’s traveling All Stars awarding a total winner’s share equaling $11,000; $5,000 on Friday and $6,000 on Saturday.

Facing-off against a stout contingent of Ohio regulars, as well as an expected turnout of regionally-based invaders, eleven full-time All Stars will make the call on Friday and Saturday including a number of familiar and former full-timers such as Cory Eliason, Zeb Wise, Justin Peck, and T.J. Michael.

In addition to a handful of former championship challengers, the All Star Circuit of Champions will be represented by a talented lineup of first-time Series contenders including Kyle Reinhardt, Ian Madsen, Brent Marks, Lucas Wolfe, Bill Balog, Tyler Courtney, and Hunter Schuerenberg. Combined, the 2021 All Star lineup boasts depth, experience and talent, creating one of the most competitive rosters in Series history.

Lucas Wolfe - Coldren Motorsports - No. 07

Now in command of the Coldren Motorsports No. 07, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania’s Lucas Wolfe has the experience and the credentials to be an All Star frontrunner in 2021, and although the second generation racer has yet to score a win with the Series, the 2008 World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year has the means to overcome that statistic, and more. In addition to being a full-time Outlaw competitor for five seasons, and finishing among the top-ten in the final points on four occasions, Wolfe is also a decorated local competitor, winning Central Pennsylvania’s Sprint Car Points Series championship in 2018 aboard Mike Barshinger’s No. 24.

“I’m certainly hoping to be able to rely on past experiences to maximize our first year as a team with the All Stars. We have many hurdles to overcome, especially early in the season, but at this point we just need to get started and evaluate where we are. We can address any issues at that point and figure out our weaknesses.”

Brent Marks - CJB Motorsports - No. 5

Although he is certainly no stranger to All Star Circuit of Champions competition, achieving three Series victories during his career including a Tuscarora 50 weekend sweep [the Night Before The 50 and Tuscarora 50] and a win during the opening night of the 2020 Governors Reign at Eldora, the “Myerstown Missile'' Brent Marks has never been a full-time All Star competitor. That statistic will change in 2021, as the driver of the Carlisle, Pennsylvania-based CJB Motorsports No. 5 will now contend for a Series title, working hard to transfer three years of World of Outlaws experience to the All Star Circuit of Champions campaign trail.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to compete for an All Star championship this season. CJB Motorsports has everything in place for a team to win and they’re prepared like a championship-winning team. Fortunately for myself, I have a lot of experience in my corner with Barry Jackson, who has contended for an All Star title in the past, as well as Derek Miller, who has a lot of time with the Series as a crew chief. That makes me very confident as a driver and I think things will fall into place. This is going to be a new challenge and new challenges are always fun.”

Tyler Courtney - Clauson Marshall Racing - No. 7BC

As a former top performer in USAC, “Sunshine” Tyler Courtney will join the All Star Circuit of Champions ranks with a diverse and competitive open wheel background. The Indianapolis-native is a former USAC National Midget champion (2019), as well as a former USAC National Sprint Car champion (2018), achieving the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Non-Wing Driver of the Year accolade at the conclusion of his championship season. Although championship points were not on the line, Courtney and Clauson Marshall Racing attained a podium finish during All Star action at Screven Motor Speedway on January 29.

“I don’t feel any outside pressure racing out on the road, whether it be from supporters or my team. If there is any pressure, it’s probably more from myself because I know I can do this, but I also want to prove to everyone else that I can do it, too. I am very confident in my team’s ability to contend for a championship in 2021. We’ve been a championship caliber team up until this point so I don’t see that changing anytime soon. It’s obviously going to be a tough year and we will have lots of firsts, but we are up for the challenge.”

TJ Michael - Michael Motorsports - No. 8M

The ‘Texas Traveler” T.J. Michael will return to the All Star Circuit of Champions ranks full-time in 2021, rejoining “America’s Series” for a third season, but his first since 2017. The Plano, Texas-native, who resides in Fremont, Ohio, during the summer months, will enter his All Star campaign as a two-time FAST Series main event winner, most recently scoring a $5,500 payday at Waynesfield Raceway Park on March 27. Each of Michael’s FAST Series triumphs occurred on Waynesfield’s highbanks.

“Being a former full-time member does make preparing for a schedule like this easier, but it doesn’t make the racing any easier. But, I’m confident that my team will have the knowledge and the confidence to do well each night out. I’m excited for another season on the road.”

Zeb Wise - Wise Priddy Racing - No. 10

The “new kid on the block” no more, Angola, Indiana’s Zeb Wise will return to the All Star Circuit of Champions as one year older and one year wiser, set to compete for a Series championship with a team he partially owns: Wise Priddy Racing. Wise, who finished third in the All Star driver championship in 2020 on the strength of three top-five performances, good enough to also secure Rookie of the Year honors, commenced his competitive nature at a young age, first mastering 1/4-midgets, micros and USAC Midgets before climbing into a 410c.i. winged sprint car. Wise’s most notable feat is perhaps earning the title of being the youngest driver to ever win a USAC National Midget Series victory; 15 years, 8 months and 21 days old.

“I will definitely lean on my prior experiences this season. I learned a ton just being on the All Star tour for a year. Prior to last season, I think I raced a sprint car maybe eight or so times, so just being on the road and focusing on just sprint car racing was a big learning curve in itself. Then, throw in all of the new tracks I visited on top of that. It was a whole new deal for me last year, for sure. So, a lot of what I learned will definitely transfer over to this new team. And yes, there will be new challenges with being a part owner, but I’m really looking forward to getting the new year up and running.”

Ian Madsen - Sam McGhee Motorsports - No. 11

Certainly no stranger to competing full-time with a traveling sprint car Series, St. Marys, New South Wales, Australia’s Ian Madsen, who has since made a home in Des Moines, Iowa, will now hit the road full-time with America’s Series, resuming the role as wheelman for the Indianapolis-based Sam McGhee Motorsports. The former Outlaw turned All Star owns three All Star Circuit of Champions victories over the course of his career, his most recent accomplished during Four Crown Nationals competition at Eldora Speedway in 2016. Early season action in 2021 found Madsen on the podium once, doing so during the All Star invasion of East Bay Raceway Park on February 2.

“Being a former full-time Outlaw does prepare me for the travel and having to live out of a suitcase, but I will actually be away from home for longer periods this year because of the time we spend further east. A lot of these tracks I’ve been to, but a lot I haven’t been to. I’m really looking forward to the challenge of adapting to new tracks as quickly as I can.”

Justin Peck - Buch Motorsports - No. 13

Monrovia, Indiana’s Justin Peck has been making a lot of noise in the sprint car world so far in 2021, and that’s not just due to his announcement to compete full-time with the All Star Circuit of Champions. Peck, who has one All Star victory to his credit - a Macon win in 2017 - has been on a tear in Pennsylvania Posse Country, scoring a recent victory at Port Royal Speedway, and then another at Williams Grove Speedway on consecutive weekends. Paired with the ”Misfits” at Buch Motorsports, Peck will attempt to transfer his early season momentum into a potential All Star championship.

“Building a connection with this team has been really easy. Sean, Kurt and Tom are all great to work with and it didn’t take long to find a comfort zone. Every time I give feedback on how the car is handling, they listen and are able to make the necessary changes pretty quickly. I think being able to get along with the team so well will play a huge role once we get the points season rolling.”

Bill Balog - B Squared Motorsports - No. 17B

Unarguably the most decorated competitor in IRA Outlaw Sprint Car Series history, the “North Pole Nightmare” Bill Balog will now tackle the All Star Circuit of Champions trail in 2021, working to add not only Rookie of the Year bragging rights to his illustrious open wheel resume, but also an All Star title, which would accompany his ten IRA Series championships. In addition to ten titles, Balog is a 127-time IRA main event winner, which is the most all-time. In comparison, Joe Roe is second on the all-time list with 61.

“I think there is always pressure to do well. The schedule this season will be the most challenging schedule I’ve ever attempted, along with the competition. That makes the stress level a little high, but it feels good to finally get out on the road and race a full season with the All Stars.”

Cory Eliason - Rudeen Racing - No. 26

An All Star veteran in some respect, Visalia, California’s Cory Eliason enters his third year as a full-time All Star hungry for a championship. The pilot of the familiar Rudeen Racing No. 26 has yet to finish off of the championship podium, third in 2019 and second in 2020, and owns five-career victories with the organization, most recently finding victory lane during the Tuscarora 50 opener at Port Royal Speedway on Thursday, September 10. Three of Eliason’s five victories were accumulated in 2020, ending his championship run with 29 top-ten finishes in 44 point-earning feature events.

“With our prior experience, I think it’s safe to assume that we could be a favorite to win the title in 2021, considering we finished third in the standings during our first try and second last year. But assuming can be a guaranteed loss. There are a lot of great teams racing full-time this season and they’ve all had strong runs already this year. I think this may be the toughest year yet. Our biggest deal is maintaining consistency in all of our finishes.”

Hunter Schuerenberg - Vermeer Motorsports - No. 55

“Hunter Percent” Hunter Schuerenberg will do his best to be the top rookie in 2021, as well as the best overall, as the ever-familiar Vermeer Motorsports No. 55 will be present at each and every event on the upcoming All Star calendar. A graduate of the non-wing ranks, Schuerenberg found his footing in winged racing immediately, most recently finding victory lane during Attica Raceway Park’s season opener on March 20. In addition, the Sikeston, Missouri-native owns victories against the USAC National Sprint Car Series, Midwest Sprint Car Association (MSCS), Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA), FAST Series, and the IRA Outlaw Sprint Series.

“I think it helps having a points racing type of mentality heading into a season like this. We know what it takes to be consistent. It’s one thing to win a lot of races, but it’s another to know you can’t give away any good finishes. We wouldn’t be racing with the Series if we didn’t think we could contend for a title.”

Kyle Reinhardt - RQM Enterprises - No. 91

At the helm of the RQM Enterprises No. 91, Neptune City, New Jersey’s Kyle Reinhardt will enter the All Star season as a proven winner in Pennsylvania Posse Country, and although early season action in Georgia did not accumulate championship points, the former Port Royal Speedway Labor Day Classic and Selinsgrove Speedway winner is already off to an impressive start. The 2021 Rookie of the Year contender found the podium once during his trip to the Peach State, only to finish second behind three-time Series champion, Aaron Reutzel, during the second of two nights at Screven Motor Speedway.

“Traveling with the All Stars in 2021 is going to bring about a lot of changes for me. I don’t necessarily feel any added pressure though because racing in Pennsylvania every week can be just as intense, but there is definitely a different mentality in place when you’re racing out on the road every week. My team’s goal is to go into each night with the intent to get the most out of it.”

Big Game Motorsports and Gravel Post Seventh-Place Showing at Jason Johnson Classic

Inside Line Promotions - ELDON, Mo. (March 30, 2021) - David Gravel guided Big Game Motorsports to its 10th top-10 result of the season last Saturday during the Jason Johnson Classic.

A rough track made for a challenging night from the start as Gravel qualified 12th quickest.

"I missed it a little in qualifying and messed up in turn three," he said. "That put us behind a little in the heat race. We gained a spot in the heat to start the feature ninth, which wasn't too bad because it was a rough track."

Advancing from fourth to third place in a heat race locked Gravel into a starting position on the inside of the fifth row for the A Main, which was shortened from 41 laps to 30 laps because of track conditions.

"We weren't bad and weren't good," he said. "It wasn't the typical Lake Ozark we're used to, but that's one of the things about dirt racing. The first three or four laps there were two or three guys a corner biking up on two wheels. It's one of those things you balance out the risk versus reward. There were a couple of close calls. We were happy to roll out with a top 10 and move onto the next one."

Gravel's seventh-place result has him tied for the second-most top 10s this season during World of Outlaws competition with eight in nine races.

The World of Outlaws weekend opener at U.S. 36 Raceway near Osborn, Mo., rained out on Friday.

The team remains in Missouri this weekend when Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely hosts a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday. Gravel was victorious at the track in 2016.

"Pevely is going to be exciting," he said. "The one time we went there last year during the COVID-19 stuff it was track record speed. It'll be interesting to see what type of track we'll get. We're there twice this weekend and two more times later in the season. You have to be good at Pevely to want to contend in the points. I feel like I've been pretty solid there."

Cisney Produces First Feature Win of Year During Season Debut in Cowman Sprint Car

Inside Line Promotions - PORT ROYAL, Pa. (March 30, 2021) - Dylan Cisney was on a mission last Saturday during his season debut behind the Scott Cowman owned No. 2 sprint car.

Cisney, who had made a handful of starts in his family owned sprint car this year, was efficient every time he hit the track at Port Royal Speedway. The night ended in Victory Lane, marking Cisney's first triumph of the season and his first with Cowman.

"It was pretty neat and was kind of a relief," Cisney said. "I was a little nervous bringing out something different. We had some good runs to start the year. When you're running well it's hard to stop and bring out something different. I was going to be happy with just shaking it down and getting a top 10. It's a huge bonus to pull it out and get a win with it.

"That's what it's all about at the end of the day. Everybody wants to see their car in Victory Lane. For the first time out, to get him in Victory Lane is a sigh of relief. It takes the pressure off of you. I think it proves that he's got good equipment and we have a winning team."

Cisney qualified third quickest in his group session of time trials, which lined him up on the outside of the front row in a heat race.

"You timed just against people in your heat race and they inverted four," he said. "We were third quick and that put us on the outside of the front row. They did the feature lineup heads up and I was in the first heat. The winner was on the pole of the feature. With three heats every position you gained or lost was three spots for the feature. We led every lap and pulled away in the heat race.

"The car felt pretty good. I assumed I had a decent lead, but we don't really talk about that when I get back to the trailer. We talk about the car and what I was doing on the track. The track was a lot different than the last two weeks. It was really heavy to start time trials. It was wide open and still really fast in the heat races. Track position was key because it was a little tough to pass in the heats. Then it got nice and slick for the feature."

The heat race win gave Cisney the pole position for the A Main.

"Starting on the front row I knew I needed to get the jump and try to get in clean air off the bat," he said. "We were struggling with some steering issues with the car all night. I was wanting to get going and have clean track to myself. I didn't think we had the best car the first couple of laps. I felt pretty loose and couldn't push the car very hard. I was waiting for somebody to challenge me. As soon as I'd catch traffic each time a caution would come out so those fell my way.

"When you're the leader it helps you to catch a restart and keep yourself in clean air. It's a little difficult because you don't know what the guys are doing behind you and if the track is changing. I'd try to judge the track based on what the cars are doing in front of me as I'd come up to lap them. It gives me an idea where the track is. Everything just worked out."

Cisney led the distance to post his fifth career victory at his home track.

He plans on racing his family owned No. 5 sprint car this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Saturday at Port Royal Speedway.

Wilson Joining All Stars at Attica Raceway Park This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - BENTON RIDGE, Ohio (March 30, 2021) - Greg Wilson has a slightly different plan this year when it comes to the FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions schedule.

Wilson and his Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics and DNC Hydraulics backed team will be running a majority of the points-paying races, but have alternate plans for a handful of weekends. This marks the first time in more than a decade that Wilson recalls not racing for points with any series.

"I'm fortunate that all of our partners are working with us to make that possible," he said. "When the people who believe in you and help your team believe in the game plan you lay out and then with the year starting off like it has with us being more competitive, it's a huge confidence booster. It takes the pressure off when you see things play out the way they are playing out. We put a schedule together that will benefit our race team all the way around and get it back to where we can be up front more nights than we're not."

The points season begins this weekend as Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, hosts the Core and Main Spring Nationals on Friday and Saturday. Wilson plans on being at both shows and he has high expectations thanks to his success at the track throughout the years as well as his current three-race podium streak.

"I'm excited to get back after it as our schedule picks up pretty good here," he said. "And I'm excited to get back in the 410 car. We want to see if some of the stuff we've been doing (in the 360 division) carries over. Attica is one of those tracks where you have to be good, but it's one of those places that it changes throughout the night a lot. You really have to be on it as a driver to be able to do what you need to do to get by cars. The lane changes a lot of times from one end to the other. You have to be able to search and figure out what works best."

Wilson earned a pair of seventh-place results at Attica Raceway Park last year. He currently ranks fifth in all-time wins at the oval with 19 visits to Victory Lane.

"We have one goal, one agenda," he said. "That's to go win two races this weekend. Any place you've had a lot of success at, you pull through the gate with a little more confidence. Our whole goal is to get our team back competitive and have fun and go to the track to win every single night. It'll be nice going to a place where we've had a few wins."

SEASON STATS -

10 races, 1 win, 4 top fives, 6 top 10s, 6 top 15s, 7 top 20s

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: I-55 Doubleheader Up Next for World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Outlaws Chasing Personal Records, Track Records & More at Pevely, MO 1/3-Mile

PEVELY, MO - March 30, 2021 - The Greatest Show on Dirt is bound for I-55 this weekend.

Hosting a doubleheader this Friday and Saturday, April 2-3, the Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 will host the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars for the 60th time - becoming the tenth-most visited track in Series history.

TWO-DAY PACKAGE (4/2-3)
FRIDAY TICKETS / SATURDAY TICKETS

Let's get you ready for an always-exciting affair with the Outlaws rolling into Pevely, MO this weekend. Here are some of the storylines to follow:

RECORD STREAKS: For three of the top drivers, they're approaching or already have established record personal runs to start the 2021 World of Outlaws campaign; and they're all previous winners at I-55.

Brad Sweet of Grass Valley, CA currently leads the championship standings aboard his Kasey Kahne Racing, NAPA Auto Parts #49. That's thanks to a stretch of back-to-back wins and six-straight podium finishes, which is second-only to his personal record seven-consecutive podiums in 2020. He's won at I-55 in 2019 & 2020.
Sheldon Haudenschild of Wooster, OH has officially completed the greatest five-race stretch of his young career. A pair of victories at Magnolia (MS) and Cotton Bowl (TX) lead the way over a span that has featured a 2.8 average finish for the Stenhouse Jr. Marshall Racing, NOS Energy Drink #17. He also won at I-55 in 2019 & 2020.
Logan Schuchart of Hanover, PA has matched 2020 as his best start to a season. Through nine races, he and his Shark Racing, Drydene Performance Products #1S are still the only combination with a top ten finish in every World of Outlaws race. He won at I-55 in 2018.
THE WAITING GAME: It's been 16 races since Donny Schatz won his 299th career World of Outlaws feature at Williams Grove (PA) Speedway on October 3, 2020. This is Schatz's fifth-longest winless drought over the 15-year span that dates back to the first of his ten Series championships in 2006.

This 2021 season will mark only the fifth occurrence since the turn of the millennium that Schatz enters the month of April without a World of Outlaws win. For 16 of those seasons, he was a winner within the first seven races. Over this stretch, his longest starts to a season without winning are 16 races in 2011, 23 races in 2001, 27 races in 2004, and 49 races in 2002.

The good news? The Outlaws head to I-55 this weekend where Schatz has always been stout. In 49 appearances, the Fargo, ND native has victories in 2006 and 2015 as well as 28 top-five finishes and 41 top-ten runs.

'IT'S A NINE': A year ago at this time, Logan Schuchart held the I-55 track record with a lap of 10.115 seconds that he set on August 2, 2019. Then, Kyle Larson happened.

It was May 22, 2020, only the second race amid the #RETURNtoRACING due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Larson, making his first-ever appearance at the Pevely, MO 1/3-mile, was the sixth car to qualify in his Paul Silva owned #57. Lap one was a 10.145 already good enough for QuickTime, but that wasn't enough. Lap two was a perfect run of 9.995-seconds, marking the first nine-second lap in I-55 track history. Will see another nine-second lap this weekend?

RICO RETURNS: The ever-popular Rico Abreu of St. Helena, CA will make his season debut with the World of Outlaws this weekend at I-55. After an early-season west coast swing in the Works Limited #57 with Paul Silva on the wrenches, the 29-year-old will return to his personally-owned #24 Abreu Vineyards machine this weekend as he ventures to the Midwest.

An eight-time winner in World of Outlaws action, I-55 is not only one of his Abreu's best tracks, it's one of his favorites too. He has four total wins at Pevely, including two Ironman 55 titles in 2016 and 2018 to go along with a weekend sweep with the POWRi National Midgets in 2019.

This weekend will mark Rico's first event competing against Jason Sides' #7S, who he became part-owner of this off-season.

BUILDING MOMENTUM: A quintet of racers racked up top ten runs at Lake Ozark Speedway on Saturday night and continued building momentum ahead of an I-55 doubleheader.

Kraig Kinser of Bloomington, IN scored his third top ten through the first nine races, the most since for his Kinser Racing, Mesilla Valley Transportation #11K since 2014. He enters I-55 as a former winner in 2005.
James McFadden of Alice Springs, NT, AUS made it three top tens in three races since he joined the World of Outlaws tour from overseas. On Saturday, he landed his first podium of 2021 aboard the Kasey Kahne Racing, Karavan Trailers #9. He enters I-55 still searching for his first win at the track.
Carson Macedo of Lemoore, CA was aiming for a meaningful win in the Jason Johnson Classic aboard the Jason Johnson Racing #41, but a fifth-place finish would have to suffice. After back-to-back 11th & 13th-place finishes, a top five was a welcome sight. He enters I-55 with three top-tens in seven starts.
Aaron Reutzel of Clute, TX continued his steady top-ten stretch at Lake Ozark. Outside of a win at East Bay (FL) Raceway Park, the Roth Motorsports #83 only has one other top-five finish. However, they do have eight top-ten finishes through the first nine races and lead the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year chase. He enters I-55 with just four starts under his belt.
David Gravel of Watertown, CT advanced to third in the championship standings following a seventh-place run at Lake Ozark. His Big Game Motorsports #2 has collected one win to go along with eight top-ten finishes and five top-five results this year. He enters I-55 as a winner back in 2016.
Fans who can’t make it to the track can catch all of the action on DIRTVision with the annual Platinum FAST PASS subscription for $299/year or the monthly FAST PASS subscription for $39/month.

Rico Abreu and Works Limited persevere for a podium in Tulare

Dates: Friday and Saturday, March 26th-27th
Event: Kings of Thunder | Dalton’s Down Under Tour
Series: Kings of Thunder 360 Sprint Cars
Track: Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway (Tulare, California)
Rico Abreu A-Main Finishes (Start):
Friday: DNF
Saturday: 2nd (9th)

ST. HELENA, California (March 29, 2021) – Despite a hiccup during Friday’s main event that forced an early retirement, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu and the Works Limited 57 team persevered in a big way on Saturday night and cashed in their “DNF” for a podium performance, eventually capping their two-day, Kings of Thunder 360 sprints visit at Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway with an impressive rally from ninth to finish second; Abreu’s sixth top-five result in ten starts aboard the ever-familiar Works Limited 57.

Certainly no stranger to success on the highbanks of Thunderbowl Raceway, Rico Abreu is the most recent winner of the coveted Trophy Cup, actually sweeping all three nights of the annual program in 2019 to score a grand total of $26,000. The event was not held in 2020 due to the ongoing Covid-19 regulations in California.

“Thunderbowl Raceway is my all-time favorite place to race. I cut my teeth on that cushion and we’ve had a lot of success there. I wanted to get a win bad for the Works Limited 57 team, but we were forced to settle for one spot out. Those guys deserve to get a win very soon,” Rico Abreu said, driver of the Works Limited/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/No. 57 sprint car. “I am very grateful for the opportunity to drive the 57. That car is strong enough to win on any given night. Unfortunately, it just hasn’t happened yet, but it will.”

Set to make his annual journey to the central and eastern time zones, Rico Abreu will continue his 2021 campaign with a long haul to the Show-Me State, set to invade the Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri, for a two-day World of Outlaws visit on Friday and Saturday, April 2-3. The two-day showcase will feature back-to-back programs awarding $10,000 each.

Like Tulare, Rico Abreu and success at I-55 go hand-in-hand. The Californian is a two-time Ironman 55 champion at Federated Auto Parts Raceway, winning the $20,000 paydays in consecutive fashion in 2016 and 2017.

“We’re excited to see our Midwest fans,” Rico Abreu added. “And we love I-55. Hopefully we can put on a show. It’s a badass place to race.”

Schatz 11th in Jason Johnson Classic; I-55 doubleheader on deck

Date: Saturday, March 27th
Event: Jason Johnson Classic
Series: World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series
Track: Lake Ozark Speedway (Eldon, Missouri)
Donny Schatz A-Main Finish (Start): 11th (12th)

2021 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: Tied-4th | 1238 points [60 points behind championship leader, Brad Sweet]

BROWNSBURG, Indiana (March 29, 2021) – Although Mother Nature tried her best to make a mess of the entire weekend, ultimately washing out Friday’s planned visit to US-36 Raceway in Osborn, Missouri, Donny Schatz and the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 15 team managed to get one start in the books and joined the Greatest Show On Dirt for the third annual Jason Johnson Classic at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri.

Despite a shortened distance and “elbows up” conditions, Donny Schatz managed to battle his way to ninth on Saturday night, eventually fading back to 11th to officially advance one position after starting 12th on the $15,000-to-win grid. Originally intended to go 41 laps, the Jason Johnson Classic main event was eventually cut to 30, due in whole to a weather-induced racing surface.

The ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion secured his place on the A-Main starting grid after finishing fourth during his respective heat race, kicking-off his evening by qualifying ninth quick among the 31-car field.

Despite missing the top-ten, only the second occasion in 2021, the Fargo, North Dakota-native remains tied for fourth in the World of Outlaws standings, just 60 points shy of Brad Sweet’s championship lead.

Donny Schatz will continue his quest toward an 11th World of Outlaws title, as well as a 300th World of Outlaws victory, during a two-day stop at the always-competitive Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri, on Friday and Saturday, April 2-3. The two-day showcase will feature back-to-back programs awarding $10,000 each.

Dietrich advances 21 positions in two days during visits to Williams Grove and Port Royal

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (March 29, 2021) – In terms of final results, it was a successful weekend for Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing, but the path toward success was long and strenuous.

Dietrich, driver of the Gary Kauffman Racing, Weikert’s Livestock, Sandoe’s Fruit Market, Pace Performance, Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts, Bowhunters Superstore, Drop Of Ink Tattoo, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, Self Made, Graver’s Garage, No. 48 sprint car, earned a top-ten and podium, respectively, during his weekend in Pennsylvania Posse Country, kicking things off on Friday night with an impressive rally from 24th to finish ninth at Williams Grove Speedway.

Illustrious on paper, Dietrich was actually forced to buy his main event starting position after failing to transfer through the evening’s consolation race. Brake malfunctions were the culprit, but last minute negotiations with the consolation’s sixth-place finisher allowed Dietrich to make the 25-lap finale.

A much smoother path toward success on Saturday night at the Port Royal Speedway “Speed Palace,” Dietrich turned a fifth row starting position into a podium result, ultimately climbing six spots to finish third, keeping a fast-closing Logan Wagner at bay in the final circuits.

“Double-D” was scheduled to visit Selinsgrove Speedway for “March Madness” action on Sunday, March 28, but Mother Nature ruined plans before they could begin.

“That just goes to show why working with a team that refuses to give up is so important,” Danny Dietrich said, who owns one victory in Central Pennsylvania thus far in 2021. “We couldn’t catch a break on Friday. Every time we thought things may go our way, they didn’t. But, we were able to turn a rough situation into something good and I’m proud we were able to do that. We’ll do our best to start fresh on Friday and try to get through the program a little smoother.”

Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing will continue their 2021 campaign with an Easter weekend double, first returning to the famed Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, followed by a Saturday destination that has yet to be determined. Like weeks prior, Williams Grove Speedway will award a $5,500 payday.

Zearfoss 14th at Lake Ozark; Pevely double next on WoO agenda

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

JONESTOWN, Pa. (March 29, 2021) – Despite Brock Zearfoss’ Saturday night visit to Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri, ending just short of his fourth top-ten with the Greatest Show On Dirt, the Jonestown, Pennsylvania-native displayed an ample amount of perseverance, eventually translating a Last Chance Showdown victory into a 14th-place outcome during the third running of the annual Jason Johnson Classic. Without saying, Zearfoss’ overall potential was cut short right from the start, as the 41-lap program was eventually sliced down to 30 circuits, the result of weather-induced track conditions.

Zearfoss, driver of the Brock Zearfoss Racing, Moose’s LZ Bar & Grill, Heavy Equipment, Loaders & Parts Inc., C&D Rigging Inc., BAPS Auto Paints & Supply, Meckley’s Limestone Products, Berkebile Oil Company, Klick Lewis Cars, J.P. Adamsky Trucking, X-1 Race Cars, No. 3Z sprint car, was forced to compete in the evening’s Last Chance Showdown after an eighth-place score during his respective heat race. The “Jonestown Jet” went on to win the consolation program which allowed the World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year contender to line up 19th on the grid.

“I can’t thank my team enough for their hard work. It’s not easy being out here on the road. They keep digging and it makes my job a lot easier,” Brock Zearfoss said, who owns one World of Outlaws victory over the course of his career. “Having the opportunity to race with the best in the world every single night is what I’ve been working toward my entire career. To be out here doing it is pretty unbelievable. All we can do is try our best to keep learning and progress up the ladder. It’s not going to be easy, but we love the challenge.”

Brock Zearfoss and Brock Zearfoss Racing will continue their quest toward World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year honors with a two-day stop on the highbanks of Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri, on Friday and Saturday, April 2-3. The two-day invasion will feature two, full shows awarding $10,000 each.

VINCENTOWN, N.J. (March 29, 2021) – Justin Whittall and JW Motorsports are working hard to find their stride in Pennsylvania Posse Country, and although recent results may suggest otherwise – highlighting last weekend with a 17th-place score at the tough-to-tame Williams Grove Speedway – Whittall is finding many underlying positives in his results and remains excited for some of the year’s biggest events.

Sides Focuses on Positive Following Elbows-Up Type of Night at Jason Johnson Classic

Inside Line Promotions - ELDON, Mo. (March 29, 2021) - Jason Sides deems last Saturday's outing at the Jason Johnson Classic a success.

Although Sides finished 19th in the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series main event at Lake Ozark Speedway, he passed the fourth-most cars in the A Main and most importantly was able to roll the car into the trailer at the end of the night.

"That was just about getting through there because it was a motocross track and I forgot my dirt bike," he quipped.

Sides was conservative throughout the night in which he qualified 19 th quickest, placed ninth in a heat race and advanced from seventh to fifth in the Last Chance Showdown to transfer into the back of the main event. Sides tried to stay out of the way and out of the ruts during the A Main, which was shortened from 41 laps to 30 laps because of the track conditions.

"I'm not a spring chicken so I wasn't getting up in it," he said. "We thought about just making a couple of laps and pulling in, but then we figured some cars would crash. We added about 10 more gallons of fuel and just stayed on the bottom to get what we could."

It capped a weekend that began with a rain out on Friday at U.S. 36 Raceway near Osborn, Mo.

Up next is a two-day show at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., this Friday and Saturday. Sides captured a World of Outlaws win at the track in 2012.

"It's always good being able to run twice at the same track," he said. "We've had some really good runs there and have won so that makes you look forward to returning."

Dominic Scelzi Sweeps Kings of Thunder Weekend at Thunderbowl

Inside Line Promotions - TULARE, Calif. (March 29, 2021) - Dominic Scelzi is certainly off to the best start of his sprint car career following a weekend sweep of the Kings of Thunder 360 Sprint Cars doubleheader at Thunderbowl Raceway.

Scelzi won the feature on Friday and Saturday to give him four triumphs in his last seven races. The four wins mark Scelzi's most in a season since recording eight triumphs in 83 races in 2019.

"It's a weird point in time for me," he said. "From life outside of racing to work to racing, I'm in a really good place. I almost feel like that's why things are going so smooth at the track. We've really started to come into ourselves and we've seen it from the first race of the year."

Last weekend started on Friday with Scelzi qualifying third quickest out of the 29 entrants. He then advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race, which locked him into the dash.

"We went out late in qualifying," he said. "The cushion was really big. We did exactly what we needed to do and qualified really strong. We were right there on top of first and second. We had good speed and made good laps. They reworked the track and it got hooked up and rough, which is the type of track where we struggle the most. We decided to test for the heat race. We tried some stuff and it didn't work the way we wanted. We drew the No. 1 for the dash and the moves we made weren't the right decision so we made some big changes for the main event."

Scelzi placed second in the dash to line up on the outside of the front row for the 30-lap main event.

"We took the lead going into turn one and didn't look back," he said. "We were way better than what we were through the first three quarters of the night. I ran the bottom on both ends. When I got into traffic I moved up. I could go through the holes and above the holes. For me it was a big win because when tracks are like that I struggle. We were able to use the night as a test and we gained on it. That's a testament to where we're at as a team."

Scelzi was locked into Saturday's dash thanks to the podium performance on Friday. He drew the No. 5 for the dash and gained a position to finish fourth, putting him on the outside of the second row for the 30-lap feature.

"The track was a complete 180 from Friday and was slick to the fence," he said. "It had a small cushion against the fence and you could pretty much run around the infield wall. I felt pretty good on both ends when we hot lapped. For the dash the track was really slick. I felt good and we had the second fastest lap in the dash. I felt confident going into the main event.

"They reworked the track a little bit. We knew the moisture would be around for five or six laps and then the track would go slick. We stayed pretty tight. We got the lead on Lap 3 and then I was up to the fence. It was as wide as that place can get and about as good as you'll see that track. With about 12 laps to go we were in heavy traffic. The cars were all over the track in front of me. (D.J.) Netto slid me in turns three and four and I turned it under him to stay in the lead. A couple of laps later we had a restart and I slid myself into turn one. He got a run on me and slid me into turn three, but I was able to turn underneath him again and we never looked back."

Scelzi will be off this weekend before returning to action on April 10 at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif.

Henderson and Sandvig Overcome Adversity to Score Two Top 15s in Central Pennsylvania Visit

Inside Line Promotions - PORT ROYAL, Pa. (March 29, 2021) - Justin Henderson and car owner Mike Sandvig opened their 2021 racing season with two nights of racing in Central Pennsylvania last weekend.

Henderson picked up a 14th-place finish at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg on Friday and a 12th-place result on Saturday at Port Royal Speedway. The duo planned to race on Sunday at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, but rain cancelled the racing activities.

"We kind of fought through adversity all weekend and we had to hurry and change motors with a crew of folks who came on board just for the trip," Henderson said. "Ultimately I was really proud of our team and everything we overcame, and we can't be that upset about the results."

Henderson began the weekend on Friday at 'The Grove' and he finished where he started - third - in a heat race. That earned the 11th place starting spot for the A Main and with only a handful of laps remaining Henderson was running comfortably in ninth. However, he sustained a mechanical problem with one lap to go and slipped to 14th in the final results.

"We were hoping for different track conditions to maybe learn a bit more for later this year, but ultimately it was just tough to pass on," he said. "We had good speed in the heat race, but track position is key on a track like that and it really hurt us."

Mechanical woes plagued the team on Saturday at Port Royal Speedway during group time trials. Henderson's one completed lap was good enough for 16 th overall out of 30 cars in attendance with a time of 15.783 seconds.

The team changed engines before Henderson advanced two positions in a heat race to finish fifth, which locked the team into the feature in the 14 th starting spot. The feature was riddled early with cautions and Henderson advanced as high as eighth. However, a blinding sun came out after the halfway point and the track conditions changed drastically, relegating Henderson to a 12th-place finish at the completion of the 25-lap event.

"I think we had a top-10 car for Port Royal, but ultimately we probably needed those extra laps in time trials to really be set up to succeed," he said. "We missed the setup a bit in the feature, but I know exactly what to do for the next time when we come back. With everything we went through with the engine change, we were not as aggressive setup-wise as we needed to be, but ultimately it was a good learning night."

While Henderson and Sandvig were hoping for better results, the ability to get early season laps under their belt against stout competition will serve as beneficial in what will be a busy 2021 racing season for the team. They also were able to put together a notebook and get a baseline as the team plans to return to Central Pennsylvania later this season.

"To be able to get some competitive racing laps and to just get out and see people I know was a great trip in itself," Henderson said. "I think I got about 100 hugs and I have so many friends in Pennsylvania that just took us in and made us feel like home and it made it worthwhile. We got a lot of notes for the fall and I'm really looking forward to getting back to Pennsylvania later this year."

LIKE IT SIDEWAYS: NASCAR fans discover new passion for dirt racing, look to World of Outlaws and DIRTcar The World of Outlaws Bristol Bash will be April 8-10 and the World of Outlaws Throwdown will be April 22-24

By Nick Graziano

BRISTOL, TN – March 29, 2021 – Brothers Joseph (6) and Andrew (16) Cochrane wanted one thing for their birthdays: to go to Bristol Motor Speedway for NASCAR’s dirt race. On their way out of the event, they had one more request: to see the World of Outlaws at Bristol in April.

“We’re actually trying to plan to see if we can make it work in our schedule next month to come here,” said Jeff Cochrane, the brothers' father.

On April 8-10 the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Models and DIRTcar UMP Modifieds will take their turn around the dirt half-mile for the World of Outlaws Bristol Bash. Then, on April 22-24, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars and Super DIRTcar Series will put on their own high-octane show during the World of Outlaws Bristol Throwdown.

The NASCAR Truck Series and Cup Series events on Monday brought dirt racing to a fan base unfamiliar with a brown track and terms like “tacky” or “cushion.” However, for fans young and old, this new style of racing, to them, brought a new level of excitement.

Not only were Jeff Cochrane’s sons impressed by the dirt racing action, he was too. They’d been to Bristol several times, but the NASCAR Truck Series and Cup Series events on Monday were their first trip to a dirt race. Jeff grew up near Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN – where the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series will visit Sept. 4 – but never made it out to see a race. Now, he’s hooked.

“It’s awesome,” Jeff Cochrane said. “We like watching the cars getting loose in the turns. This is amazing.

“It was pretty neat how [Matt Crafton] was trying to go up to the top side, the high line, just getting completely sideways outside the other cars. That was awesome.”

The wide-eyed expression and head nodding from Andrew proved the love for dirt racing was contagious.

Patrick Hunter, from Greenville, SC, has been a Sprint Car fan throughout his life, following the likes of Lou Blaney – father of former NASCAR driver and 1995 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series champion Dave Blaney. That fandom led to his support of NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Blaney – Lou’s grandson and Dave’s son. That brought him to Bristol with his two daughters, Gia (10) and Lucy (12).

For the two girls, the events were their first time at a dirt race. And like the Cochranes, they couldn’t get enough of it. While shy with words, Gia said she enjoyed the atmosphere of the event and Lucy said she’d like to attend more dirt races.

When their dad mentioned the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars would be at the track April 22-24 – for the World of Outlaws Throwdown with the Super DIRTcar Series – their eyes lit up.

“We might be coming back,” Patrick Hunter said.

The drivers, even those with little to no experience on it, gained a new passion for the form of racing. Joey Logano, who became the first NASCAR winner on dirt in 50 years on Monday, ran a DIRTcar UMP Modified during the 50th DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in February to prepare for Bristol. But what was meant to just be a warm-up, became a fun experience after racing from 19th to third in his first time out in the car. Logano credited that experience as being key to his Bristol dirt win.

"We've done a lot of work in the dirt department with my buddy Ryan Flores and my car chief Jerry Kelley doing a good job with the modified and just making laps and learning where I was going," Logano said. "A lot of that helped."

To Eric Shanz, from Cincinnati, OH, who’s also been to Bristol before, nothing has compared to the dirt race.

“The hype is not enough. It should’ve been higher, man,” Shanz said. “That was f***ing awesome. It’s just crazy. Everyone going around the turns just going crazy. Every time I turned, I was like, ‘Wreck! Wreck! Wreck! But they held on to it. It was nuts, man.”

He too expressed his excitement to see drivers like Kyle Larson, Stewart Friesen and Matt Crafton take more laps around the half-mile track during the World of Outlaws Bristol Bash and World of Outlaws Throwdown.

“Dirt is awesome,” he said.

CHASE GUTSHALL RACES TO 1ST SUPER SPORTSMAN WIN OF 2021

YORK HAVEN, Pa.: Chase Gutshall made a pretty big chassis change over the Winter and couldn’t wait to kick off the Super Sportsman season at BAPS Motor Speedway.

That’s the case anytime you make a major product change. You are anxious to see how it affects your car and overall on-track performance.

So far, so good for Gutshall and his new Sledgecraft Chassis. At least it looked that way during Saturday’s 25-Lap BAPS Super Sportsman feature in which the 20-year-old driver recorded the impressive victory.

“To start off the bat and have success like we did with this new chassis, it’s pretty good going into the season as a driver and for our crew guys,” Gutshall said. “We started with this new chassis, and it likes everything we do so far.

“I’m pretty happy with it and excited. I can move to the top of the track, the bottom of the track, and run through the middle. I can put that car anywhere, and it sticks. So, we are pretty pumped for the season.”

In other action at the speedway, Shaun Miller captured the Creekside Auto Sales 358 Late Model main event. Other winners were Michael Goodwin in the Superior Homes Extreme Stock feature, Kody Sites in the Street Stock division, and Roland Brown in Classic Car competition.

As for Gutshall, he had a tough march to the front in the Sportsman A-Main. He lined up ninth on the grid behind heavy hitters like Russ Mitten, Opening Day winner Frankie Herr, and track champion Kenny Edkin.

The first lap was marred by a flip in Turn 2 that involved John Edkin. He was OK. Daniel John, Timmie Barrick, and Nate Young went to the pit area for work.

Mitten grabbed the top spot from his pole starting spot and led the first three circuits. Kenny Edkin, who started eighth, charged to the front and disposed of Mitten to pace the field on Lap 4.

Edkin continued to lead Mitten on the ninth circuit. Meanwhile, Gutshall was surging forward, passing Herr and Scott Dellinger to take third. One lap later, he shot by Mitten coming out of Turn 4 to take second.

“We had that wreck right away, and I kind of got the feel for the car in Turn 1 and 2,” Gutshall said. “We had that open red, and my crew chief came down and asked if I needed anything adjusted, and did I get a feel for the car?

“I told him right then and there, ‘I think we have a good car and don’t touch it.’ When I went into Turn 1 and 2 before we had the red flag, it stuck, and the car drove off pretty good.”

Gutshall chased down Edkin over the next 10 laps and was within two car-lengths by the time Lap 17 was scored. On the next circuit, Gutshall looked to make a move for the lead through the third and fourth corner.

There was no epic battle. Edkin slowed coming out of the fourth turn and went pit side, and Gutshall took over the top spot.

“Right before he broke, I felt like I was gaining on him a good bit,” Gutshall said. “Then, he moved down to the bottom, and I was starting to reel him in even more.

“Coming out of Turn 4, that’s when he slowed down and broke. I tapped him, and once I got past him and got in clean air, the car felt really good. I was just pacing myself to not mess up, run smooth, and last to the checker.”

No problem, there. Gutshall went unchallenged the rest of the way and took the win by 1.236 seconds. Frankie Herr rebounded from a penalty for jumping a start to finish second, with Mitten claiming third.

Timmie Barrick came back from an early spin to finish eighth and earn MAC Tools Hard Charger honors. Jay Fannasy, Gutshall, and Kenny Edkin were heat winners for the 23-car field.

In the 358 Late Model main, Shaun Miller lined up third and followed Wayne Pfeil for the first 16 circuits. The tandem of Miller and Seventh-start Chase Billet blew past the leader on Lap 17.

Billet, who won the Opening Day feature, was close to Miller, but he couldn’t make a move for the win. Miller, son of defending track champion Troy Miller, took the win by 1.066 seconds at the finish.

Pfeil slipped to third ahead of Randy Stoudt and Chuck Schutz. Billet and Shaun Miller were heat winners for the 18-car field.

The Extreme Stock feature was an entertaining affair that had four different leaders over the 20-lap distance. Hunter Fulton led the first eight laps from the pole before Chase Rehbein took over for three laps.

Austin Hogue stormed from fifth to the lead on Lap 12. Goodwin, who started seventh, made his way to the front and passed Hogue on Lap 15 before leading the rest of the way.

Kody Sites passed Ryan Smith on Lap 4 to capture the Street Stock main event. Roland Brown led the last six laps of the non-stop 20-lap Classic Car feature.
