Big Game Motorsports and Gravel Post Seventh-Place Showing at Jason Johnson Classic

Inside Line Promotions - ELDON, Mo. (March 30, 2021) - David Gravel guided Big Game Motorsports to its 10th top-10 result of the season last Saturday during the Jason Johnson Classic.

A rough track made for a challenging night from the start as Gravel qualified 12th quickest.

"I missed it a little in qualifying and messed up in turn three," he said. "That put us behind a little in the heat race. We gained a spot in the heat to start the feature ninth, which wasn't too bad because it was a rough track."

Advancing from fourth to third place in a heat race locked Gravel into a starting position on the inside of the fifth row for the A Main, which was shortened from 41 laps to 30 laps because of track conditions.

"We weren't bad and weren't good," he said. "It wasn't the typical Lake Ozark we're used to, but that's one of the things about dirt racing. The first three or four laps there were two or three guys a corner biking up on two wheels. It's one of those things you balance out the risk versus reward. There were a couple of close calls. We were happy to roll out with a top 10 and move onto the next one."

Gravel's seventh-place result has him tied for the second-most top 10s this season during World of Outlaws competition with eight in nine races.

The World of Outlaws weekend opener at U.S. 36 Raceway near Osborn, Mo., rained out on Friday.

The team remains in Missouri this weekend when Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely hosts a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday. Gravel was victorious at the track in 2016.

"Pevely is going to be exciting," he said. "The one time we went there last year during the COVID-19 stuff it was track record speed. It'll be interesting to see what type of track we'll get. We're there twice this weekend and two more times later in the season. You have to be good at Pevely to want to contend in the points. I feel like I've been pretty solid there."
