Ryan Smith races onto the podium at Williams Grove

Allport, PA
The BJD Motorsports team headed to the historic WIlliams Grove Speedway to open their 2022 season on March 25. 27 410 sprint cars signed into the speedway. The Western Mountain/Wingstop Restaurant/Red Robin 6 Timed fourth quickest in overall hot laps. Ryan drew pill #13 which placed the 6 on the outside pole in the third heat race. Ryan raced to a second-place finish in the heat race that put him in the redraw for starting positions in the 25-lap feature. Ryan drew the 3 in the redraw and started the feature from the inside of the second row. The 6 fell to fourth place on the initial start and Ryan raced his way back to third on lap 10. Several cautions slowed the race and at lap 15 he found himself in fifth place. Ryan continued to run consistent laps and raced his way back to a third-place podium finish on lap 25. Ryan commented that “A podium finish to get the season started is awesome for me and everyone at BJD. The guys worked their tails off over the off season and it showed on night one. I’m ready to get the season rolling.” This week the team heads to the Speed Palace, Port Royal Speedway on Saturday. Ryan Smith Racing gear is available at his website.

World of Outlaws Sprints, Late Models building toward historic Bristol Bash Kyle Larson has entered as the first driver to pull the Bristol Bash double by running with the Sprint Cars and Late Models

In less than a month, the two premier divisions in dirt racing will team up for the biggest Bash of the year at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series and World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series return to the dirt-covered Last Great Colosseum on April 28-30 for three nights of warp-speed action with a more than $400,000 overall purse.

Thursday will be a practice night for both Series while Friday and Saturday’s shows will be highlighted by $25,000-to-win Features for the Late Models and Sprint Cars. And before the cars hit the track, fans and drivers can celebrate the return of the event together Wednesday night at the Michael Waltrip Brewing Co. for the World of Outlaws Bristol Bash kickoff party.

Defending NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson is entered to attempt something that’s never been done before – outduel the Outlaws in a Sprint Car and Late Model on the same weekend, and potentially the same day. The Elk Grove, CA driver has entered to race the #57 Sprint Car for Silva Motorsports and the #6 Late Model for K&L Rumley Enterprises.

However, a field of the best Sprint Car and Late Model drivers in the world will stand in his way to make their own history and hoist the iconic Bristol Motor Speedway Gladiator Sword trophy.

Three-time and defending Sprint Car champion Brad Sweet – Larson’s brother-in-law – will be on the hunt to park his Kasey Kahne Racing #49 car in Victory Lane for the first time at the track. While on his quest for a fourth consecutive title, the Grass Valley, CA driver has stated he’s holding nothing back to pick up as many wins as he can this year.

Joining him with the same mentality are 2019 Knoxville Nationals champion David Gravel – who swept the World of Outlaws Sprint Car events at Bristol last year – Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing driver Sheldon Haudenschild, rising-star Carson Macedo, 10-time Series champion and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing driver Donny Schatz – who won at Bristol in 2001 – and many more.

“This is just such an iconic place everyone always talks about,” Gravel said after winning the Series’ return to the track in 20 years last season.

For the CASE Late Models, another all-star field of contenders are planning to bring their 800-plus horsepower machines to the half-mile speedway. Four-time Series champion Josh Richards, of Shinnston, WV, returns to defend his inaugural win, along with fellow four-time Series champion Brandon Sheppard, who is chasing Richards for a seat atop the mountain. They’re both on the hunt for their fifth title and Richards is currently only a win ahead of Sheppard for the most Series victories all-time.

They’ll be joined by Newport, TN’s Jimmy Owens, current Series points leader Dennis Erb Jr., of Carpentersville, IL, Pennsylvania’s Max Blair – one of the top Rookie of the Year contenders with a win already this season – Bristol winners Devin Moran, Jonathan Davenport and Chris Madden, and more.

Entries can be found on MyRacePass and will be updated as they come in.

For tickets to the World of Outlaws Bristol Bash, Thursday-Saturday, April 28-30, visit BristolMotorSpeedway.com.

If you can’t make it to the event, you can watch all the action live on DIRTVision – either online or by downloading the DIRTVision App.

Kaleb Johnson Set to Start Busy Season Saturday at I-80 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (March 31, 2022) - Kaleb Johnson will kick off an ambitious 2022 schedule this Saturday at I-80 Speedway.

Johnson plans on splitting his time between 410ci and 360ci winged sprint car competition with this weekend's show at the dirt oval in Greenwood, Neb., offering his first opportunity of the season in a 360 sprint car.

"Within the past year we haven't had the greatest luck there, but your first race each year is probably the one you're the most excited for because you've waited six months to get back in the car," he said. "I feel we're pretty prepared for this year so we're excited to get it started."

Johnson is pleased to return a great contingent of marketing partners with the addition of Cressman Sanitation, David Kramer Drywall and AB Custom Construction. Additionally, the team acquired a 410 engine on the heels of Johnson making his 410 sprint car debut last year.

"We're going to be doing quite a bit of both classes this year," he said. "We'll run weekly at Knoxville Raceway (in Knoxville, Iowa) in the 360 and at Huset's Speedway (in Brandon, S.D.) in the 410. I feel like running 410s will get me the most prepared and that's where I need the most seat time.

"My first goal is to get a top three in points at Knoxville. I feel we've improved so much there. It comes down to no DNFs and not making many mistakes. Other main goals are to make the 360 Knoxville Nationals A Main and get a top 10 in points at Huset's. That will be tough because of the quality of competition. If we can finish the races and not have to fix too much stuff I think we'll be all right."

Saturday's event at I-80 Speedway presents the lone opportunity for Johnson to hit the track prior to the Knoxville Raceway season opener on April 16. The opening night for Huset's Speedway is May 8.

BRAD'S BACK: Sweet Ends Dry Spell, Claims First Win of 2022 at Vado Speedway Park The Big Cat Earns Milestone 75th Career World of Outlaws Sprint Car Victory

VADO, NM - March 29, 2022 - They say that patience is a virtue, but Brad Sweet was tired of waiting.

While the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series made its long-awaited debut at New Mexico's Vado Speedway Park on Tuesday night, The Big Cat went ahead and made his long-awaited return to victory lane with the Series.

Sweet led all 30 laps at the Vado 3/8-mile but had to fend off a fury of challenges from Sheldon Haudenschildthroughout lap traffic to win the inaugural race at the state-of-the-art facility.

Amazingly enough, it had been 26 races and seven months since the Kasey Kahne Racing, NAPA Auto Parts #49 last won a World of Outlaws race at Skagit (WA) Speedway on September 4, 2021. That streak is now snapped and the Grass Valley, CA native hopes this is the momentum his team needs to really begin the run for a fourth consecutive Series championship.

"Yeah, it has felt like forever," Sweet said on the length of his victory lane absence. "We just got stuck points racing last year and didn't take those risks you need to win against these guys. As far as this year though, we've been fast all season and knocking on the door of getting this win. I'm happy for my guys. Eric [Prutzman], Joe [Mooney], and Andrew [Bowman] have been working hard, now we're gonna get them the wins they deserve. This is the time to be getting better."

The added significance in Tuesday's triumph is that Sweet reached a milestone 75th career World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win. He's now only nine wins away from tying Stevie Smith (84) for a spot inside the coveted top-10 on the All-Time Win List.

After qualifying sixth and finishing second in his Heat, Sweet used a perfect DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash to put the #49 in prime position to capitalize come showtime. From there, he survived some brief hiccups in lap traffic to make Vado Speedway Park the 42nd track he's won at, while New Mexico became the 21st state he's won in.

"These are honestly some of the hardest ones to win," Sweet added. "Track position is just so key and lap traffic is tough when the track gets like this. It was hard to time the runs, and there was one time when Sheldon came across but luckily enough I was ready. I really didn't want to catch any lappers, I just wanted clean air to control my own mistakes. You have to use your mind as much as you possibly can out there."

Sheldon Haudenschild briefly led for a split second on Lap 7, but never could control the top spot enough to wrangle it away from Sweet. The Wooster, OH native finished only 0.768-seconds behind with a second-place effort for the Stenhouse Jr. / Marshall Racing, NOS Energy Drink #17.

"I definitely felt like we were a little quicker in open track," Sheldon commented on the battle with Sweet. "I just didn't have enough speed to clear the slider I needed with how the track was. California was a struggle for us, but [Kyle] Ripper, Stephen [Hamm-Reilly], and Jakob [Weaver] have been working hard to get us back on track. It's amazing how much something as simple as qualifying good and getting in the Dash can help with that extra track time to figure out the car."

For the first time since his season-opening win on February 10, Donny Schatz returned to the podium on Tuesday night. The 10-time Series champion finished up third in the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, Ford Performance, Carquest Auto Parts #15 after taking a few shots at Sheldon for the second spot.

"These short tracks have not been our strong suit, but we've changed so many things that we're getting it figured out," Schatz mentioned. "I felt better as the race went on and thought we were catching those guys but didn't get there quick enough to be able to capitalize on their mistakes. It's a positive result, though, we'll keep working hard."

Closing out the top-five at Vado Speedway Park was new track record holder James McFadden in fourth-place aboard the Roth Motorsports #83, and David Gravel with a fifth-place run that brings the Big Game Motorsports #2 back to second in the standings.

Rounding out the top-10 on Tuesday night was Spencer Bayston in the CJB Motorsports #5, Carson Macedo in the Jason Johnson Racing #41, Cory Eliason in the Rudeen Racing #26, Logan Schuchart in the Shark Racing #1S, and Giovanni Scelzi in the KCP Racing #18.

NOS NOTEBOOK (Vado Speedway Park, 3/29/22)
Tuesday's Feature at Vado Speedway Park was only the second of 11 races this season that featured no lead changes.

Brad Sweet's 75th career World of Outlaws win leaves him only nine away from tying Stevie Smith (84) for 10th on the All-Time Win List. Tuesday's win snapped a 26-race dry spell for Sweet, his longest over the last four years.

James McFadden established a new track record by circling Vado's 3/8-mile in 12.215 seconds aboard the Roth Motorsports #83. It's the fourth career Slick Woodys QuickTime Award for the Alice Springs, NT, AUS native.

NOS Energy Drink Heat Race wins went to James McFadden (24th career), Donny Schatz (492nd career), and Cory Eliason (15th career). Brad Sweet topped the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash to earn his second pole position of the season.

Logan Calderwood (Goodyear, AZ), Lorne Wofford (Alamogordo, NM), Nick Parker (Tucson, AZ), and Brett Becker (Odessa, TX) all qualified for their first World of Outlaws Feature of the season on Tuesday night.

UP NEXT (Fri) - Another 10-hour haul will lead the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series to its only stop in Oklahoma this Friday, April 1 at Lawton Speedway. On Saturday, April 2, Devil's Bowl Speedway offers a $20,000 payday in the DuraMAX/Drydene Texas Outlaw Nationals.

Hagar Hustles to ASCS National Tour Victory at I-30 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 29, 2022) - Derek Hagar captured his sixth career Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour triumph last Friday at I-30 Speedway during the opening night of the Hammer Hill Showdown.

Hagar bested nearly 50 drivers during the event, which he began by qualifying third quickest in his group. A heat race win from second placed him fifth in the starting lineup for the 25-lap main event.

"We drew the No. 1 pill and typically that's the worst thing to do with passing points," he said. "Now with ASCS there's group qualifying so being able to qualify decent and getting on the front row of a heat race, then winning it to get the passing points helped set us up for a good starting spot in the feature."

Hagar dropped outside the top five early before he found a rhythm. As the drivers in front of him fought for the extreme bottom of the track, Hagar adjusted his line to run one lane up in turns one and two. He also entered a lane higher in turns three and four before diamonding the exit of the corner.

"We fell back to sixth or seventh and it took me a couple of laps to maneuver toward the middle," he said. "Then we started picking cars off slowly. We had a couple of cautions that played into our favor and we were able to capitalize on the restarts. The track wasn't rubbered up, but had enough grip where you could float the middle and keep speed up without sliding up the track. I was able to momentum around the outside."

A couple of timely cautions bunched up the field as well and Hagar capitalized on the final one of the race by taking the lead on Lap 18. He pulled away to win by more than one and a half seconds.

"We had a restart with seven or eight laps to go and we were running second to Landon Britt," he said. "I pulled the wing back a little bit and floated through the middle. I was able to get around him and hang on for the win.

"Like I mentioned last week, it's always hard to get that first win out of the way and once you do they seem to come a little easier. We went into last weekend knowing we had a chance to win. We just needed to have the cards play out right and they did. Also, it was the first race we had Builtwiser Wings on the car so it was pretty special to win it in front of our home crowd."

Saturday's event finale began with Hagar timing in seventh quickest in his group. A run from seventh to fourth in a heat race advanced him to 11 th in overall points to lock directly into the main event.

"We didn't qualify well and were outside the heat race inversion, but we were able to pass three cars in the heat race to get ourselves locked into the feature," he said. "I was too free in qualifying. The track had more moisture in it than Friday. We were a couple of tenths slower than we needed to be, but we raced well in the heat race."

Hagar capped the night by picking up a pair of positions during the feature to finish ninth.

"We were good and better than where we finished, but as the race went on my car went away," he said. "I don't know if it was a tire issue or we just missed the setup a little bit. And every time I'd get a good run someone would block it and it'd kill my momentum. It didn't work out the way I had hoped, but we finished the race in one piece and got a top 10."

Hagar plans to join the ASCS National Tour this Friday and Saturday at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss., during the Capital City Clash. He has a four-race winning streak at the track with three trips to Victory Lane occurring in 2019 and the first during the streak in 2018.

"We get around that place pretty good," he said. "It's one of our favorite tracks and we tend to do well there. I'm looking forward to going back to that place and hopefully competing for another win or two."

MIDWESTERN DIRT: Missouri, Illinois & Indiana Highlight April Slate Upcoming Races at US-36, Lake Ozark, I-55, Tri-City & Tri-State for World of Outlaws

OSBORN, MO - March 29, 2022 - Just like the song, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series races from sea to shining sea and everywhere in between.

The Greatest Show on Dirt has already seen Florida's ocean, California's coast, the southwestern desert, and now the Midwest awaits. Following this weekend in Oklahoma and Texas, a three-week swing through Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana headline the heart of April's 10-race schedule.

US-36 Raceway in Osborn, MO on April 8 (BUY TICKETS)
Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, MO on April 9 (BUY TICKETS)
Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, MO on April 15-16 (BUY TICKETS)
Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL on April 22 (BUY TICKETS)
Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN on April 23 (EVENT INFO)
It all starts with a mega Missouri doubleheader on April 8-9, a weekend that truly features the best of both worlds for Sprint Car fanatics. Alongside the winged warriors of the World of Outlaws is the newly-formed Xtreme Outlaw Sprint Cars presented by Low-E Insulation, a non-wing Series that will create a can't miss weekend at US-36 and Lake Ozark.

The most recent appearance at US-36's 1/4-mile bullring offered the second-closest finish (0.118 seconds) over the last 100 races with Sheldon Haudenschild topping Brad Sweet in an instant classic during the fall of 2020. The Osborn, MO facility is one of six tracks to have seen a nine-second lap (9.84) with the World of Outlaws.

On Saturday, April 9, the Jason Johnson Classic returns to Lake Ozark Speedway as the Series remembers The Ragin' Cajun. Defending winners include Brad Sweet, James McFadden, and David Gravel, but all eyes will be on Carson Macedo attempting to win it aboard the Jason Johnson Racing, Albaugh #41.

After that, Pevely's always-exciting Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 hosts the first two of four scheduled trips to the 1/4-mile bullring on April 15-16. The Kasey Kahne Racing, NAPA Auto Parts #49 of Sweet swept both spring races last year, and the Stenhouse Jr. / Marshall Racing, NOS Energy Drink #17 of Haudenschild swept the Ironman 55 last summer.

The Friday, April 22 slot brings The Greatest Show on Dirt back to Tri-City Speedway for the first time in 14 years. 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz won the most recent appearance at the Granite City, IL 3/8-mile in 2008, which was his fifth of 200+ victories driving the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing #15.

One of the most unpredictable venues on the schedule returns on Saturday, April 23 with Tri-State Speedway taking center stage. The Haubstadt, IN 1/4-mile paper clip has produced five first-time winners across 42 races, including notables Parker Price-Miller and Carson Short in recent years. Among full-timers, Carson Macedo and David Gravel - both with two wins - are the only ones to conquer the unique facility.

With another week until the next swing starts, Grass Valley, CA's Brad Sweet currently leads the early-season standings in pursuit of his fourth consecutive World of Outlaws championship. Closely behind him is Carson Macedo (-20), David Gravel (-22), Sheldon Haudenschild (-46), and Giovanni Scelzi (-88), with each of those four claiming two victories apiece as of now.

Inside Line Promotions - PERRIS, Calif. (March 29, 2022) - Jason Sides posted his best result of the season last Saturday during the final race of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series spring swing through California.

"The biggest thing was not letting California shut us out as we finally made it into a feature," he quipped. "Without making a show you don't get any laps and you need the laps to get going. It's real valuable because without them you're falling behind everyone who is out there learning throughout the 30 laps of a feature so you can keep improving your car."

Sides qualified 24th quickest before advancing from eighth to seventh in a heat race at Perris Auto Speedway. He placed fourth in the Last Chance Showdown to transfer into the back of the main event. The night concluded with Sides gaining a trio of positions in the feature to end 19 th.

"By getting that one spot in the heat race it helped and started us in a transfer spot in the Last Chance Showdown," he said. "That way you could just race where you were. Then in the feature we were racing with the guys around us. We'd pass a few cars and then lose a couple. One of the restarts didn't go well and then we sputtered on a late restart because we were low on fuel, but it was a fun race to be out there."

It was a step forward to cap a frustrating three weeks in California when qualifying woes buried Sides nearly every night, including last Friday at Bakersfield Speedway in Bakersfield. He timed in 26th and ran ninth in both a heat race and the Last Chance Showdown.

Sides is venturing toward the Midwest this week with a trio of races on deck. He will visit Vado Speedway Park in Vado, N.M., on Tuesday during the first-ever World of Outlaws race at the track. Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., hosts an event on Friday before Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, showcases the Duramax Drydene Texas Outlaw Nationals on Saturday.

"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "I'm excited to see a new track in Vado. Last year we had a decent run at Lawton and I've always liked Devil's Bowl. Hopefully it's a successful week."

Sides battled for a top 10 at both Lawton Speedway and Devil's Bowl Speedway last season before finishing 11th and 13th, respectively.

Big Game Motorsports and Gravel Battle Back to Earn World of Outlaws Win at Perris Auto Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - PERRIS, Calif. (March 29, 2022) - David Gravel rebounded in a big way last Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway, where the Big Game Motorsports driver recorded his second victory of the season.

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win came at a much-needed moment following two straight frustrating outings, including the team's first DNF of the season on Friday at Bakersfield Speedway in Bakersfield, Calif.

"We had two bad nights in a row on different weekends," he said. "That's just the way it goes sometimes. To bounce back and win the night after we destroy a race car shows how resilient everybody is. It's great to get back on track and show them that we're supposed to be up front."

The team worked throughout the day on Saturday to rebuild the race car after a promising night on Friday ended early. Gravel set quick time during qualifying, won a heat race and placed second in the dash to line up on the outside of the front row in the A Main. He was running second early in the race when he was caught up in a multiple-car crash in turns three and four.

"When it's out of your hands it's out of your hands," he said. "We caught up to the back of the field and that stuff happens. That's part of sprint car racing. I guess Sheldon (Haudenschild) cut a right front tire and got into the wall. (Spencer) Bayston was pretty much into the corner and couldn't get slowed down. The track was really, really slick. Once you turn the wheels and get it sideways to slow it down you start sliding. You can't really control it and we slid into Sheldon and then Rico (Abreu), who was behind me, slid into me, which is when it did the most damage."

The team replaced the front end among many other parts and Gravel returned to the track, advancing a few positions before something in the steering broke in turn two in the closing laps. Gravel veered into the wall and his night ended early for the first time this season.

Following a long haul to Perris Auto Speedway and a busy day of preparing a new car the team continued to fine tune as the racing program began Saturday evening.

"The guys worked hard," he said. "They had to put together a car that was about halfway built and they were able to get the job done. Going to a little bigger track was a good thing as it's what we're more normal to. It was kind of a thrash, but it went smooth."

Gravel timed in second quickest and he won a heat race to advance into the dash. A run from fifth to second placed him on the outside of the front row for the A Main for the second straight race.

"When you start on the front row you definitely get excited and feel like you have a shot to win the race," he said. "That was a great feeling. The night started flowing."

Gravel briefly took the lead on Lap 8 before falling back to second on the ensuing lap. However, he regained the top spot five laps later and maintained the lead until a competitor executed a slide job in turns three and four on Lap 28. Gravel battled back with a slide job of his own into turns one and two to reclaim the position and he held on during a green-white-checkered restart for his second victory of the season and 71 st career with the World of Outlaws.

"It was a battle nearly the whole event," he said. "The bottom was the dominant groove early, but the outside came into play. It was one of those deals you had to be on your toes and pay attention to where the fastest groove was and it was changing every five to 10 laps. The top came into play in turns one and two. I got slid and I was like, 'All right, the pace is picking up.' I felt like I needed to slide him the next corner. I was able to clear him and I had to step up into the seat the rest of the race."

A three-race week is on tap beginning on Tuesday at Vado Speedway Park in Vado, N.M., where the World of Outlaws makes its debut. Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., hosts a race on Friday before the weekend wraps up on Saturday at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the Duramax Drydene Texas Outlaw Nationals.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Three Races in New Mexico, Oklahoma & Texas for World of Outlaws This Week Series Debut at Vado, NM & $20,000-to-win at Devil's Bowl Highlights Next Swing

VADO, NM - March 28, 2022 - The return of California's spring swing offered many unforgettable moments over the last three weeks, but now The Greatest Show on Dirt is ready to head east.

A three-race, three-state journey across five nights will give the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series its busiest week of the young season. Along the way are brand new tracks, familiar places, and historical sites where big money is on the line.

It all starts tomorrow Tuesday, March 29 with the first mid-week race of the year at Vado Speedway Park. The newly-created state-of-the-art facility is hosting the Series for the first time on the 3/8-mile and thus bringing the World of Outlaws back to New Mexico for the first time since 2008.

A 10-hour haul to Oklahoma will lead the Series to its first and only appearance in the Sooner State this year, coming on Friday, April 1 at Lawton Speedway. Carson Macedo and Jason Johnson Racing enter as defending winners at the track, topping a race they dominated last fall with the largest margin of victory (5.5 seconds) all season.

The week wraps up on Saturday, April 2 with a $20,000 payday available at the DuraMAX/Drydene Texas Outlaw Nationals at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX. All eyes at the birthplace of the World of Outlaws will be on Logan Schuchart and Shark Racing, who are chasing a fourth-consecutive Ted Johnson Memorial trophy.

BUY VADO TICKETS (TUES)
BUY LAWTON TICKETS (FRI)
BUY DEVIL'S BOWL TICKETS (SAT)
Here's a preview of what to watch for this week on DIRTVision.

NO NOTES: One of the most intriguing aspects of a track hosting the World of Outlaws for the first time ever is that the best sprint car drivers and teams in the world are heading into the night blind. There are no previous races to rely on, no notes to look back at, and no experience to pull from. It's simply who can adapt and figure out Vado's 3/8-mile the fastest.

While none of the full-time teams have ever attended Vado, 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz has actually raced at the New Mexico oval in his Dirt Late Model. He participated in the Wild West Shootout earlier this year in January, collecting a pair of top-1o finishes in his personally-owned #15. This time around, he'll be in the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing #15 going for this second World of Outlaws win of the season. The Fargo, ND native actually won the most recent race in New Mexico, too, topping the now-closed Hollywood Hills Speedway in 2008.

FOUR-PEAT: The top storyline entering Saturday's DuraMAX/Drydene Texas Outlaw Nationals is without a doubt Logan Schuchart and Shark Racing, who coincidentally fly the DuraMAX Oil and Drydene Performance Products colors on the #1S.

The Hanover, PA native is going for his fourth straight win at the Mesquite, TX 1/2-mile, the second-longest win streak at the track behind Sammy Swindell's five-in-a-row spell from 1986-87. He's won from a myriad of places in the lineup at Devil's Bowl, topping an April 2019 show from third, the 2020 fall race from fifth, and last year's thriller from eighth.

After starting the year with an average finish of 10.3 and only two top-five finishes, Devil's Bowl couldn't come at a better time for Schuchart and Shark Racing. His next victory would not only put him in the W column in 2022, but it would be his 31st all-time and move him beyond his grandfather and car owner, Bobby Allen.

LAWTON LANDSLIDE: When the World of Outlaws raced at Lawton Speedway last fall it was the biggest beating of the year with Carson Macedo & Jason Johnson Racing winning by 5.573-seconds. That same pairing returns to the Oklahoma 1/4-mile this Friday night with hopes of becoming the first back-to-back winners at the track since Steve Kinser did it in 1982-83.

Another win for the Lemoore, CA native would bring him his Series-best third on the season and propel him to 20 career World of Outlaws wins at the age of 25-years-old.

CONSISTENCY IS KEY: Throughout Brad Sweet's nine years as a full-time Outlaw, The Big Cat had only gone winless in the first 10 races once (2018), until it happened again this season. Don't be fooled, though, the Kasey Kahne Racing, NAPA Auto Parts #49 team is still as consistent as ever, proven by the updated point standings with the three-time and defending champion back on top.

The Grass Valley, CA native is averaging an impressive finish of 3.7 over the last nine events with a Series-best five podiums, eight top-fives, and nine top-10s to his credit. Sweet will have three extra chances this week to park the #49 in victory lane with his best shot arguably coming during Devil's Bowl $20,000 Feature on Saturday at a track he's won at before.

TALKING A BIG GAME: After their unfortunate DNF while racing for the win on Friday at Bakersfield, David Gravelconfidently said he believes Cody Jacobs and Big Game Motorsports are providing the fastest car on tour. He backed that up less than 24 hours later by topping Perris Auto Speedway for his second win of the season.

Falling from the top to third in the early-season standings, the Watertown, CT native is extra motivated to rattle off the wins that he believes Tod Quiring's #2 car deserves. The 71-time World of Outlaws winner will be vying for his first-ever win at Vado, Lawton & Devil's Bowl alike this week.

GASS MONKEY: Of the three states on the agenda this week, only Oklahoma serves as a home state race for one of the 15 full-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series competitors. In fact, it'll be the first time that Noah Gass of Mounds, OK has raced in his home state since joining full-time to compete for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award.

The 18-year-old enters a new week following a season-best outing of 18th-place at Bakersfield, where he climbed as high as 13th at one point. It's been a grueling learning curve with new tracks around every corner for the freshest face on tour and crew members Cody Cordell & Robby McQuinn, but the #20G continues to show signs of improvement with each passing night.

NON-PLATINUM PROWESS: Although they're not full-time in 2022 chasing the World of Outlaws championship, Giovanni Scelzi and KCP Racing have certainly shown they're capable of doing so in the future if they choose to. Through the opening 10 nights of a scheduled 60+ races with the Series, Scelzi currently ranks fifth in the standings and is among the leaders in many statistical categories.

The Fresno, CA native picked up two wins at Tulare and Bakersfield during the three-week west coast swing to his home state of California and will follow the Series back east aboard the Aspen Aire #18. Since joining forces with crew chief Dylan Buswell, the 20-year-old star has stepped up his game with three wins in the Series' last 15 races.

LAST CHANCE: Each race this week represents the final opportunity for fans in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas to see The Greatest Show on Dirt in their home states. Barring any last-minute additions to the schedule, Vado (NM), Lawton (OK), and Devil's Bowl (TX) will be the last appearances in each state for the 2022 season.

Mallett Battles Back During Challenging Weekend to Start Season at Hammer Hill Showdown

Inside Line Promotions - LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 28, 2022) - Jordon Mallett's season got off to an ill start last weekend.

Mallett missed his scheduled season opener on Friday at I-30 Speedway because of an illness that got markedly worse throughout the day.

"I felt a little off on Friday morning and figured I might not have slept good," he said. "By later in the morning I got worse and broke out with a fever. Everything was spinning. I did not feel safe so about 2 o'clock they took me to an urgent care clinic. They had me go home, monitor the situation and then said go to the emergency room if it gets worse.

"To say it was a disappointment is an understatement. I worked so hard in the offseason to come out of the gate swinging. Fortunately I felt a little better on Saturday and we were able to go to the track."

Mallett kicked off the 2022 season a day late as he tackled the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour's Hammer Hill Showdown finale at I-30 Speedway on Saturday. He qualified fourth quickest in his group and placed third in a heat race to end up 16th in overall points, locking into the main event in the 16th starting position out of the nearly 50 drivers.

"Being under the weather on Saturday it was good to punch straight into the show with a good car count," he said. "I went off the old notes of what I thought the track would do during that 30-lap feature. I swung for one way and just missed it a little. I can pin it back to making two wrong calls. I was too gear bound and I just missed it. I felt we had a good enough car to run the top or the bottom. I kept expecting the track to come to us, but it never did."

Mallett battled around 15th for most of the race before ending 17th.

"It was a skating rink from top to bottom," he said. "To be honest, my mind wasn't in the best place after missing Friday and still being under the weather and I just made the wrong call. We were disappointed with not being able to claw our way forward. I would be ripping the curb on one end of the track. For everything I could make up there a few laps later I'd get shuffled back and lose what I had gained. It was an ebb and flow of gaining some spots and losing some throughout the race."

Mallett will be joining the ASCS National Tour this weekend at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss., for the Capital City Clash.

"I know we've ran on the podium there a few times and had some shots at winning races there," he said. "I think the track needs to come to us to have a successful weekend. It can sometimes be a flip of the coin. We do really well on nights when it gets racy. During the nights where it has one groove predominately better than the other we haven't shined as well. However, it's normally a technical kind of track and we enjoy racing there."

Williamson Garners Two Top 10s During Hammer Hill Showdown at I-30 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 28, 2022) - Garet Williamson generated back-to-back top-10 performances last weekend during the Hammer Hill Showdown hosted by I-30 Speedway to climb into seventh place in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings.

The Bryant Paver Motorsports driver finished ninth on Friday and seventh on Saturday during an event that drew nearly 50 drivers each night.

"I think we're definitely clicking and getting into a groove," he said. "The car is getting faster. I'm doing better. I think we're moving in the right direction right now."

The action began on Friday with Williamson qualifying fourth quickest in his group. He then won a heat race from the pole position to rank 11 th in points, locking himself into the 11th starting position for the 25-lap main event.

"The A Main was follow the leader around the bottom," he said. "Everybody was stacking up around the bottom. On restarts you could try to grab spots through the middle and tuck back into line, but it was really tough to pass."

Williamson picked up a pair of positions to earn his first top 10 of the season with the ASCS National Tour.

The event concluded on Saturday when Williamson timed in third quickest in his group. A heat race triumph from the outside of the front row ranked Williamson fifth in points. He lined up on the inside of the third row for the feature.

"On Saturday we were running with Aaron (Reutzel) to the front," he said. "He got the lead and I was throwing a slider on third when I got into the wall and lost two spots from there. We knocked the Jacob's Ladder out of it and it was a fight after that. I was able to maintain in the top five. Then on the last restart I went to run the bottom to try to pass a guy. Someone got a big run on us and we went to throwing sliders. We ended up losing a couple of spots to finish seventh.

"Overall, we got faster at the track and we won our heat race each night, which is key. We were definitely a fast car and improved so it was a good weekend."

Next up for Williamson will be his debut at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss., this Friday and Saturday when the track hosts the Capital City Clash.

"I think we can be good there," he said. "We have a good base setup and we seem to roll around fine on new tracks. I've watched some videos of the track. It looks like it gets slick with a big curb on the fence. That's what we normally roll good at so I'm looking forward to it."

The ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion drove ahead six positions at the 1/3-mile speed plant, poking his nose within the top-five before slugging it out with Roth Motorsports’ James McFadden on the final circuit.

Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, Advance Auto Parts, Carquest, Ford Motor Company, Ford Performance, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Digital Ally, Absolute Automation and Security, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts, No. 15 sprint car, tried his best to better his outcome the following evening at Perris Auto Speedway but finished tenth, starting the SoCal Showdown in the exact same position. The Fargo, North Dakota, native qualified for feature action with a fourth-place finish during heat race action, doing so Friday as well as Saturday.

The back-to-back top-tens allowed Schatz to bump his season total to seven in ten starts, now seventh in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship standings with only two points separating himself from James McFadden, who is sixth in the standings, and 12 points from Gio Scelzi, who is fifth in the standings.

Bayston caps California swing with top-ten at Perris Auto; New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas visits next

2022 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: Tenth | 1252 points [148 points behind championship leader, Brad Sweet]

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

CARLISLE, Pa. (March 28, 2022) – It was a wild final weekend in California for Spencer Bayston and CJB Motorsports, and although the team was denied a potential victory on Friday as the result of getting caught up in an incident while leading at Bakersfield Speedway, the Lebanon, Indiana, native rebounded big on Saturday and scored a top-ten, finishing eighth at Perris Auto Speedway after starting in the exact same position. Bayston kicked-off the SoCal Showdown program with a third-place score during his respective heat race.

A heartbreak, nonetheless, Bayston, driver of the CJB Motorsports, Signing Day Sports, JRC Transportation, Nyce Crete and Landis, Ecynbro Trucking, C&S Lawn and Landscape, Kistler Engines, The Dunn Group, Highlands’ Power Sports, High Performance Lubricants, FK Rod Ends, Allstar Performance, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, No. 5 sprint car, led the first eight circuits on Friday at Bakersfield before the aforementioned incident occurred, utilizing the pole position to blast ahead of the field.

Unfortunately, Bayston was not the only driver caught up in the lap nine incident, as David Gravel and Rico Abreu, who were running second and third, respectively, were also involved in the tangle. Bayston would eventually return to action, but had to settle for 16th in the running order.

“I didn’t see how it started, but I was already committed and it was just too late,” said Bayston regarding Friday’s hiccup while leading. “You always think you could’ve done something different, but I don’t know if we could have avoided that. It’s just a bummer. One of these front-row starting spots is gonna pay off. We’re doing our part, that win is coming soon.

“I can’t thank this team enough for their hard work during this California swing. We’ll begin our trip back east and work for big results starting with Vado tomorrow night.”

ON DECK:

After a stop in the desert, Zearfoss, driver of the Moose’s LZ Bar & Grill, Heavy Equipment, Loaders & Parts Inc., C&D Rigging Inc., Klick Lewis Cars, J.P. “We had some tough results in California, but the experience we gained and the notes we gathered will serve very important when we have the chance to return to those tracks,” Zearfoss explained, a former winner with the Greatest Show On Dirt at Williams Grove Speedway. “Hats off to my team for their hard work and determination these last few weeks. It’s not easy being out on the hard and that far from home for so long, but their focus never stopped. We’ll begin our trip east and aim for big results beginning Tuesday in New Mexico.”
