Thiel makes Jason Johnson Classic start at Lake Ozark; I-55 doubleheader on the horizon

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (April 11, 2022) – Despite Mother Nature claiming the first night of his two-race weekend schedule, the “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel and Team 73 made the most of their weekend trip to the Show-Me State and ultimately earned a feature starting spot with the Greatest Show On Dirt at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri.

Honoring the late Jason Johnson in the annual Jason Johnson Classic, Thiel, driver of the Gibbsville Cheese, Walkers Game Ear, Professional Plating Inc, Scott Thiel Builders, Stealth Cam, Muddy Outdoors, Complete Water Inc, No. 73 sprint car, was just one of nearly 40 entries signed in for the $15,000-to-win program, eventually earning his feature starting spot with a fifth-place run in his respective heat race. The Sheboygan, Wisconsin, native would go on to finish 20th after starting in the exact same position.

Track conditions proved tricky for the Jason Johnson Classic A-Main starters, as a slick-turned-abrasive surface made passing very strenuous.

“We keep plugging away and good things will happen. I can’t thank my team enough for their support in these road trips. Mother Nature hasn’t cut us a lot of slack lately, but once the weather breaks and we can get some full weekends in, I think we’ll be able to build some rhythm,” Thiel said, who plans to continue his season with another World of Outlaws doubleheader this weekend. “The bottom line is, we wouldn’t be able to do any of this without the help from all of our great partners. They make the wheels turn, for sure.”

ON DECK:
The “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel and Team 73 will continue their 2022 campaign with another doubleheader in the Show-Me State, set to invade Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri, on Friday and Saturday, April 15-16. A warm-up for the annual 55-lap/$20,000-to-win Ironman 55, the two-day visit to greater St. Louis will feature two, full programs and will cap all World of Outlaws action in the Show-Me State until the Series returns for the aforementioned Ironman in early August.
